Bahrain Day 3: Hamilton quickest as Red Bull and Renault troubles continue :
Lewis Hamilton marked his return to the Mercedes cockpit on day three of Bahrain Formula 1 pres-eason testing by going faster than anyone so far this week, and driving home the fact that Mercedes power has the edge for now with both McLaren and Williams faring well on the day. Lap times continued to tumble with Hamilton’s best of 1.34.263 well over half a second up on the previous day’s best, on the Soft Pirelli tyres as opposed to the Super-soft used by Kevin Magnussen for his best time on Wednesday. Hamilton was also quickest with the Medium compounds, doing 1:34s with those bolted on. A “small hydraulic problem” on the W05 cost the Briton track time, but he nevertheless managed 67 tours of the Sakhir circuit. The Silver Arrows appear to be top of the pecking order at this very early stage of the season. Having said that, McLaren are also performing at the sharp end with Jenson Button amassing a whopping 103 laps in the apparently bullet proof MP4-29, ending the day 0.713 of a second down on former teammate Hamilton, and a mere 0.066 down on his current teammate’s best of 24 hours earlier. Felipe Massa, who shared the Williams FW36 with Valterri Bottas, set the third best time of the day during the afternoon stint, managing 60 laps in the process but was 2.8 seconds down on Hamilton’s best. His teammate Bottas did 55 laps but none of them were timed. Fourth fastest, with 96 laps to his credit, was Esteban Gutierrez in the Sauber C33, ahead of the works Ferrari with Kimi Raikkonen on duty for the first time this week. The Finn was sixth fastest, his day compromised with telemetry issues which resulted in a relatively subdued day compared to teammate Alonso who was among the fastest during his two days on duty. Raikkonen only managed 44 laps during the course of the day. Splitting the Ferarri powered duo was Sergio Perez in the Force India, who was fifth fastest and notched up 57 laps on his first day at the wheel of the VJM07 this week. Rookie Daniil Kvyat was the most successful of the Renault powered gang, racking up 57 laps and the seventh best time, which was 4.7 seconds off the top pace.The troubles at Lotus continued with Pastor Maldonado having his first official run for the team. Things started well, before problems struck. As a result he only managed 26 laps in the E22. On the bright side the Venezuelan was the first Renault powered driver to dip below 100 seconds around the grand prix venue on the day. World Champions Red Bull were forced to wrap up their day early – an hour or so before the end of the day, they wheeled the RB10 into the garage and brought a premature end to Daniel Ricciardo’s first outing in Bahrain. He was eighth fastest, with 28 laps on the chart and 6.5 seconds down on the day’s best lap time. Caterham continued to rack up impressive mileage, compared to their fellow Renault powered outfits, with rookie Marcus Ericsson managing 98 laps in the CT05, albeit 7.8 seconds off the pace. It was a disappointing day for Max Chilton in the Ferrari powered Marussia. The team decided after four laps decided to change the engine, and were not seen out on track again during the course of the day. The final day of the first of two F1 pre-season tests in Bahrain takes place tomorrow [Saturday].

Bahrain F1 test: Kevin Magnussen puts McLaren on top on day two :
Kevin Magnussen topped the second day of Bahrain Formula 1 testing for McLaren, as Mercedes-engined cars led the way again.
The Dane produced a late flourish on Pirelli's super-soft tyre to knock Force India's Nico Hulkenberg from the top spot by a whopping 1.5 seconds and set the fastest time of the week so far. Fernando Alonso continued Ferrari's solid start to the test with the third fastest time, racking up nearly 100 laps in the F14 T and splitting the Mercedes-engined hordes with a soft-tyre run in the late stages.
The Spaniard wound up less than a tenth adrift of the Force India, which topped Wednesday's running in Hulkenberg's hands.
Nico Rosberg took over Mercedes driving duties from team-mate Lewis Hamilton and caused two red flags in the morning. He recovered to end up fourth quickest, almost half a second further back. Mercedes customer team Williams bounced back from a difficult first day with a fuel system issue to set the fifth fastest time with Valtteri Bottas at the wheel in place of Felipe Massa. The Finn completed 116 laps in the FW36, comfortably more than any other driver, and enjoyed spells at the top of the times during the day.The beleaguered Red Bull squad had a more productive second day in Bahrain. World champion Sebastian Vettel completed 59 laps, more than twice the number the Milton Keynes squad managed across the previous five days of testing. The German was on for a top six time until Kamui Kobayashi made a late improvement on Pirelli's soft tyre. Kobayashi endured a difficult start after taking over the Caterham from reserve driver Robin Frijns, but overcame telemetry problems to complete over 60 laps and break the 1m40s barrier. Red Bull sister squad Toro Rosso also enjoyed a much better second day in Bahrain, after suffering a multitude of issues with its car yesterday. Jean-Eric Vergne managed nearly 60 laps in the STR9, compared with Daniil Kvyat's five circuits on day one. Vergne set the eighth fastest time, ahead of Esteban Gutierrez's Sauber and Romain Grosjean's Lotus, which completed just 18 laps due to a variety of installation issues with the 'twin-tusk' E22. Max Chilton's Marussia ended up at the bottom of the timesheet. A fuel system problem restricted Chilton to just 17 laps, after an IT issue on day one limited team-mate Jules Bianchi to just three laps of running.

Force India's Nico Hulkenberg posted the fastest time on the first day of the second pre-season test in Bahrain on Wednesday.
The German posted a time of 1.36.880 on the Sakhir track, 0.999s faster than Ferrari's Fernando Alonso in second.
Lewis Hamilton was another couple of tenths further behind in third, with Kevin Magnusen in fourth, 1.415 seconds slower than Hulkenberg's time. Sebastian Vettel was in fifth, but his best time was almost two seconds slower than the Dane's best, the reigning World Champion posting a 1:40.224. Adrian's Sutil's Sauber was sixth, a couple of tenths slower than Vettel, while Robin Frijns, Daniel Kvyat and Romain Grosjean were the only others to post a time. In the morning session, Magnussen set the pace, beating the Hamilton's initial time by two tenths of a second. At that point, Mercedes-powered cars locked out the top three places after Hulkenberg posted the third best time. Grosjean handed the Lotus E22 its public debut, but completed only seven laps before as software and battery problems put an end to his day. Furthermore, the Frenchman was out-paced by the Caterham of Frijns, who had a much longer run and completed 26 laps. The problems continued for the Renault-powered cars, though. The Torro Rosso suffered an oil leak, which prevented new signing Kvyat from recording a lap in the morning, while the Red Bull kept its RB10 behind closed doors. When Vettel eventually did come onto the track - with less than an hour remaining in the afternoon session - he was only able to complete 14 laps. Alonso was responsible for the day's first red flag when a ''fuel mix' problem in the pits left the area billowed in smoke. The Ferrari was fourth fastest, though, just over a second faster than Sutil, who also brought out the red flags when he spun at the first turn. Marussia's Jules Bianchi and Felipe Massa in the Williams only completed a couple of installation laps in the morning, which was delayed by 30 minutes when confusion arose over how many marshals was needed at the track.

Jerez F1 test: Massa puts Williams on top on final day :
Felipe Massa went fastest for Williams as the final day of Formula 1 pre-season testing at Jerez ended under red flags.
Kevin Magnussen, who topped the times on day three, ended his second day as a McLaren driver by oversteering into the barriers at Turn 10. Daniil Kvyat's Toro Rosso also stopped out on track at the same corner, and at the same time, on what was the first lap he had attempted since a quick flurry in the opening minutes of the day. It had otherwise been a successful day for McLaren and Magnussen, who - despite a spin at the final chicane - racked up 110 laps. That tally was only bettered by Ferrari's Fernando Alonso, who managed 115 in a trouble-free day for the F14 T. Mercedes' Nico Rosberg had led the way in the morning with 91 laps, but in order to balance mileage handed over to Lewis Hamilton for the afternoon. The Briton turned in 41. That was in stark contrast, once again, to reigning champion Red Bull, which managed just seven laps before calling an early close to a troubled four days. The team finished at the foot of the overall timesheets, and with the least number of laps completed. As it floundered, Mercedes hit the fore with the first full race simulation, conducted by Rosberg in the morning. Hamilton, Alonso and Massa attempted long runs of their own during the afternoon, only to be cut short by a trio of red flags which produced a stunted end to the test. The first was caused when Adrian Sutil lost the rear of his Sauber exiting the chicane and became beached in the gravel. Magnussen's spin at the same corner, and then his off at Turn 10, brought about the other two stoppages. The Dane still ended the final day fourth fastest, behind Massa, Alonso and the impressive Daniel Juncadella, who took over from Nico Hulkenberg at Force India. The Spaniard, who races in the DTM, set overall bests on a number of occasions during the afternoon, and racked up 81 laps for the team. Hamilton wound up fifth fastest overall, three seconds ahead of Marussia's Jules Bianchi. A late run lifted the Frenchman into sixth for the day, and also put Marussia ahead of Red Bull in terms of laptime and lap count for the four days. Sutil edged Rosberg for seventh, with Caterham's Kamui Kobayashi ninth fastest but more than 14 seconds off Massa's best. He did at least manage 54 laps, significantly more than Kvyat or Daniel Ricciardo, who propped up the timesheets.

Jerez day 3 : Magnussen takes over at the top :
After Jenson Button was quickest on day two, the Brit's new team-mate, rookie Kevin Magnussen, topped the third day of pre-season testing at Jerez. Button was also quickest earlier in the session, his 1m25.030s the benchmark for much of the day before Magnussen set the pace with a 1m23.276s late in the running - further evidence that the new McLaren MP4-29 is performing far better that its predecessor in the early stages. Magnussen and Button got through 52 and 40 laps respectively. Day three at Jerez was again marked by a number of red flags - and precious little sign of the Red Bull - with the likes of Ferrari and Mercedes once more joining McLaren at the top of the timesheets. Felipe Massa also took to the track for Williams and impressively set the second fastest time of the day behind Magnussen - a 1m23.700s - while getting through 47 laps. Lewis Hamilton completed an impressive 62 laps - the most of any driver - setting the third fastest lap time of 1m23.952s, with Button's earlier mark remaining good enough for fourth. Notably, the top four drivers were all Mercedes powered. Fernando Alonso also enjoyed a productive day for Ferrari, running through 58 laps and setting the fifth fastest time of 1m25.495s. Red flags caused by Alonso, Force India's Nico Hulkenberg, Adrian Sutil's Sauber, Jean-Eric Vergne's Toro Rosso and Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo once again punctuated the action throughout the morning and afternoon. Sebastian Vettel only managed 11 laps across two days of testing on Tuesday and Wednesday, but new recruit Ricciardo managed even less, completing just three laps before Red Bull packed it on once again. Force India also struggled, though Hulkenberg was able to get through 17 laps and set the sixth fastest time. The biggest problems were once again reserved for the Renault teams , with Caterham's Robin Frijns joining Ricciardo on the sidelines for most of the day. Only Vergne managed to set a lap time in a Renault-powered car, though the Toro Rosso also caused two red flags while getting through 34 laps. Sutil managed to complete 30 laps, though like Vergne his pace was way off the frontrunners. Marussia's new MR03 finally made its first appearance later in the day, with Max Chilton taking the wheel and completing a successful installation lap - if not a flying lap.

Jerez F1 test ,day 2 : Jenson Button and McLaren fastest, Renault in trouble :
Jenson Button's McLaren topped the second day of pre-season Formula 1 testing at Jerez, as the Mercedes-engined teams demonstrated an early advantage in 2014. Button topped the official wet-weather running in the morning, despite the MP4-29 not having appeared at all on day one in Spain . The track dried after midday and drivers switched to slick rubber. Button then swapped fastest laps with the Force India of former team-mate Sergio Perez. The McLaren was on top when Perez stopped at Turn 1 and brought out the day's second red flag, the first one having occurred when Sauber's Esteban Gutierrez spun into the gravel at Turn 5.
After the smoking Force India had been removed, Nico Rosberg's Mercedes, day one pacesetter Kimi Raikkonen (Ferrari), and the Williams of Valtteri Bottas all usurped Button's times. Each had their time on top of the timesheets, but after a third red flag in the penultimate hour - caused by Marcus Ericsson's Caterham stopping - Button recorded a 1m24.165s on Pirelli's medium tyre.
Raikkonen ended up second with a 1m24.812s, while Bottas achieved a 1m25.344s on the special Jerez hard rubber to be third fastest with the FW36. Perhaps more eye-catching, though, was Rosberg's day. Although he ended up only fourth, with a 1m25.588s on the normal Pirelli hard, the Mercedes driver was the only man to complete long runs, twice making it into double figures between pit visits. He was able to lap consistently in the 1m27s and 1m28s on his final long run, which lasted for 24 laps. His ultimate tally of 97 laps compared favourably with pacesetter Button's 43 and Mercedes ended the day by using flow visualisation paint on the rear of the W05. Perez ended up fifth, well clear of Gutierrez, who never bettered 1m33s despite completing over 50 laps. The Renault-engined teams struggled with a suspected energy store issue. Caterham's Ericsson managed the most laps with 11, but his best was nearly 14 seconds slower than Button. Red Bull gave up running altogether after Sebastian Vettel had managed a handful of laps early on, while Toro Rosso failed to make it out at all. The only other team scheduled to run at Jerez, Marussia, did take delivery of its car at the end of the afternoon and hopes to run on day three.
