Re: Formula 1 General Chat & Discussion

News Update !!!!!!!

Kimi Raikkonen's Lotus excluded from qualifying :
Kimi Raikkonen has been excluded from qualifying for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix following a front floor deflection test failure.
Representatives of his Lotus team were summoned to see the race stewards in Abu Dhabi after it was found that Raikkonen's car did not conform to the regulations. The left hand side of the floor was found to deflect more than the permitted 5mm vertically when the testing load was applied to it. Investigations by Lotus found that the issue had been caused by a broken floor due to kerb damage, but the stewards did not accept the explanation. He has been excluded from qualifying but will be allowed to start from the back of the grid.
FIA Rejects TEAM Explanation :
A statement issued by the FIA said: "The stewards heard the explanation of the team that the relevant part broke upon contact with a kerb. "However, the stewards did not accept that the incident referred to constituted an accident, or excused failing the relevant test."
Gp.news understands that the stewards did not accept the explanation, unlike when there was a similar situation with Romain Grosjean in Hungary, because it did not feel that the incident at Turn 3 where Raikkonen ran off the track and broke the floor should be considered as accidental damage. Kimi Raikkonen F1 2013 . Raikkonen's penalty means that he will not be able to take up his best grid slot since the German Grand Prix in July, having qualified fifth.
"The team respects the stewards' decision," team principal Eric Boullier said. "No advantage was sought or gained in the incident and the relevant part has been replaced. "We've seen what Kimi can do to work through the field when he needs to and we are going all out for the strongest result possible." For the Abu Dhabi weekend Raikkonen has reverted to the shorter wheelbase version of the E21 after feeling that the longer version did not suit his driving style. "We wanted to do it in previous races already but some races we could not," said the Finn. "I was told it was maybe an area where I can get the car like I want, so it has been OK.
"I think it doesn't need to be a big change, but if you get the front end as I like it, then I can drive normally and everything comes more to like it should be. At least here today was not too bad."

Vettel on top as problems delay Grosjean :
Red Bull drivers Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber sailed into the sunset as the posted lap times a full third of a second quicker than their nearest competition in Free Practice 2. Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes), Kimi Raikkonen (Lotus) and Nico Rosberg (Mercedes) rounded out the top five. The ambient air temperature at the start of the 90-minute session was 91 degrees Fahrenheit (33 degrees Celsius), and the track temperature was99 degrees Fahrenheit (37 degrees Celsius.) Raikkonen got things rolling in his Lotus.
FP2 started with the sun still in the sky and ended with the cars running under the lights with the official sunset time coming 41 minutes into the session. Max Chilton clocked the first lap time of FP2 – 1:54.938 – in his Marussia, but moments later Raikkonen sliced over 10 seconds off of that as he posted a 1:44.360. By the 12 minute mark, Sergio Perez had his McLaren at the top of the timing screens with a 1:43.564 and his teammate Jenson Button was second with a time of 1:43.616. There was no lolling about in the pits going on like in FP1 and only four of the 22 drivers were not out on the track. As in FP1, the drivers were using Pirelli's medium compound slick with the white sidewalls. 15 minutes into the session, Sebastian Vettel clocked a 1:43.062 in his Red Bull, and Lewis Hamilton turned a 1:43.355 in his Mercedes. Then Hamilton's teammate Nico Rosberg beat that with a 1:43.101 to claim second place. Romain Grosjean climbed up to third after turning a 1:43.164 in his Lotus, and Mark Webber was now fourth with a 1:43.237 in his Red Bull. 21 minutes into the session, Webber banged in a 1:43.021 to make it a Red Bull one/two. But that didn't last long as Raikkonen lowered the boom to 1:41.888, a fill 1.133 seconds quicker than Webber. But Raikkonen was on Pirelli's soft compound tires. 26 minutes into the session, Raikkonen had another run on softs and lowered his time to 1:41.726. 27 minutes into the session, other drivers were now trying the softs including Nico Hulkenberg who jumped to second with a 1:42.418 in his Sauber, and Rosberg who was told he should go for a 1.5 second gain. Rosberg improved from 1:43.101 to a 1:41.758 to take second place.
34 minutes into the session, Hamilton took top honors with a time of 1:41.690. 37 minutes into the session, Webber, on softs snatched the lead with a time of 1:41.556. 42 minutes into the session, Vettel finally made a run of the softs set a 1:41.434. The sun had just set, but because the flood lights were already switched on there was no real transition from daylight to night trackside. Vettel lowered his time to 1:41.335 and Webber his to 1:41.490. Midway through FP2 the top six where: Vettel, Webber, Hamilton, Raikkonen Rosberg and Perez. 47 minutes into the session, Chilton spun his Marussia at Turn 2. Grosjean meanwhile went off the track at Turn 20 and radioed that something had broken in his Lotus. Both drivers continued. Most of the teams had done their qualifying simulations right around sunset to match the conditions the cars would face in qualifying proper on Saturday evening.
And now many of the teams began doing long runs to simulate the race conditions of Sunday evening. With 23 minutes remaining, only Grosjean, whose car had broken down, was in the pits. But the Lotus mechanics repaired his car and he was back in action before the end of the session. But with less than 10 minutes to go, Grosjean was back in the pits for more repairs. Everybody else was pounding around on the track. Adrian Sutil had been a busy boy in the Force India, going off at Turns 6, 21 and 20.
The top 10 at the end of FP2 were: Vettel, Webber, Hamilton, Raikkonen, Rosberg, Perez, Button, Fernando Alonso , Hulkenberg and Felipe Massa .

Grosjean leads Hamilton in first practice :
Lotus driver Romain Grosjean topped the times during Free Practice 1 on a sunny afternoon at Abu Dhabi's Yas Marina complex. Lewis Hamilton, fastest for much of the session in his Mercedes, was second. The Red Bull duo of Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber wound up third and fourth ahead of Hamilton's Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg. Three teams had their reserve drivers in their cars for FP1. Rodolofo Gonzales replaced Max Chilton in the Marussia; Heikki Kovalainen took over Guido van der Garde's Caterham; and James Calado was in Adrian Sutil's Force India. The ambient air temperature at the start of the 90-minute session was 93 degrees Fahrenheit (34 degrees Celsius), and the track temperature was113 degrees Fahrenheit (45 degrees Celsius.)
Esteban Gutierrez (Sauber) was the first out on the 21-turn 3.451-mile (5.554-km) Yas Marina circuit. Kimi Raikkonen followed him out, ending any last minute speculation that the Lotus driver was not going to compete in Abu Dhabi after falling out with the team in India. Gutierrez was also the first to have an "off" as he slid wide a Turn 6. After completing an installation lap or two – Raikkonen did three – everybody headed for the garages to have their cars checked over. 15 minutes into the session, nobody was on track and nobody had set a lap time. 20 minutes into the session, nobody was on track and nobody had set a lap time. 21 minutes into the session, Rodolfo headed out. He was testing different floor configurations for Marussia. Would he turn the first flying lap or came back into the pits? He came around and kept going. But he pitted at the end of the lap. 25 minutes into the session, Sergio Perez took to the track in his McLaren. He had the entire circuit to himself as he clocked a 1:48.525. 30 minutes into the session, only Perez had set a time. On his next lap he turned a 1:45.889. 32 minutes into the session, Jenson Button drove out of the McLaren garage. 36 minutes into the session, more drivers were now on track as Perez clocked a 1:45.331. Pirelli's medium compound slick was the tire of choice at for FP1. 38 minutes into the session, Romain Grosjean claimed second place with a lap of 1:45.647 in his Lotus. The drivers at Red Bull (Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel), Mercedes (Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton) and Ferrari (Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa) remained in the pits. Halfway through FP1 the top six were: Perez, Grosjean, Button, Pastor Maldonado (Williams), Valtteri Bottas (Williams), and Gutierrez. Only 11 drivers had set lap times. With 43 minutes remaining in the session, Grosjean topped the times with a 1:45.329. And, finally, the top guns got going. As the final half hour approached, things started to get serious. Vettel was quickest with a 1:44.866, followed by Hamilton with a 1:45.015 and Raikkonen with a 1:45.108. Webber, Paul di Resta (Force India) and Grosjean rounded out the top six. With 29 minutes remaining in the session, Rosberg topped the list with a 1:44.741 but moments later Hamilton beat that with a 1:44.462. With 24 minutes remaining in the session, Hamilton was back out front with a 1:44.433. Webber was now second, Rosberg third, Vettel fourth and Raikkonen fifth. They were the only drivers to get below the 1 minute 45 second barrier. The session wound down without the top five improving on their times.
Then, with 12 minutes remaining in the session, Vettel grabbed second place with a 1:44.641. He improved that to a 1:44.499.
With 5 minutes remaining in the session, Grosjean took fifth with a 1:44.805. With 4 minutes remaining in the session, all 22 drivers were on the track. With 1 minute remaining in the session, Grosjean grabbed first with a 1:44.241. The top 10 in FP1 were: Grosjean, Hamilton, Vettel, Webber, Rosberg, Raikkonen, di Resta, Button, Maldonado and Perez.

Re: Formula 1 General Chat & Discussion

The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix – (17th round of the 2013 Formula 1 World Championship)
Yas Marina circuit – it will be the 5° edition
Only one week after the Indian Grand Prix, the Formula 1 championship continues in Adu Dhabi. Another track designed by Hermann Tilke. Probably the worst circuit of the season, at least in my opinion. The only part that I like is from the curve n. 2 to curve n. 4. The rest is quite boring. There are two long straights linked by tight hairpin bends and a lot of 90 degree corners. Traction is very important due to the stop start nature of the track. Pirelli will bring medium compound (white stripe) and soft compound (yellow stripe), the same combination used last week at Buddh International Circuit. There will be two DRS zones along the main straights.
My congratulations to Vettel: 26 year and four times world champion. 36 wins. 43 pole positions. These numbers speak for themselves. For sure Sebastian drives the best car, but in 2008 at Monza, he won at the wheel of Toro Rosso(engine Ferrari), and during these years Vettel has improved and makes very few mistakes. The Red Bull is the fastest car and Vettel knows how to use it to its full potential.
