JRR Tolkien book Beren and Lúthien published after 100 years ... [Verstecktes Bild - Registrierung notwendig] A new book by Lord of the Rings author JRR Tolkien is going on sale - 100 years after it was first conceived. Beren and Lúthien has been described as a "very personal story" that the Oxford professor thought up after returning from the Battle of the Somme. [Verstecktes Bild - Registrierung notwendig] It was edited by his son Christopher Tolkien and contains versions of a tale that became part of The Silmarillion. The book features illustrations by Alan Lee, who won an Academy Award for his work on Peter Jackson's film trilogy. [Verstecktes Bild - Registrierung notwendig] It is being published on Thursday by HarperCollins on the 10th anniversary of the last Middle Earth book, The Children of Húrin. The story is about the fate of lovers Beren and Lúthien, a mortal man and an immortal elf who together try to steal from the greatest of all evil beings, Melkor. For the new book Christopher Tolkien, now aged 92, has kept his father's story in the original form in which it was written and has also shown how the narrative changed to become part of The Silmarillion. Two very good trilogies
The Lewis Trilogy by Peter May consisting of The Blackhouse,The Lewis Man and The Chessmen : Fin Macleod, a detective inspector in Edinburgh, returns to his birthplace, the Isle of Lewis, in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland. [Verstecktes Bild - Registrierung notwendig] The Bartimaeus Trilogy by Jonathan Stroud consisting of The Amulet of Samarkand, The Golem’s Eye and Ptolemy’s Gate. The main trilogy revolves around the young magician, Nathaniel, the djinni, Bartimaeus, and the non-magical commoner, Kitty Jones. The story is set in an alternate London, where the government is run by magicians, with their slaves, the "demons". The series itself follows Nathaniel as he grows up, and continues to rely on good, old Bartimaeus (5000 years, to be approximate). [Verstecktes Bild - Registrierung notwendig] |

Well, we know everything about Jesus' birth and death, but we know nothing about his childhood and youth. If you like to know more about that, you should read this book:
Christopher Moore 'Lamb: The Gospel According To Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal' [Verstecktes Bild - Registrierung notwendig] One of the funniest books I've ever read. Religion is a very sensitive topic nowadays, but I can assure you that Moore treats his 'Jesus' with respect and I would follow him until the end of the world. |

Some good books i've read lately
Mercy by Jussi Adler-Olsen Carl Mørck used to be one of Copenhagen’s best homicide detectives. Then a hail of bullets destroyed the lives of two fellow cops, and Carl—who didn’t draw his weapon—blames himself. So a promotion is the last thing he expects. But Department Q is a department of one, and Carl’s got only a stack of Copenhagen’s coldest cases for company. His colleagues snicker, but Carl may have the last laugh, because one file keeps nagging at him: a liberal politician vanished five years earlier and is presumed dead. But she isn’t dead … yet. [Verstecktes Bild - Registrierung notwendig] Dark Places by Gillian Flynn Libby Day, the novel's narrator and protagonist, is the sole survivor of a massacre in Kinnakee, Kansas, a fictional rural town. After witnessing the murders of her two sisters and mother, in what appears to be a Satanic cult ritual, she escapes through a window and later testifies in court against her teenage brother. Twenty-five years after the massacre, Libby, in need of money, meets with a group of amateur investigators who believe that her brother is innocent of the crime. With the group's support, she begins an investigation of the events of the massacre, tracking down other witnesses and possible suspects. [Verstecktes Bild - Registrierung notwendig] Paper Towns by John Green Who is the real Margo? Quentin Jacobsen has spent a lifetime loving the magnificently adventurous Margo Roth Spiegelman from afar. So when she cracks open a window and climbs into his life - dressed like a ninja and summoning him for an ingenious campaign of revenge - he follows. After their all-nighter ends and a new day breaks, Q arrives at school to discover that Margo, always an enigma, has now become a mystery. She has disappeared. Q soon learns that there are clues in her disappearance . . . and they are for him. Trailing Margo's disconnected path across the USA, the closer Q gets, the less sure he is of who he is looking for. Due to an unexpected accident, I had a lot of time during the last weeks to discover some authors and their books.
One of them is Patrick Rothfuss and his 'The Kingkiller Chronicle. I've read the 1. and 2. book of his fantasy trilogy - I hope the third book will come soon - and I'm really enthusiastic. [Verstecktes Bild - Registrierung notwendig] [Verstecktes Bild - Registrierung notwendig] Rothfuss is a great storyteller and the life of Kvothe, the 'hero' of this trilogy, fascinates me. |

Flowers for Algernon
Flowers for Algernon is the beloved, classic story of a mentally disabled man whose experimental quest for intelligence mirrors that of Algernon, an extraordinary lab mouse. In poignant diary entries, Charlie tells how a brain operation increases his IQ and changes his life. As the experimental procedure takes effect, Charlie's intelligence expands until it surpasses that of the doctors who engineered his metamorphosis. The experiment seems to be a scientific breakthrough of paramount importance--until Algernon begins his sudden, unexpected deterioration. Will the same happen to Charlie? [Verstecktes Bild - Registrierung notwendig] There's 2 version of the story. The original is a short story while the one I'm currently reading is a longer and much more psychological version. |
