A very good read is The Silver Linings Playbook by Matthew Quick.
The book is narrated through the eyes of Pat Peoples, a former history teacher who has moved back to his childhood home in Collingswood, New Jersey, after spending time in a Baltimore psychiatric hospital. Pat believes he has only been away a few months, but soon realizes it has been years, and struggles to piece together his lost memories and what has become of his wife, Nikki. He has a theory that life is a film created by God and that its "silver lining" will be the end of 'Apart Time' with Nikki. Pat embarks on a plan of self-improvement in order to win Nikki back. At a dinner with his friend Ronnie and his wife Veronica, Pat is introduced to Tiffany, who has also moved back home after losing her job after her husband's death. My fault to have only watched the White Fang 1991 movie, i must read the book now
A very funny classic is Auntie Mame, a 1955 novel by Patrick Dennis (pseudonym of Edward Everett Tanner III May 18, 1921 – November 6, 1976) chronicling the madcap adventures of a boy, Patrick, growing up as the ward of the sister of his dead father. [Verstecktes Bild - Registrierung notwendig] |

Modest wrote:I was on a flea market last weekend and bought some books. The winter is around the corner and I hope that I have enough time to read them. Different Books but every ones are amazing. Alfred Doblin is more serious, about Europe between the two big wars, Germany after the first big war, with a poor society, amazing novel; about London and Twain what can I say?? Always big authors, we must to read both again and again and again. White Fang is more than a classic, I think all the schools must to read when the boys are 15 or 16 years old (boys and girls ), the friendship, the courage, the soul´s adventures...I think it´s one of my first BIG books, I will read more times, for sure. I love the american novels and Twain is him grandfather, I must to say I don´t read it book but I will look in my public library, I write in my note book and I will read. Sorry, I don´t read Leon Uris book but I watched the film and I liked.....my dear friend, thanks so much by your recommendations |

I was on a flea market last weekend and bought some books. The winter is around the corner and I hope that I have enough time to read them.
Mark Twain-'A Tramp abroad'.Twain was one of the smartest, wittiest and most humorous writers ever.I know his novels and short stories and like them a lot and I'm pretty sure that I will also like his travel books. [Verstecktes Bild - Registrierung notwendig] Leon Uris-'Exodus'.Very famous novel,I know the movie, but normally the book is better.I will find out [Verstecktes Bild - Registrierung notwendig] Jack London-'White Fang'.London's adventure novels were part of my youth.Time to read them again. [Verstecktes Bild - Registrierung notwendig] Alfred Döblin-'Berlin Alexanderplatz'.Every German literary critic would say that you must have read this book, because it's one of the most important German novel of the 20th century.Well,I have often problems with literary critics and their recommendations, but every book deserves a chance. [Verstecktes Bild - Registrierung notwendig] Enough for today. If you know one of these novels,I would be glad to read your opinion. |

Aztec is a historical fiction novel by Gary Jennings (September 20, 1928 – February 13, 1999) , a book not to be missed. The book is written as a series of letters from the Bishop of the See of New Spain to King Carlos of Spain containing a transcribed biography of Mixtli (Full named Chicóme-Xochitl Tliléctic Mixtli, "Seven Flower Dark Cloud", in Nahuatl), an elderly Aztec man, by Spanish Catholic monks during the 16th century. The novel portrays the entirety of the life of Mixtli-Dark Cloud, who is asked by Bishop Juan de Zumárraga to tell about his life, since King Carlos I of Spain wants a chronicle of what Aztecs were like.
The novel faithfully recreates a great deal of geographic historical places and history, particularly that involving the conquest of Mexico by Hernán Cortés. Only be careful that the descriptions of human sacrifices, tortures, violence as well as sexual costumes of Aztecs and other tribes of Mexico of that era are very graphic.
