During the Christmas holidays we were visiting our relatives near Lake Constance. For some days it was very warm for this time of year
and I took the dog for long walks in the beautiful landscape.
Often I came to this hill and sat on a bench, overlooking the lake, the mighty Alps towering on the southern horizon and towards the west
the weathered, bizarre shapes of dead volcanos in the Hegau.
On the opposite side of the lake lies the small village of Gaienhofen, where the poet and Nobelprize winner Hermann Hesse once lived.
Besides the bench there is a stone with this poem of his engraved in it, describing the spectacular scenery.
Still gets to me everytime I read it.

Of course I will not even think about translating it, so it is for german-speaking folks only, sorry.
