Losing their bottle

It seems to me that the channel was on a learning curve. They needed to find what, if anything, was tolerated during the daytime. Anything that could not offend even the most prudent of viewers or those that interpretate the 'rules'.

So in the begining there was nothing and girls were reduced to blowing bubbles. Then came the master experiment of the red curtain. Now that could have worked as I am sure the idea behind that was that the viewer knew what was going on but as long as he could not see then he could not be offended. Yet as has happened so often in the past, the channel lets itself down by basic errors of planning and design and had too much light behind the curtain which left it transparent even when a second curtain was used. Like I said before the venetian blind, which they used for just one day before the curtain, had equal potential and could have masked the provocation even better.

Now back in 2008, when there was another AFAIK regulatory issue, they hit on another grand idea. Nudity is fine as long as it is not too obvious and it is disguised as Art. So there was that infamous Sunday afternoon show and the first, extra long Dream Screens / Aka The Decameron when you could see bare breasts before the watershed hour. So if something is worth doing once it is worth doing again and again and we saw these little daytime plays each with their own rule-breaking nudity as if it could be explained as Art then it should be ok. Unfortunately it seems it was not ok.

But what is the definition of nudity if that really is the main issue of the 'rules'. A very simple dictionary definition says "the state of being without clothing or covering of any kind" If we expand on that then the covering of breasts by hands or arms is not being in a state of 'nudity' and thus by definition of 'covering' should, in theory, be allowed. From where I view that is the case but there does appear to be a reluctance to exploit this. There appears to be a reluctance on the part of models most of whom are perfectable capable of doing this. There appears to be a reluctance on the part of camera persons to show any of this if it threatens to happen. And there appears to be a reluctance on the part of directors to encourage this. And, most of all, there appears to be a reluctance to allow the models any provocative clothing if there is a remore chance of some accidental exposure.

The reluctance seems to come from a sense of fear. The fear to offend. The fear to cross that invisible line and lose your job. Of course that fear is a natural reaction but if a dialogue between the rule-maker and the channel can be established so that everyone knows where the line should be drawn we will not have the inconsistency that now happens.

The bottles disappeared from the bar. Now the channel seems to have also lost its own bottle.
