ETV signal/ picture encoder problems

@DB a difficult man to convince
That is O.K and how it should be.

This time the file as is direct transport stream including 14 data breaks.
[hidden link - please register]

My Hotbird recording does not show the blocking either, the signal was D/A/D
converted everything gets flattened (demux remux)

I can´t demux remux realtime on the transport signal, I ´m not that clever.
So the only place I can screw is the HD, it was perfect on the outside broadcast from Shanghai this morning. Same equipment different Astra channel.

I don´t know if you have been watching E2 today, the signal is FOGGY and sometimes rolling like a ship at sea. Examples tomorrow.

Data break examples

Tamara and Alex both fullstrip a couple of days ago.
The same file twice
I´ve tried to give exactly the same content

Astra version
[hidden link - please register]

Hotbird version
[hidden link - please register]

both files mp4 640*480 H264 3:16 mins 35 MB

At the 2 minute point the main picture freezes
The sound continues
The timecode was intact.
and the phone line overlays on Hotbird continued

Has Shamus trashed the hardware ?, I would not be at all surprised

@ETV I hope somebody takes a look at this.

Re: ETV signal/ picture encoder problems

this sort of stuff shouldn't happen at all, so there would be no need to discuss

Re: ETV signal/ picture encoder problems

Hi erik,

maybe you are right.
I´m just commenting on the liveshows as I see them. (unfortunately)
These are not my technical problems, if had them as bad as this, I would have done something about it a lot earlier.

the original post was headed "I´m not too sure where to put this"
I hijacked DB´s Shamus thread and then moved to here, when I was made aware of the fact. perhaps this sort of stuff doesn´t belong anywhere here.

Re: ETV signal/ picture encoder problems

Hi, why don't you post your technical problems under "General discussion-technical questions"? I think they don't relate to "Lifeshows" if I understand this topic correctly.

What about the BoardMod's opinion? Do you agree?

[No, I do not. It was at my own suggestion in a now edited/partially deleted topic that this was the right place. And thanks for the offer but we already have enough mods for the forums]

Re: ETV signal/ picture encoder problems - the double wammy

..... this is the one you´ve all been waiting for. I was going give a mix of yesterdays highlights but this morning was even better. 10 mins of Shamus madness with the vertical hold. There was in fact a great deal more.

WARNING : Not for those with heart or epileptic troubles,
[hidden link - please register]
mp4 320*240 H264 10 mins 50 MB

The only thing that stays where it should is the U2 overlay top right, the rest makes Veni and crew look like amateurs. Invert images, go dark, introduce colour filters, insert 5 transitions simultaneously all very boring stuff compared to this.

ETV you should be very proud of yourselves after this effort.
A real TV station would have stopped proceedings yesterday morning, closed down with a card

"Due to technical difficulties service discontinued, our apologies. Normal service will be resumed as soon as possible" or something similar

are the technicians blissfully unaware of what is going on???

I have suggested this in the past MONITOR your output. (Picture and sound)
pretty easy really. We can do it for you from nearly 2000 km.

Re: ETV signal/ picture encoder problems

@DB to help you sleep at night

when I see that the signal is interrupted, damaged or otherwise, (I have to be present at the elmo TV station of course.) I am able to switch in the back up (receiver scart out - > box -> PVR) up the bitrate and record a better quality signal.

On the morning in question, this was the case.

have you had a sneek peek at E2 today ??

don´t these people ever watch what they produce ??

when I get back in the morning I´ll up a couple of chunks of .....

Shamus finds the Vertical hold, and twiddles all day :-))

sleep well

@Shirtfull nice one. You are confusing me with these two

Polarscan and Mauro use a Wavefrontier with at least 4 LNB. with a 120 cm dish.
into one or two Dreamboxes + PC. Polar records South America - I´ve no idea how.

elmo TV -  80 cm dish 2 LNB 1 Hotbird 1 Astra and two 2nd Hand Mac servers + an Intel iMac gigabit networked.

Elmo's setup may look like the VLA New Mexico

Re: ETV signal/ picture encoder problems

My friend, am I that hard to convince ?

I did see the pause in my recording. In fact the very first shot for this show was a pause so they clearly had a few problems.

But deep down I'm a pretty simple fella and there's one thing that has been puzzling me all day. So much so that I know I will not sleep tonight. Why did you go to the trouble of recording both the Astra and Hotbird streams ?
