Results Finals : Men' s Singles : Novak Djokovic (1) won his 73rd ATP tournament in career (15th Grand Slam and 7th Australian Open), defeating Rafael Nadal (2) 6-3, 6-2, 6-3 after 2h 05' ![]() In first set the world' s N° 1 went immediately 3-0, closing then the set 6-3 after 37'; in second set Nadal managed to stay in the match until 2-2, then he lost two consecutive serves, with Djokovic closing the set 6-2 after 40'; in third set the Serbian champion broke the Spanish champion in third game, he saved the only break-point given in all the match in sixth game and broke again Nadal in ninth game, closing at second Championship-point and winning his 15th Grand Slam in career (only two less than Nadal and 5 less than Federer) and his 7th Australian Open (new record), while Nadal, who reached this final without losing a single set, lost his fourth Australian Open final in career (second against Djokovic). 2019 AUSTRALIAN OPEN - DAY 13 :
Results Finals : Women' s Singles : Naomi Osaka (4) won her third WTA tournament in career (all on hard and second Grand Slam), defeating Petra Kvitova (8) 7-6 (2), 5-7, 6-4 after 2h 27' ![]() No breaks in first set, but Osaka had to save 5 break-points in two games and Kvitova 3 in two games, with 2 set-points on 5-6, so the set was decided by the tie-break, dominated by the Japanese player, who went 5-1 and closed 7-2 after 53'; in second set the Czech player went 2-0, but Osaka managed to break her twice in a row and, on 5-3 she had three consecutive Championship-points, all saved by Kvitova, who then also managed to break twice her opponent, while she was serving for the title on 5-4 and on 5-6, winning the set 7-5 after 56', with Osaka leaving the court for a toilet break in tears; but the Japanese didn' t lose her mind and temper and in third set she broke her opponent in third game and this time she managed to keep the break untill the final 6-4, closing the match at the 5th Championship-point, again in tears, but this time of joy, and winning her second Grand Slam title, after the 2018 US Open; from next Monday Naomi Osaka will also become the new world' s N° 1, the first Asian in the history of WTA, while Kvitova, who from next Monday will be world' s N° 2, lost her first Grand Slam final, after the two won in 2011 & 2014 Wimbledon.
