2015 U.S. OPEN :
Results Finals : Women' s Singles : Flavia Pennetta (26) won her first Grand Slam title in career (11th title overall), defeating Roberta Vinci 7-6 (4), 6-2  In the first all Italian final in a Slam ever, Flavia Pennetta began better, breaking Vinci on 2-2, but she was broken back on 3-4, with Vinci saving two 3-5 balls; first set was decided by the tie-break, in which Pennetta led from the beginning till the end, closing 7-4; Vinci suffered the loss of the set and she lost her serve two consecutive times in the beginning of second set, she managed to recover till 2-4, but Pennetta won the last two games and the match. The 33-year-old Flavia Pennetta, who would raise to N° 8 in the world rankings, said after the match : "This is the way I like to say goodbye to tennis", announcing her retirement at the end of this season. The 32-year-old Roberta Vinci said : "I am really happy for me and for Flavia. It' s always hard to play against a player who you have known for a long time. Do you want an additional fact on the match between UK Johanna Konta and Garbine Muguruza
It is the longest time of one match in this US Open for it's history (in women's draws) This match is a time of 3 hours and 23 minutes I have found a quote of Ms Konta it is "I noticed after the first set it was incredibly long," Konta says. "I had a couple glances of the clock and I'm like, 'Oh, OK. We have been here for a while.'" Let us see how tiring this makes her in the next game. |
