well .... Confused Sad
after some years with Micoud, Diego, Özil & Prinz Harry I must confess that the expectations in Bremen are a little bit different to your offers. Big Grin
and, as said, I think the position 6 is the main problem in the team.

so not sure about a new keeper as Miele made less mistakes than Neuer in this season, a strict NO!!!! to Iron Mike, the midfielder's aren't really for the 6 and one too expensive and one (maybe) too old (yes, yes, I remember Otto and his "es gibt keine jungen und alten Spieler, nur gute und schlechte." Big Grin) and for Volland of course a YES!!! but sadly says half of the Bundesliga yes, too. and Hoppi answers with a simple No! Confused
and about the old greek warrior Ewald ... I think he'll look at his thigh and remember his old battlefield injury and Siegmann. Sad
not to forget that I don't want Ewald. Big Grin

thankfully Werder won't go the typical way and promote the coach of the second team. sadly I cannot give a comment about the players of the second team because after far too many years Wolter I simply gave up to watch the second team some years ago.

PSV Eindhoven captain Mark van Bommel has retired from professional football after a career spanning 21 seasons and which included titles in four countries and a Champions League winners medal.

The 36-year-old midfielder announced his retirement on Sunday after the 3-1 defeat at Twente Enschede in which he was sent off 19 minutes before time for a second bookable offence.

Well, he retires with a red card.At least he did it with style Big Grin

even with Wiese - Naldo & Merte Werder was without a defence but they made usually enough goals.
the last good defence was under Otto with Pannen-Olli as the goalie (and maybe Rune as the Tower of the Defence but not sure about it Confused).
thus it's not a problem of defenders but a problem of a missing defence system under Schaaf.

of course were will be next season without a first class centre backs if Socke leaves, the back wingers are a Werder problem since decades, about Miele nobody is sure but the main problem is the missing 6 since Baumann stopped playing soccer. also Lutscher was no real 6 and this season we've been playing without a real 6 or with a 6 without the necessary class for the 1. Bundesliga.

a lot of work for Eichin and the new coach. Smile

Maybe Werder should commit two or three roughnecks from the 2.division for the next season - Defenders which are so notorious that their opponents are very pale when they see them... Big Grin
No football aesthetes, but their opponent know that it will hurt them if they want to pass.

As then said Valerian Ismael, one of the last great Werder defender:
"Only the ball or the striker should pass me...
But not both together!"

And perhaps the Bremen scouts find indeed times the player also bring some experience and know that the game runs longer than 85 minutes... Smile

Or at least switching their system they usual play these days.Too much concede goals are not always the best tactics.

Maybe the goold old Catenaccio for next season with king Otto can be an option too Big Grin
