Adrian Sutil - Force India - 01:47.249 19. Giedo van der Garde - Caterham - 01:48.931 20. Charles Pic - Caterham - 01:49.037 21. Jules Bianchi - Marussia - 01:49.182 22. Max Chilton - Marussia - 01:49.982 Vettel stays on top in Singapore as Grosjean gains : Sebastian Vettel topped Free Practice 3 in his Red Bull, but unlike the practice sessions on Friday, FP3 was not a Red Bull runaway. Vettel was only 0.191 seconds faster than Lotus driver Romain Grosjean. Nico Rosberg (Mercedes), Mark Webber (Red Bull) and Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) rounded out the top five. They were the only five drivers to get laps times below 1 minute and 45 seconds. Esteban Gutierrez was the first out on the track in his Sauber . The ambient air temperature at the start of the 60-minute session was 86 degrees Fahrenheit (30 degrees Celsius), and the track temperature was also 93 degrees Fahrenheit (34 degrees Celsius). Charles Pic set the first lap time of the session a leisurely 1:52.954 in his Caterham. Adrian Sutil (Force India) soon lowered that to a 1:51.402. And then Pic's teammate Guido van der Garde clocked a 1:50.792. The fast guys remained in the pits. 15 minutes into the session saw about half the field out on the track. Everybody was running Pirelli's white side-walled medium compound slick Paul di Resta was the first to break the 1:50 barrier when he turned a 1:49.572 in his Force India. 18 minutes into the session, the Ferrari, Mercedes and Red Bull drivers remained in the pits as Pastor Maldonado set a 1:48.592 in his Williams. Then Daniel Ricciardo, who had complained of brake problems earlier, beat that with a 1:48.001 in his Toro Rosso as Kimi Raikkonen slotted into second after clocking a 1:48.393 in his Lotus. Then Nico Hulkenberg (Sauber) and Bottas (Williams) beat Raikkonen's time but couldn't top Ricciardo. 24 minutes into the session, Vettel and Massa finally ventured out but Alonso and Webber stayed put in the pits. The Romain Grosjean did a 1:46.883 in his Lotus. Mercedes teammates Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg moved into second and third. 31 minutes into the session, Hamilton moved on top with a 1:46.514. The top six halfway through FP3 were: Hamilton, Grosjean, Rosberg, Vettel and McLaren teammates Jenson Button and Sergio Perez. But that order did not remain so for long as Webber turned a 1:46.220. With 25 minutes remaining in the session, Hamilton improved his time to a 1:46.445 and therefore remained in second place. The drivers were still running the medium compound tires and doing long runs. In the race the plan would be to use the mediums for one short stint and the super softs for two stints. But the teams needed to know just how many laps the mediums would last. On Friday the scope had been anywhere from less than a lap to 25 laps. With 22 minutes remaining in the session, Vettel moved into second with a time of 1:46.299. With 17 minutes remaining in the session, the pits started to fill up as the teams prepared the cars for qualifying simulation runs on the super soft Pirellis. With 14 minutes remaining in the session, only four drivers were on the track" Jean-Eric Vergne (Toro Rosso) and Marussia teammates Jules Bianchi and Max Chilton. With 10 minutes remaining in the session, Grosjean and Rosberg got things rolling on the qualifying simulation front. Other drivers soon joined the party. With 6 minutes remaining in the session, Grosjean moved ahead with a 1:44.364. Vettel crossed the line to record a 1:44.173. Others tried but failed to beat that time. So Grosjean was second, Rosberg third, Webber fourth and Hamilton fifth. They were the only drivers below the 1:45 mark. Alonso, Perez, Hulkenberg, Button and Felipe Massa (Ferrari) rounded out the top 10 .. Kind Regards Shaky-Schumi |

The Red Bull driver was comfortably fastest in Free Practice 2 on Friday night. His teammate Mark Webber wound up second with a time .604 of a second slower. The Mercedes duo of Nico Hulkenberg and Lewis Hamilton were third and fourth and a full second slower than Vettel. Adrian Sutil was the first out in the night as FP2 began at 9:30 p.m. local time. His Force India teammate Paul di Resta was out next. The ambient air temperature at the start of the 90-minute session was 84 degrees Fahrenheit (29 degrees Celsius), and the track temperature was also 86 degrees Fahrenheit (30 degrees Celsius). Sutil also clocked the first flying lap at 1:51.501. Valtteri Bottas (Williams) quickly beat that with a 1:50.057. but Sutil responded with a 1:49.768. 7 minutes into the session, Sergio Perez posted the best time – 1:49.652 – in his McLaren. Nico Rosberg set a 1:48.281 in his Mercedes. Then, 10 minutes into the session, Sebastian Vettel blasted around in his Red Bull to clock a 1:46853 and beat Rosberg's time by a full 1/428 seconds. Rosberg improved to a 1:47.633, and then his teammate Lewis Hamilton moved into second place with a 1:47.166. Mark Webber had only done a couple of laps, but then 15 minutes into the session he did a flyer at 1:46.489 in his Red Bull. The track was getting faster. 20 minutes into the session, Webber now topped the list with a 1:46.157, Vettel was second with a 1:46.408, and Hamilton third with a 1:46.577. Felipe Massa, meanwhile, had a scary moment and just missed sliding his Ferrari into a wall. The drivers were running Pirelli's medium compound slick tires with the white sidewalls. 25 minutes into the session, Daniel Ricciardo became the first driver to try the super soft slicks with the red sidewalls. He had been 15th quickest on the medium tires with a time of 1:49.644, and he jumped up to second with a lap of 1:46.406 More drivers, including Vettel, were now trying the super softs. 35 minutes into the session, he turned a 1:44.249. Then Webber turned a 1:44.853 on the super softs as Fernando Alonso (Ferrari) moved into third with a 1:45.691. 38 minutes into the session, Rosberg took over third place with a 1:45.258. At the midpoint of FP2 the top six were: Vettel, Webber, Rosberg, Hamilton, Romain Grosjean (Lotus) and Fernando Alonso (Ferrari.) Only the two Red Bull drivers were below the 1:45 mark. The Mercedes drivers were a second slower. And the gap from the Red Bulls on top to the Marussias at the back was a whopping 5.4 seconds. 49 minutes into the session, Vettel headed out for another run on the super softs. Webber, Hamilton and Rosberg did the same. The game now was not a single fast lap but long runs to see how long the super softs would last in race conditions with heavy fuel loads. With 30 minutes remaining, the top six remained? Vettel, Webber, Rosberg, Hamilton, Grosjean and Alonso. Jenson Button (McLaren), Kimi Raikkonen (Lotus), Sutil and Perez rounded out the top 10. As the teams continued to work, Pastor Maldonado provided some entertainment by nosing his Williams into the wall at Turn 13. He selected reverse gear and backed out of trouble and drove back to the pits. With 21 minutes remaining in the session, Maldonado was the only driver not out on the track. With 18 minutes remaining in the session, Maldonado joined the action so all 22 drivers were out there until Grosjean pitted with brake problems. With 15 minutes remaining in the session, Mercedes radioed Hamilton to pit for a change to the medium compound tire. Others including Vettel were also on the mediums as race simulations continued. Grosjean remained the only driver not running on track. With7 minutes remaining in the session, Maldonado slid off again but this time found an escape road and missed the wall. The top 10 at the end of FP2 were: Vettel, Webber, Rosberg, Hamilton, Grosjean, Alonso, Button, Raikkonen, Sutil and Perez. Kind Regards Shaky-Schumi |

Thirty minutes later, with the lights blazing and keeping the circuit in electric daylight, Hamilton was still at the top of the charts in his Mercedes as Free Practice 1 came to an end. Red Bull‚ Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel were second and third, while Hamilton‚ teammate Nico Rosberg rounded out the top four. Marussia teammates Max Chilton and Jules Bianchi were the first two drivers out onto the 23-turn 3.147-mile (5.065-km) street circuit as FP1 began. The ambient air temperature at the start of the 90-minute session was 88 degrees Fahrenheit (31 degrees Celsius), and the track temperature was also 91 degrees Fahrenheit (33 degrees Celsius). Everybody did an installation lap or two (Daniel Ricciardo did three in the Toro Rosso) and then sat in the pits waiting for somebody else to go out and clean off the dusty streets. 25 minutes into the session, and nobody had set a flying lap. And then Sergio Perez gunned his McLaren down pitlane and headed out. The team radioed him to use lots of brake warm-up and the KERS as well. Caterham teammates Charles Pic and Guido van der Garde joined the party. 30 minutes into the session, Perez clocked the first lap time: 1:53.245. Pic was the next to do a time with a 1:59.152. And then van der Garde turned a 1:57.090. Perez improved to a 1:51.644. 33 minutes into the session, Perez set a 1:50.863. The trio remained the only ones to have clocked times at this stage. Perez then improved to a 1:50.103 only to have Pastor Maldonado beat that with a 1:49.827 in his Williams. 44 minutes into the session, Valtteri Bottas topped the times with a 1:49.510 in his Williams. Halfway through the session the top six were: Bottas, Jenson Button (McLaren), Maldonado, Perez, Kimi Raikkonen (Lotus) and Nico Rosberg (Mercedes.) Things were getting serious now, and Rosberg turned a 1:48.684 only to have Red Bull‚ Mark Webber top that with a 1:48.365. Next, Lewis Hamilton went to the top of the timing screens after posting a 1:47.872 in his Mercedes. 50 minutes into the session, the drivers had been behaving themselves, but Fernando Alonso has a wild moment in his Ferrari and nearly slapped the wall. 55 minutes into the session, Webber was back on top with a 1:47.699. Hamilton responded with a 1:47.055 as Webber improved his own time to a 1:47.420. At the one hour mark, the top six were: Hamilton, Webber, Sebastian Vettel (Red Bull), Rosberg, Raikkonen and Alonso as the sun set. Romain Grosjean, who had completed just one lap in his Lotus, had yet to set a time. With 27 minutes remaining in the session, Perez slid off the track at Turn 7, spun his McLaren 180 degrees, and rejoined the action. With 25 minutes remaining in the session, Grosjean finally made it out to do another lap. With 20 minutes remaining in the session, the top six remained unchanged. With 18 minutes remaining in the session, Grosjean moved up to eighth place. Perez was eighth while Jean-Eric Vergne (Toro Rosso), Esteban Gutierrez (Sauber) rounded the top 10. With 12 minutes remaining in the session, Raikkonen slid off at Turn 13, smoked the tires as he spun the Lotus around, and headed back on track. Meanwhile, Grosjean deposed Alonso from sixth place. With 6 minutes remaining in the session 17 cars were on track. With 2 minutes remaining in the session 19 cars were on track. The drivers were pounding out the laps but their lap times were not improving. At the end of FP1 the top 10 were: Hamilton, Webber, Vettel, Rosberg, Raikkonen, Grosjean, Alonso, Perez Vergne and Gutierrez. Kind Regards Shaky-Schumi |

The Singapore Grand Prix (Marina Bay street circuit) – 6th edition, night race – 20/21/22 September 2013
The first Formula 1 Grand Prix of Singapore was held in 2008. At Singapore there is a spectacular atmosphere because the race takes place under artificial lighting and this Gran Prix was the first night race in F1 history. Of course in Europe we will see the event in the afternoon (in 2014 also Bahrain Grand Prix will be run as a night race). The Singapore Grand Prix is one of the slowest of the Formula 1 season with low average speed and requires a high downforce. It is a stop-start track with too many 90-degree curves (altogether there are 23 corners). However this year, the race organizers have modified the track layout. The chicane at Turn 10, will be removed totally and the lap will be around 1 sec faster. Is a little step forward, to improve the layout. The Singapore Grand Prix runs anticlockwise and is very demanding for pilots due to the heat, humidity and length of the race. This is a twisty circuit with very few run-off areas and is one of the most grueling races of the year. The barriers are close to the track and the chance of a Safety Car is very high. There has been at least one Safety Car at every Singapore GP. Pirelli will bring supersoft compound (red stripe) and medium compound (white stripe), the same combination used in 2013 at Melbourne and Montreal. Two DRS zones: the first on the start-finish straight, the other between the curves 5 and 7. Winners, Podium and pole position (last 3 editions) 2010: 1° Alonso – Ferrari (2° Vettel and 3° Webber) – fastest lap: Alonso – pole: Alonso, time 1m 45.390 2011: 1° Vettel – Red Bull (2° Button and 3° Webber) – fastest lap: Button – pole: Vettel, time 1m 44.381 2012: 1° Vettel – Red Bull (2° Button and 3° Alonso) – fastest lap: Hulkenberg – pole: Hamilton 1m 46.362 Wins for current pilots: Alonso 2 wins (2008-2010) – Vettel 2 wins (2011-2012) Hamilton one win(2009) Podiums at Singapore: Alonso(4 times) – Vettel(3) – Button, Webber and Hamilton(2) – Rosberg(1) Pole position: Hamilton(2) – Vettel, Massa and Alonso(1) The stats of this season(2013) after 12 races. Winners: Vettel(6 times) Alonso and Rosberg(2); Raikkonen and Hamilton (1) Second place: Raikkonen(5); Alonso(4); Webber(2) Vettel(1) Third palce: Hamilton(4); Vettel Webber and Grosjean(2) Alonso and Massa(1) Total Podium: Vettel(9); Alonso(7); Raikkonen(6); Hamilton(5); Webber(4); Rosberg and Grosjean(2); Massa(1). Pole position: Hamilton(5 times) – Vettel(4) – Rosberg (3) |
