The season of Formula 1 is about to begin in Melbourne(Albert Park)
This year there will be many changes and the most important is: the new f1 2014 Power Unit(PU) It is comprised of a 1.6-liter turbocharged V6 engine mated to a new Energy Recovery System(ERS) with two electric motors – one recovering energy from the brakes(MGU-K) and the other from the exhaust(MGU-H) – storing the energy in an onboard battery Together they're capable of producing 760 horsepower – around 600 horses comes from the internal-combustion engine and the rest from the hybrid assist. Drivers are allowed only five power units per season and the specification was already frozen for this year on February 28 Different penalties on the starting grid will be applied for each additional element used. In case of replacement of a complete power unit (beyond the 5 permitted) the pilot must start the race from the pit lane. In addition, each driver will be allowed just 100 kg (140 litres) of fuel per race in 2014, easy to understand that decisive for the victory will be therefore reliability and the fuel consumption optimization other change: Less downforce in rear zone due a single exhaust pipe and also narrower front wing; the car minimum weight limit has been increased to 690 kg. For these reasons, the lap times should be higher. in Bahrain Felipe Massa ended testing with the fastest time overall of 1m 33.258s, while Nico Rosberg’s pole time for the 2013 grand Prix was 1m 32.330s. This year will be very important the Power Unit(PU) Mercedes AMG – Mc Laren – Williams and Force India are powered by Mercedes Scuderia Ferrari – Sauber and Marussia are powered by Ferrari Red Bull – Lotus – Toro Rosso and Caterham are powered by Renault The preseason tests(Jerez and Bahrain) have been dominated by Mercedes powered teams and especially the new Mercedes AMG F1 W05 (Hamilton and Rosberg) seems the best. Ferrari a step below Williams (Massa and Bottas) could be the surprise of the season. Also Mc Laren MP4-29(Button and Magnussen, a rookie very fast) seems a good car. Great difficulties for the team powered by Renault Red Bull continued to struggle with reliability problems. and during the tests they chalked up a total of just over 1,700 kilometres (Mercedes and Williams 5000 km for each, Ferrari 4500 km) Last thing. This year there will be other new absurd penalty for drivers and the new double points system to the final race in Abu Dhabi. A rule unsportsmanlike, only for the show. |

The thrill is rising up ... this week... the F1 will start !
this year is different, this year is special, new rules, new limits, new cars, new frontiers to be reached for the technicians and the teams. I am very excited because for the first time after years i really don't have a clue about who is the stronger and the faster. For the first time after a long long time i really don't know who can be the real pretender of the championship title !!! I don't know even if there are many or few reliability problems ! It could be happening that few cars will reach the finishing line... looks like to get back to the '80 when everything can happening !! Good luck everybody ! Ferrari win !!! GO KIMI GOOOO !!!!! p.s. Schumi, never give up, never surrender !! go Schumi gooo !!!! |

Bahrain F1 test: Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes end winter on top :
Lewis Hamilton returned Mercedes to the top of the times while Red Bull's struggles continued during the final pre-season Formula 1 test of 2014 in Bahrain. The 2008 world champion made a late start, after losing most of the morning to a gearbox issue on the W05, but worked his way to the top of the times as the afternoon progressed. He fell just 0.02 seconds short of beating Felipe Massa's Sakhir circuit pre-season benchmark from Saturday's test and bumped Massa's Williams team-mate Valtteri Bottas from the top spot, after the Finn had led the way for most of the day before stopping on the start-finish straight with a mechanical issue. Sebastian Vettel endured another frustrating day in Red Bull's RB10, suffering what the team described as "a mechanical issue at the front of the car", which pitched the world champion off at Turn 1 before lunch. The German returned to the track in the afternoon, and racked up a total of 77 laps, but at reduced pace. He wound up ninth fastest thanks to late improvements under the floodlights, but still over four seconds off Hamilton. Fernando Alonso set Ferrari's fastest time of pre-season around the Sakhir circuit to go third fastest, after the F14 T caused one of eight red flags across the day when Alonso stopped at Turn 12.Romain Grosjean's Lotus, Jenson Button's McLaren, and Nico Hulkenberg's Force India all suffered engine failures that curtailed their running early, while clutch issues forced Kamui Kobayashi's Caterham to stop prematurely too. Jean-Eric Vergne enjoyed arguably Toro Rosso's most successful day of pre-season, clocking 74 laps and the fifth fastest time. Adrian Sutil and Esteban Gutierrez split driving duties in the Sauber and racked up more laps between them (177) than anyone else. Electrical dramas delayed Max Chilton, but the Brit made a late surge to seventh on the timesheet, splitting the Sauber drivers with Marussia's fastest lap of pre-season around this track. Thus ended a drama packed Formula 1 preseason, the next episode being the real deal when engines fire up in anger for the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne ( 14th - 16th march ) !!! 01 Lewis Hamilton - Mercedes - 1:33.278 -69 laps 02 Valtteri Bottas - Williams - 1:33.987 +0.709 - 108 laps 03 Fernando Alonso - Ferrari - 1:34.280 +1.002 - 74 laps 04 Nico Hulkenberg - Force India - 1:35.577 +2.299 - 74 laps 05 Jean-Eric Vergne - Toro Rosso - 1:35.701 +2.423 - 74 laps 06 Adrian Sutil - Sauber - 1;36.467 +3.189 - 91 laps 07 Max Chilton - Marussia - 1:36.835 +3.557 - 61 laps 08 Esteban Gutierrez - Sauber - 1:37.303 +4.025 - 85 laps 09 Sebastian Vettel - Red Bull - 1:37.468 +4.190 - 77 laps 10 Jenson Button - McLaren - 1:38.111 +4.833 - 22 laps 11 Kamui Kobayashi - Caterham - 1:38.391 +5.113 - 106 laps 12 Romain Grosjean - Lotus - 1:39.302 +6.024 - 32 laps Kind Regards Shaky - Schumi Ps: With the ending of the winter test I would like to announce that there will be again a F1 game here on the forum as well on Saturday as on Sunday ! Bahrain Test II Day 3: Massa raises the bar as world champions fail to do a lap :
Felipe Massa set the fastest time of Formula 1 pre-season testing in Bahrain so far on Saturday, as Sebastian Vettel failed to complete a lap for Red Bull. Williams focused on performance work for Massa's final day in the car before the Australian Grand Prix weekend, and late in the afternoon the Brazilian, on supersoft tyres, set the quickest time over the two tests at Sakhir this pre-season. Nico Rosberg - who completed 103 laps despite losing most of the morning due to an engine change - also went out on supersofts and briefly stole top spot from Massa with around 15 minutes to go, but the Williams went back out and beat his time by 0.2 seconds. At the other end of the timing screens sat world champion Vettel, who took over from Daniel Ricciardo following Red Bull's best day of pre-season so far. However, there was no continuation of that momentum for Vettel, who stopped halfway round his out-lap after waiting nearly three hours to head out of the garage for the first time. The RB10 was sent out again before lunch, but this time it only made it to the end of the pitlane before Vettel stopped and had to push the car back. After that the Red Bull mechanics closed the garage doors, and the car did not reappear. Sauber and Lotus were the other teams in trouble. The Swiss team managed one lap before Adrian Sutil pulled to a stop at the pit entry with smoke coming out of the C33, requiring an engine change that could not be completed in time for him to run again. Romain Grosjean was back in the Lotus for the first time at this final test, and after electrical problems prevented him from running in the morning, his day ended after just 33 laps with an MGU-K problem that was too big to fix before the end of the running. In terms of race simulations, Force India followed its programme from the past two days with Sergio Perez, giving Nico Hulkenberg set-up work to do in the morning before a race run in the afternoon. Ferrari had a quiet morning on Kimi Raikkonen's final day in the car, and it finally managed to carry out some race simulation work with the Finn in the final two hours of the day. That left just enough time for some short runs just before the end, which enabled the 2007 world champion to set the third-fastest time. 1 F.Massa - Williams - 1.33.258 - 99 laps 2 N.Rosberg - Mercedes - 1.33.484 +0.226 - 103 laps 3 K.Raikkonen - Ferrari - 1.35.487 +2.229 - 87 laps 4 K.Magnussen - McLaren - 1.35.894 +2.636 - 88 laps 5 D.Kvyat - Toro Rosso - 1.36.113 +2.855 - 80 laps 6 N.Hulkenberg - Force India - 1.36.205 +2.947 - 115 laps 7 J.Bianchi - Marussia - 1.37.087 +3.829 - 78 laps 8 M.Ericsson - Caterham - 1.38.083 +4.825 - 117 laps 9 R.Grosjean - Lotus - 1.42.166 +8.908 - 33 laps 10 A.Sutil - Sauber - 1 lap 11 S.Vettel - Red Bull - 0 laps Kind Regards Shaky - Schumi |

Bahrain Test II Day 2: Perez on top again while Red Bull enjoy best day so far :
Force India’s new boy Sergio Perez did the double by topping the timing screens for the second consecutive day, on the second day of the final Formula 1 preseason test at Bahrain International Circuit, while Daniel Ricciardo enjoyed Red Bull’s best showing in the ten days of testing thus far. Perez’s best time of 1.35.570 was slightly slower than his best 24 hours earlier, and still off Rosberg’s pace a week earlier. Nevertheless the VJM07 gobbled up the mileage on the way to racking 108 laps. The next time the Mexican drives will be when he drives out the pits in Melbourne for the first practice of the Australian GP weekend. Perez said, ”It feels very good to have another full day and to do so many laps. It’s my last time in the car until we arrive in Melbourne and I’m feeling positive about how things are going. The set-up work today was very useful because we tried some different things to have a better direction for the first race. Everything went to plan and we managed to complete all the long runs in the afternoon.” Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso ended the day second fastest by a mere 0.064 of a second, in the F14T and with 122 laps ticked off he managed more mileage than anyone else on the day. The Maranello outfit again looking solid, after Kimi Raikkonen’s niggle packed Thursday. Perhaps the biggest news of the day is that the Red Bull RB10 covered some meaningful laps for a change with 66 completed, despite a late start to their day. Also importantly for the world champions, with some reasonable pace starting to be squeezed out of their problem child. They were considerably quicker than they have been during the five previous days at Sakhir, and way ahead of the next best Renault powered outfit. Next time Ricciardo acquaints himself with the car will be at his home race in a couple of weeks, as his World Champion teammate Sebastian Vettel takes over for the final two days. Williams continued to go about their business without too much fuss, this time Felipe Massa was on duty in the FW33, ending fourth fastest and with 104 useful laps in the bag. Jenson Button was fourth fastest in the McLaren MP4-29, but his day was hampered with a drivetrain issue which caused him to stop out on track. Thereafter the team spent a long while sorting out the problem, with Button re-emerging for a late run, but 52 laps his reward for the day’s graft. Best of the Ferrari customer teams was Marussia, with Jules Bianchi in the cockpit of the MR03, albeit nearly 2.5 seconds adrift of Alonso’s best. Esteban Gutierrez was ninth fastest in the Ferrari powered Sauber C33. They racked up 75 laps and 106 laps respectively. Seventh fastest was Lewis Hamilton, whose day started with an early morning visit to the gravel, which prompted the first stoppage of the day as the Mercedes W05 was retrieved. Although he did manage 89 laps, it was an early shower for the Briton as gearbox problems forced the team to bring an end to proceedings prematurely. Toro Rosso’s Jean Eric Vergne ended with 61 laps, almost matching their sister Red Bull team with regards to mileage, but lagged nearly four seconds down on Ricciardo’s best lap time. Lotus’s day was cut short when the Renault engine blew up and the E22 caught fire with Pastor Maldonado in the cockpit. The team explained on Twitter: “Sufficient char-grilling to render us out for the rest of today.” They managed only 31 laps, way off the pace, and the decision to miss out on Jerez may have appeared good at the time, but right now it is clear they are behind their rivals with their programme Final stoppage of the day came when Marcus Ericsson’s Caterham CT05 also caught fire, as he came to a stop in Turn 4, with less than an hour to go. The Danish rookie managed 55 laps, but as with Maldonado, he was way off the pace. 1. Sergio Perez - Force India - 1:35.570 - 108 laps 2. Fernando Alonso - Ferrari - 1:35.634 - + 0.064 - 122 laps 3. Daniel Ricciardo - Red Bull Racing - 1:35.743 - + 0.173 - 66 laps 4. Felipe Massa - Williams - 1:36.507 - + 0.937 - 103 laps 5. Jenson Button - McLaren - 1:36.901 - + 1.331 - 52 laps 6. Jules Bianchi - Marussia F1 Team - 1:38.092 - + 2.522 - 75 laps 7. Lewis Hamilton - Mercedes GP - 1:39.041 - + 3.471 - 89 laps 8. Jean-Eric Vergne - Toro Rosso - 1:39.636 - + 4.066 - 61 laps 9. Esteban Gutierrez - Sauber - 1:39.976 - + 4.406 - 106 laps 10. Pastor Maldonado - Lotus - 1:41.762 - + 6.192 - 31 laps 11. Marcus Ericsson - Caterham - 1:42.516 - + 6.946 - 55 laps Kind Regards Shaky - Schumi |

Bahrain F1 test: Perez ends first day on top, Red Bull hits trouble :
Sergio Perez set the pace for Force India on the opening day of the final pre-season Formula 1 test in Bahrain. The Mexican moved to the top of the times with a 1m35.290s in the morning, a lap that remained untroubled for the rest of the day as most of the teams focused either on race runs or troubleshooting. All of the Mercedes-powered teams spent the majority of the day working on race-specification, meaning that the headline times were slightly slower than was often the case last week. Williams's priority for most of the day was aero work and a race simulation, but towards the end of the session Valtteri Bottas went out for a shorter run and moved up to second in the times. Ferrari and Kimi Raikkonen suffered a minor setback as the team worked through some glitches in the morning, but as the day went on the 2007 world champion built up some miles in the F14 T, gradually improving through the afternoon to end up third. Raikkonen then brought the session to a slightly premature end when his Ferrari stopped on the backstraight with just a couple of minutes remaining. Last week's regular pacesetters, Mercedes and McLaren, had a low-key day in terms of laptime as they also focused on race work, while Red Bull and Lotus suffered more trouble. Daniel Ricciardo managed 32 laps in the morning for Red Bull, before the team's overheating issues - caused by its packaging rather than a Renault engine issue - prevented it from running again until the final few minutes of the day. Lotus had to call an early close to its running when problems with a new exhaust configuration forced the team to switch to the previous specification - a job that could not be completed in time for Pastor Maldonado to return to the track. Elsewhere in the pitlane, Marussia enjoyed its best day in pre-season so far, completing 44 laps with Max Chilton and setting a best time of 1m38.610s. Fellow back-of-the-grid-team Caterham made a stuttering start to the final test, with reliability issues limiting Kamui Kobayashi to just 19 laps. 1. Perez - Force India - 1:35.290 - 105 laps 2. Bottas - Williams - 1:36.184 - +0894 - 128 laps 3. Räikkönen - Ferrari - 1:36.432 - +1142 - 54 laps 4. Rosberg - Mercedes GP - 1:36.624 - +1334 - 89 laps 5. Sutil - Sauber - 1:37.700 - +2410 - 89 laps 6. Magnussen - McLaren - 1:37.825 - +2535 - 109 laps 7. Ricciardo - Red Bull Racing - 1:37.908 - +2618 - 39 laps 8. Chilton - Marussia F1 Team - 1:38.610 - +3320 - 44 laps 9. Kvyat - Toro Rosso - 1:39.242 - +3952 - 55 laps 10. Maldonado - Lotus - 1:40.599 - +5309 - 31 laps 11. Bahrain Day 4: Mercedes on a high as Rosberg ends test fastest of all :
If there were any doubts that Mercedes have a significant edge over their rivals, after the final day of testing in Bahrain, those doubts will surely have been swept aside as Nico Rosberg scorched around the desert venue to comfortably set the fastest time of all, in this second and penultimate stanza of Formula 1 tests before the start of the season. Rosberg’s time of 1.33.283 was a full second up on his teammate Lewis Hamilton’s best 24 hours earlier, and 1.6 seconds up on the next best on the final day, which was set by Jenson Button in the McLaren. Last year in FP3 at the same venue Fernando Alonso was quickest with a best time of 1:33.247 at the wheel of the V8 normally aspirated Ferrari, which is a tad up on Rosberg’s best of the day in the V6 turbo. Pole last year was 1:32.330, set by Rosberg. With only eight days of real world running the new generation V6 turbo power units are almost on par with their normally aspirated V8 predecessors, suggesting that when teams get a full handle on these engines and related systems the new generation Formula 1 cars will be extremely rapid. Rosberg set his best time in the W05 on soft Pirelli tyres during the morning session, and went on to rack up 89 laps – a Mercedes powered car has set the fastest lap in all eight preseason test sessions to date. The only hiccup in the Silver Arrows programme were two stoppages during the course of the day. “It’s been a good day,” the German told BBC. “We were doing lower-fuel stuff in the morning, really getting into the qually rhythm and finding a balance for that. That was working well. I felt comfortable in the car – it’s important for me to feel at home, that everything is to my liking. I was really able to push it, which was cool, a good feeling. Second fastest was Button, and McLaren could probably lay claim to being next up in the pecking order as both the 2009 world champion and rookie Kevin Magnussen have appeared comfortable, and fast all week in the MP4-29. Kimi Raikkonen enjoyed a fruitful day at the wheel of the Ferrari, setting the third best time of the day with 82 laps on his board. But with five minutes to go in the day’s proceedings it all went pear shaped as he crashed into the barriers, damaging the front end of F14T. A glance at the final lap times will show that the Finn was 3.4 seconds down on Rosberg’s best. Not long after Williams announced that Felipe Nasr was appointed test and reserve driver, the Brazilian found himself on duty in the cockpit of the FW36 and gave a good account of himself on the way to racking up 87 laps. Setting the fourth best time, in what was a hasty debut no doubt ushered along by the Banco do Brasil sponsorship deal which was announced at the same time as Nasr’s confirmation . Lotus had their best day of all thus far with Pastor Maldonado on duty in the E22, setting the fifth best time and doing 58 laps during the course of the day, and ending the test easily the fastest of the Renault powered contingent albeit 5.4 seconds slower than Rosberg’s best. Drive train problems severely curtailed Sergio Perez’s time in the cockpit of the Force India VJM07. He was slowest of the Mercedes powered brigade, and only managing 15 laps altogether. Red Bull’s problems with he RB10 continued, Daniel Ricciardo only managing 15 laps, the best of which was 6.5 seconds adrift of the top pace – in total the likable Australian only managed 43 laps during the course of his two days in the cockpit as a variety of issues continue to plague the world champions, who are enduring what must be described as a nightmare start to their season.Sister team Toro Rosso were equally hampered by problems, Jean Eric Vergne managing only 19 laps on his way to setting the eighth best time. Caterham’s Kamui Kobayashi and Marcus Ericsson shared driving duties on the final day, but problems cut short any meaningful running for the team. Ferrari powered teams Sauber and Marussia were anchored to the bottom of the timing screens because neither Adrian Sutil or Jules Bianchi managed to do any meaningful timed laps, as they too were plagued with problems on the day. The teams now remain ensconced at Bahrain International Circuit until Thursday, 27 February when the final four day preseason test will begin, while back at the respective factories work will continue unabated, with all teams shipping in a raft of development parts for the third and final test ahead of the season opening Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne. 1 :N.Rosberg - Mercedes - 1.33.283 89 laps 2 : J.Button - McLaren - 1.34.957 +1.674 69 laps 3 : K.Raikkonen - Ferrari - 1.36.718 +3.435 82 laps 4 : F.Nasr - Williams - 1.37.569 +4.286 87 laps 5 : P.Maldonado - Lotus - 1.38.707 +5.424 58 laps 6 : S.Perez - Force India - 1.39.258 +5.975 19 laps 7 : D.Ricciardo - Red Bull - 1.40.138 +6.554 15 laps 8 : J-E.Vergne - Toro Rosso - 1.40.472 +7.189 19 laps 9 : K.Kobayashi - Caterham - 1.43.027 +9.744 16 laps 10 : M.Ericsson - Caterham - 1.45.094 +11.811 4 laps 11 : A.Sutil - Sauber - no timeset - 7 laps 12 : J.Bianchi - Marussia - no time set - 5 laps Kind Regards Shaky - Schumi |
