Procol Harum - A whiter shade of pale
The most famous song of Procol Harum at its most spectacular version (Live in Denmark, 2006) |

In 1997, a group of great artists came together for a good cause, raising funds to help the people of the Caribbean island of Montserrat.
I recommend watching the entire concert. Here, a small sample. |

a rarety :
The story behind "Save the last dance for me" and Ben E.King Ben E,..King told: “The new manager after we became The Drifters was the same manager as the original Drifters. His name was George Treadwell. When we took on the name The Drifters, we became the new Drifters, and signed a contract to be put on salary, which I think was like a hundred dollars a week, a piece, five hundred dollars for all five of us. One of the members of the group, I can’t remember which one, found out we were making $3 - $5,000 a night. We were getting a hundred dollars a week a piece. Everybody got upset about it. On the way back from one of the tours, we all decided that we’d set up a meeting with George Treadwell and ask for an increase in salary. So, we got back to New York and met downtown at the office. We told him what our feelings were about the salaries we were getting. He looked at me ’cause I stood up and made some speech and said, ‘Well, look, you stand aside and anyone who wants to join you can do so’. I walked out in the hopes that the rest would follow. When I got out, I stood next to the door, and no one followed”.But the record was already recorded , but not yet released , "the Drifters" was the name on it" |
