Hey friends,......East Greenwich Gas Works,London SE.
I have memories, as a young lad, from this place,my Mum used to bring me to the area to visit the Thames River,Greenwich pier and the "Cutty Sark", an old clipper ship I was obsessed by the large cylinders used to store the produced gas made by burning coke(coal) and the smell, this was before Natural gas was found!! the site covered 2km there always seemed to be a"fog" hanging in the air! It ceased producing in 1976 Redevelopment in late 90's the area became The Millennium Dome. It is now the o2 Arena events venue, a new railway station was built (Underground) the whole area re landscaped Cheers guys [hidden image - please register] [hidden image - please register] |

My friends, Reliant supervan 3
OK, when you have stopped laughing!! this was my first vehicle after the mad years of motorcycling 100km an hour to 60km you dare not go any faster in case it turned over!! very prone to tipping over!! Fibre glass body on metal frame work you could drive these things on a motorbike licence that was the only attraction !! believe me the controls were identical to a standard car, so in theory you taught yourself to drive which did help me pass the driving test quite quickly!! best regards guys [hidden image - please register] [hidden image - please register] |

Hey guys,..........Tilbury Docks Essex SE UK
Tilbury Docks became part of The Port of London Authority in 1932 despite being 32 nautical miles from London!, it was made much larger over time, when the docks in London shut down, late 60's/early 70's it became the new London Docks deep water berths were made to allow the massive container vessels to dock safely, much larger ships could now come here because Tilbury is close to the large mouth of the river Thames so they did not have to negotiate the Thames.added also deep water dock to take Cruise ships as well!. Cheers guys [hidden image - please register] |

Hey Guys,.............Port of Dover Kent
Despite the Channel Tunnel being just a few km's away and operating since 1994 passengers seem to be the mainstay...........Freight still seems to be favouring the ferries, the port seems as busy as it ever was! yes, one or two ferry companies have succumbed to the tunnel fast trains I have a feeling the foot passengers are the ones who don't use the ferries quite as much! freight seems abound insuring the continued success of the Eastern Docks!! best regards guys!
