Sicario ( 2015 )
Kate ( Emily Blunt ) is an idealist FBI agent. After an unfortunate raid she gets a chance to join a special team who fighting against drug cartels in a much higher level. The team leader is Matt Graver ( Josh Brolin ), and his right hand is a really mysterious person, Alejandro ( Benicio Del Toro ). At the beginning of their work Matt do not share almost any information with Kate and later when Kate is beginning to understand what they do and why they do it she should decide what is more important to act lawfully or to act even also above the law, if it is necessary. The movie is really good. Denis Villeneuve made a great work , i found the convoy scene is really a well-built scene . I have problem with the story a bit. The viewers follow Kate during almost the whole movie and she have no idea what is going on around her therefore the viewers have no idea what a heck is going on really in the movie. And the whole movie looks a bit slow sometimes because of the characteristics of the story and it was a bit annoying for me . I have to say something also about the soundtrack. It is perfectly works with the movie. Denis Villeneuve work as a director plus Jóhann Jóhannsson's music make some scene really tense . I think defining the genre of this film is wrong because it is truly not an action movie, maybe defining this movie as a "simple" thriller is better but this is just my humble opinion of course. In any case, i do not regret that i watched it. 7,5 / 10 |

Got me this, after I missed it on the big screen, on blu ray
Basically I thought this to be focussed more on the work of Stephen Hawking. Cannot say I was disappointed as it was more about the relation between him and his wife while his sickness progresses. His work and theories as an integral part of his life and later fame are supporting the story but remain more in the background. Felicty Jones as Jane Hawking did very well portraying the strong character she needed to be as to live with this man and his disease. And ... oh my ... I would have never believed he could do that ... Eddie Redmayne as Stephen Hawking. He was so impressive, so brilliant, he was Hawking himself. It earned him an Academy Award. None of the Oscars of the last years was given to someone who deserved it as much as him. In case you want to watch a brilliant and emotionally very touching movie this one's for you. A must see for everybody anyway. |

Why Don't You Play in Hell ? aka Jigoku de naze warui ( 2013 )
Director & Writer: Shion Sono The center of the movie is a group of young film fanatics who wants to make one epic movie in their life and they are ready to die for make it or after it. In the other side there are two rival Yakuza clans who confronting with each other constantly. After a small confrontation between the two clan one of the clan boss's wife have to go to the jail for 10 years. The worst thing is in this situation that her daughter, who is a young, child actress directly before a big career, lose the chance for the big breakthrough success. The story jump 10 years forward into the time. The young filmmakers still waiting to the opportunity to creating one epic movie. The Yakuza clans are still against each other. The occasion what will to trigger the real changes in the whole story that the wife of the yakuza boss will be released from the prison after 10 days later therefore the boss, Muto ( Jun Kunimura) have to find a film crew who able to make at least one great movie where the starring is their daughter Mitsuko ( Fumi Nikaidô ). The end result is a huge, surreal, bloody massacre between two clans at the end of the movie ( it is simple epic ) what the film crew trying to capture. The extent of the showdown is a bit similar like in the good old classic western [hidden link - please register] (1969). The movie is a combination of drama, action, an art movie and a bit of comedy, but despite to the positive things i'm not recommend this movie for everyone. The whole movie maybe is a bit too long and the story is a bit slow sometimes ( however every single scenes will be important later ). I can recommend this movie for all of the people who like the good, unique movie. I truly liked. I think i will check some other movies from Shion Sono later. 7 / 10 |

Finally ... yes finally ... last night I made it to this one ....
Being a Star Wars maniac from more or less the first second, I was really wondering whether this would work for me, after having grown up with Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Han Solo, Princess Leia, Chewbacca, R2-D2 and C3-PO. Continued with Episode I to III which for me and in my opinion had some flaws. Episode I was a movie for kids, returning in Episode II again more to the mature audience, however, how can it be that Anakin has grown up with Padmé being still the same? Hayden Christensen as Anakin was a bad choice in my opinion as with this young wrinkle less plain milk face I was missing this fierce energetic bad character Darth Vader was supposed to be. In Episode III it almost worked when changing sides from good to bad, but only with a lot of make up (greyish face) and yellow contact lenses. Almost ..., but still not quite. However, the aim of closing the gap and building the bridge between Ep. III and IV was well achieved. Other characters and good actors like Liam Neeson and Samuel L. Jackson have been wasted for minor roles. Anyway, even Episode I to III had their moments in good old Star Wars tradition, in particular the end of E. III with the last picture more or less the first Tatooine picture in Episode IV. And now we have Episode VII. I will not spoil the fun nor the story thus just a few words. Episode VII, of course, comes with some of the old characters (Han Solo, Leia, Chewie, C3-PO, less of R2-D2, ...) giving the baton to the new 'generation'. The girl Rey, Finn and Poe Dameron with their new very emotional droid BB-8 as the good guys, still supported though by the old generation. Surprisingly the story works, at least for me. Lots of X-Wing and TIE fighter scenes and battles, lots of fighting amongst the various characters with the basic story moving a little to the background in my opinion. The movie is more focussed on action and owing it to Disney on humor. Some moments and scenes for a good laugh, but not doing any harm to the story itself or those considering Star Wars as serious movies. To the contrary it is a good contribution. The entire optic of the movie, sound and music is right in the foot steps of the preceding movies and you get into that special Star Wars mood, after having made yourself a little familiar, with it being a new movie and a new plot with new people, quite soon. The last picture of the movie will take you away .... For me a definite It follows the good old Star Wars tradition. Well you have done, Disney. Quite unexpected that was. |

Hot Fuzz (2007)
Exceptional London cop Nicholas Angel is involuntarily transferred to a quaint English village and paired with a witless new partner. While on the beat, Nicholas suspects a sinister conspiracy is afoot with the residents. Typical brit humor written by and starring Simon Pegg. Laughed my butt off on this one. |
