and the german version of the homepage isn't in german but an unknown language.

OK, for me it's still understandable.
What made me mostly quit DF (only for spare) is the limited folder structure (no sub folders possible) and finally the poor communication after file removal due to DMCA notice

If the files are on the normal unlimited storage nothing changes for free downloader, also the uploaded files will be removed there after 90 days of inactivity without premium account.
But Cloud storage is completely independent of that, only linked to the same account.

If it's necessary to add something: that's the only place on line where you can share 25 GB of files for free and eternally.
And if the files are uploaded in DepositStorage, you can download them as a free user without any delay or restrictions.
Every free user with a fully functional brain is obliged to salute the current work and efforts from DF
