Hi all
At some stage this year I will be running some extra cables from my satellite into the house and was thinking sending one to my pc with the intention of ripping some feeds, etc. Do any of our video encoders have a favorite model of card (not too expensive - only have either PCI or USB slot) that they use? If so do I need extra software to rip? I am using Linux, but I could boot into Windows to run the software if needed (not sure off the top of my head which version I am running - either XP or Windows 7 with about 400GB hived off for that os). Any help appreciated. Regards, Tom. |

Thanks guys, it looks like I have some starting points for both my PC and possibly a new receiver (need one of those too, eventually!).
Have you modified your receivers in any way, or are you just running standard software? |

PCI card Technisat Skystar HD2, software player DVBdream with Elecard codecs, Hadu plugin for cccam cardsharing.
Tested on XP, Vista, Windows 7 - works fine, very easy recording in mpg format directly to PC harddrive |

Similar to 'Mauro', I use a Dreambox 7000, but I prefer to stream the output across the network to my computer for watching and recording.

Sorry, I use a Dreambox 8000 - very recommendable. Recordings are stored as MPEG2 files and I can transfer them to the PC using FTP (LAN) or USB.

Does the lack of replies mean nobody uses a PC to record streams? What do you record to and how to you transfer it for editing?
