Recommended PVR DVB Receivers for recording

Another interesting topic: which PVR receiver do you use to record clips or shows? I own a Dreambox 7025S and as you can see in many of my vids the resulting recorded Transport Stream is buggy with weird artefacts not seen on any other receiver.

Therefore my question: can you recommend a good receiver saving the files as Transport Stream or any other MPEG2-compliant filetype? Without creating weird artefacts of course :-)

Re: Recommended PVR DVB Receivers for recording

I'm glad you raised this topic, because I thought I was the only unfortunate one. I have a DM7000s and added a DM7025S, both receivers are fed from a quad LNB.

The DM7000s never suffers from the annoying artefacts which plague the DM7025S some of which get so bad that the receiver stops recording altogether. So I think the problem is the different tuner type used in the newer DM7025S. I've tried the different firmware versions but there is no improvement.

I can only receive Hotbird & I've also noticed that the "artefacts problem" is usually worse around the time a new channel or name change to a channel is carried out on the same transponder as eurotic.

Re: Recommended PVR DVB Receivers for recording

OK if it is the dreambox which causes the problem, (I always thought that they were the `non plus ultra ´- they cost a bit !)

I´ve downloaded a few of your videos, so I know what you are on about. Some are really good and the others really seem to suffer with video transitions, field errors bottom half shifted left or top half shifted right.

Question is, do you want a PVR receiver ??
Why not rip straight into your PC and save transfering from one to the other.

Re: Recommended PVR DVB Receivers for recording

Thanks for your info guys. But I'm really unhappy, I know that especially SexySat delivers buggy output anyway, but the artefacts appearing on the Dreambox recordings are worse than on any other receiver.

@Shirtful: I have a 120cm dish with perfect signal (ok, with a quattro LNB), but I tested the receiver at my parents as well (single LNB) and the result is the same.

I can up a transport stream file tonight if anyone is interested in checking it, and a few vidcaps showing up the problems. Polarscan has a Dreambox too, and reports about the same problems.

Re: Recommended PVR DVB Receivers for recording

@Mauro
I shouldn´t worry about the artifacts when ripping from either
eUrotic and or sexy sat (crap signal all the time). I´ve been getting them too from ETV
during the last couple of weeks. The stream was terrible - drop outs, freezes, blocks etc.
How are your normal channels with the dream box (e.g RTL or Live24) ?
For the last couple of months have been ripping 2 streams each straight from LNB (Astra and Hotbird). When ETV went tits up passed the signal thru a D/A converter and doubled the bit rate to make it more stable.

@ Mauro
Two receivers with a similar problem. you are either unlucky or have a problem with the signal reaching the boxes, try to eliminate any multiway switches first, then use a single LNB to reduce current demand on receiver.

PS. Certain receivers don't work well with certain multiswitches and/or LNBs. Noticeable drop in performance at certain freqs.

Re: Recommended PVR DVB Receivers for recording

Yeah, basically it is a great receiver. But I have lots of artefacts when watching ETV or SexySat TV and on a few Italian channels. I also have the latest firmware (Gemini 3.0) installed. Same Problems with the 600 PVR (here I just have the artefacts in the recordings)

Re: Recommended PVR DVB Receivers for recording

It's strange because dreambox 7025 is a very good receiver. Have you the latest firmware?
