My nephew got a new gaming laptop for his Birthday and was curious about shadowplay that came with the graphics card(GTX 960M). Uses H264 encoder on graphics card to encode video, taking that task away from the CPU. It can record the screen during gameplay, so that you can publish the sequence as a video.
It also can capture in desktop mode to record your actions on screen. Now this next bit might interest you webcam viewers, you can now record the video and chat panel if so wanted easily at high frame rate (30fps) with no demands on CPU. yeah it works but is a bit of a disk hog. your also getting a transcoded end result which is always lightly less quality than the original feed if recording with something like rtmpdump.
but like you say its gpu hardware based so has little hit on the cpu. |
