They can seize them for the time of the investigation. They will have to release them after that. If not, it's thieft and you can sue them. ;)

Why?
Because it sets a precedence.
If they manage to get this through courts, every CEO will be liable for illegal activity carried out with their products.
Do weapons manufactureres know that their products are used for murder? Yes. So they'll be liable.
Do car manufacturers know that their products are used for escape from bank robberies, drug transport or whatever? Yes. So they're liable.
Does the US president know his troups are involved in war crimes? Yes. So he is liable.
This case is gonna construct precedence unless they manage to prove that MU is predominantly designed to support illegal activity...
Maybe I just missed the sarcasm Blush
For me this seems to be just another war of the U.S.A. to protect economical interests.
Just this time not with weapons of mass destruction.

Re: Megaupload & Other File Host Problems

The shut down of MEGAUPLOAD is the beginning of the end of an Freedom and Independence
in the Internet. Behind this is the lobby of the music and film companies.

What have we done 30 or 35 years ago? Someone recorded an Album or music songs on a tape.
So friends recorded other ones and we met us for a overplaying party. Joined 2 cassette recorders with a
5-pole overplay cable and shared the music. Illegal ?

Nobody cared two hoots about it.

At last here is an interview with a lawyer of MEGAUPLOAD from the

Re: Megaupload & Other File Host Problems

It is clear that all the world's governments want to control the Internet business for more income. In today's society the access to culture and art are extra, that is, the higher the purchasing power of the individual, the greater their access to knowledge. This is totally unfair to the majority of the population. For megaupload, I think that hurts a few, but benefits many. An honest policy should seek the common good.

Please excuse my English.
