I do not know if internet explorer 9 download from MEGA, but version 10 for Windows 7 download files without any problems, at the end of the download asks to save the file and is successful

Don't you think the one Google Chrome availability is a good insurance bill for Dotcom?

Tested 2 files from David Orton, quite good speed, but download available only using Google Chrome, I tried with Firefox and it showed me a window telling I had to download Chrome, even though I've already installed.
And it asks which directory save the file at the end of download.

btw: I've tested up- and downloads so far.
both only with Chrome and the annoying start screen. upload was fast and ok (as with 98% of all OCHs), the download (attempt) was one of the praised big files download (> 2 GB) and all 3 attempts failed.
several reasons for not using MEGA and exactly 0 reasons for using MEGA at the moment.

Not a big surprise, but it will be interesting to see if and how the authorities will react and if Kims legal provisions are good enough.

Perhaps they are referring to MD5 checksums: [hidden link - please register] (or some other kind), in the sense that they keep track of all the MD5s of the files (because it is impossible anyway to convert from MD5 to file) so that they can sort of "monitor" potentially illegal files.
Imagine there is an international database of files flagged as pedophilia, they would all have their own MD5 associated to them, so when somebody uploads them, no matter that they are encrypted, they would be automatically deleted.

Of course, you just need to put your file in a .zip or .rar and add a 1kb .txt file to radically modify the MD5 checksum and bypass that security, so that risk is not really real.

EDIT: Or, another theory I read is that they are not able to monitor files that are downloaded and/or uploaded, but, in case someone uploads a copyrighted movie (let's say) and he shares it with you, you have the option to add it to your account without actually downloading and re-uploading it, which means the file is the same. If the file on that guy's account gets deleted, it is safe to assume that yours would be, too, as it is merely a link to the original.

that's the main reason for a no-go of creating a Mega account.
the speed problems for up- or downloads are probably problems of the first days, the chrome-only is of course shit and sad but no way to change a password or deleting the accounts are no-gos!!!
if you have lost once your password this will mean that all your datas are lost, too.

of course except Mega got a way to encrypt the uploaded files. ;)
so either Mega posted some bullshit termes instead of solving important problems like the chance to renew the password or Mega is lying.
and if any suspecious file (e.g. all the illegal content that killed MU) is found all similar files will be deleted, too. and not to forget the saved IPs of the uploaders.

the expected funs turns damn soon into a kind of nightmare.

PS: no upload tried yet (because of the reasons above), download speed ~ 3 Mb/s.

I think the owners keep data such as usernames and passwords, they just don't keep the encryption key for the single files you upload.
And I definitely hope that all people registering for this are fully aware of what happened with MU anyway.

They don't keep encryption keys for both accounts and files, so you basically need a dynamic IP (offered by most ISPs nowadays) to virtually do whatever you want.
Or, better yet, proxies or a VPN.

After creating an account a few days ago it finally let me login this morning, what i don't like about it is endless BETA or not, so will say what i do

Upload speed is ok at around 134KB which is about average for me, download speed seems good for a free host as i got 1.4MB on that but was slower than RS but i am premium with them so not sure for free users.

My main problem with Mega is that you need to use chrome just to connect and nope not a fan of that browser, i went to download a file through safari and it told me i had to use chrome just for that to work

In short i certainly hope they make a mass of changes as its very basic as it is
