Chrome - proxy settings & 'seeds'?

Sorry if there's a thread for this already - didn't see it if there is,
but I'm hoping one of you technical wizards may be able to help me...

A few weeks ago I realised I was having connectivity problems with browsers & software,
did a bit of digging and found out that my internet connection settings had changed:
under Local Area Network (LAN) Settings
instead of Automatically detect settings under Automatic Configuration,
it had changed to Use Proxy Server under Proxy Settings

I changed it back and everythings ok, except it keeps happening and I cant stop it! Sometimes several times an hour and even when I don't have a browser session open.

I've done some reading and it seems a lot of people are complaining about it with Chrome, and theres no fix.

but it seems to affect Firefox too, whereby any uploads / downloads when the Chrome setting changes just fail to complete in firefox.

I don't know what to do & its really annoying having to check/change settings every few minutes!

BUT I happened to have jaksta running - with no browser open, and I noticed it automatically detected and downloaded a file called 'seed.mp3' and I wonder if that has anything to do with it? particularly as since I first noticed it, it seems to be a regular thing and if I check settings after, its always on proxy - coincidence?

Theres no information on the file but as far as I can see 'seed' files are used by torrents - which I've never got on with & don't use. I don't think I've ever downloaded one and if I did, I never managed to open it! But doesn't a seed file enable someone to access my pc?

So can anyone help me 1) stop Chrome changing settings and 2) stop these seed files downloading?
Any help appreciated!

cheers

Re: Chrome - proxy settings & 'seeds'?

well I think I've sussed it...
malwarebytes & adwcleaner didn't fix it but a complete uninstall & reinstall of jaksta seems to have worked - fingers crossed - but proxy settings haven't changed since...

BUT malwarebytes found 4 instances of backdoor.bot - no its not an anal vibrator, its a really nasty trojan!!

don't know if its connected but have spent much of day dealing with it-
safe mode, mwbyte scan, symantec FixAccess, avast antirootkit & adwcleaner for good measure... all twice with a couple extra scans!!
and resetting all accounts & pw's using the mac just in case...

seems to have done the trick and nothing showed up on last scan
but tomorrows little project will be a factory restore & reloading all my software Confused

bastards!!!Angry

I've done a full scan and with malwarebytes but nothing found - but I recently moved from mcafee to avast and had wondered if that might be something to do with it?

ahem... I'm constantly downloading from those sort of sites Confused but never had a problem with them before. The only things that are relatively 'new' are that I took premium on filchier and started using pornhub direct links but I can't remember if this was happening before...

but a couple of things to try!
Thanks

And then try this as free version.

Some time ago I had problems with my PC. This program helps when others fail. I have deleted everything what the program has found. Since my PC works great.
