For all expats (from England), just read that the BBC is moving their channels over to their
new sat, astra 2e tonight. Looks like the end of free television for some of us, although I do have a vpn. Can't understand why they don't do like the germans do, and allow their tv over europe. Gonna have to get me a mega dish, should please the neighbours |

I can report that the Hidemyass application and VPN service is pretty good actually, I use it for torrents etc, but invaluable if you need to stream channels from another country etc.. I have set this up for parents in Southern Spain and they are currently enjoying BBC channels and ITV/Channel4/5 etc whilst everyone lese around them has lost the signal due to Astra 2E's tight UK footprint. They are on a 1.3m dish and lost them all!!
Even better, with HidemyAss VPN, give you the availability to embed the VPN tunnel into your router with DD-WRT compatible routers, Or if your prepared to get the best option, a compatible router that allows VPN service just entered through the web interface which is very very easy. Hidemyass provides a full service list of all their servers and you can individually test each one from your location to find the most stable and fastest server. Then you simply copy the server info into your VPN info into your WAN area of a compatible router, click apply and restart the router.. Then your entire network is tunelled through the VPN Server meaning all of your devices on your network will have that specific country IP address!! Works perfectly for my parent in Malaga, they watch many UK channels through SKY and onDemand service, but for BBC and other terrestrial channels that have now gone, they simply connect to a streaming service. Plenty out there, one of the easiest and best to you is TVCatchup [hidden link - please register] If you run your own HTPC (media PC) it even has a plugin in which works with both XBMC and Mediabrowser (through Windows Media Centre) hidemyass even allow you to use their software on more than one pc if your using their Windows Based software! Best Routers for Little configuring and allow Hidemyass VPn info to just be entered into the config of the web interface are the high end Asus range including Asus RT-66u & Asus RT-N16. These routers are fantastic as well as giving you dual band (2.4 & 5Ghz range) and up to 900Mbps ! Full list is here: [hidden link - please register] If you need any more info, gimme a shout |

Cheers for the info jorrell, will look into it.
Using a vpn called HideMyAss at the mo, (stop laughing people). Works well on the PC, and I can download shows onto the Ipad and watch on apple tv on my normal tv. Not as good as what I've been used to these last few years. ps all my BBC channels disappeared last night, looks like ITV and Channel 4 go tonight |
