 Kid greets mum with hilarious sign at airport ... A MUM returning home from a business trip was left a little red-faced by the hilarious welcome sign her young son was holding as he greeted her at the airport. Barbara Nielsen was on her way back home to Oklahoma after a week away in Arkansas for work when husband Brandon and son Daimen went to the airport to pick her up. [hidden image - please register] But young Daimen had a little surprise in store for mum, greeting her in the airport arrivals terminal with a large cardboard sign bearing the words: “Welcome home from prison mom”.  Infrared camera captures first high-definition footage of Ili Pika in northwest China ... Ili Pika is one of the most secretive and rare creatures on the planet. The mammal is found only in mountainous areas in north-west China at altitudes from 2,800 to 4,100 meters, [hidden link - please register] to the CGTN television channel. [hidden image - please register] This is the first time an infrared camera has captured high-definition footage of the Ili Pika, a rare pika species endemic to Tianshan Mountain. The Ili Pika was included in the 2008 IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. The volunteers who placed the infrared cameras in the protected area last winter went back to collect data and images from Tuesday to Sunday. Scientists practically know nothing about the habits of this mammal and the peculiarities of his life. Because of the unstudied and the rarity of the appearance - Ili Pika named "magic rabbits." For the first time they were seen in Tien Shan in 1983 and the next time they got into the lens only after 22 years. |

 The Hawaiian volcano began to throw out precious stones ... Hawaii's Kilauea volcano has been fiercely erupting for well over a month. Now, residents are finding little green gems that have fallen out of the sky during Kilauea's eruption. [hidden image - please register] The green gems are olivine crystals, a common mineral found in Hawaii's lava. At jewelry quality, the mineral is called peridot. As the volcano erupts, it blasts apart molten lava, allowing for green olivine minerals to be separated from the rest of the melt and fall as tiny gemstones. [hidden image - please register] Hawaii's volcanoes are hotspots, where the mantle magma continually upwells and burns a hole through Earth's oceanic crust. Oceanic crust, in composition, is very similar to what we would find in the upper mantle with high olivine concentrations. [hidden image - please register] Need another reason to travel to Hawaii? How about tiny gemstones falling out of the sky? This is just another reason why Hawaii is a magical and unique place unlike any other on Earth. It is watched by all of America. Raccoon climbs to the tallest skyscraper in Minnesota ... President Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un captivated the world on Tuesday morning with a historic summit that seemed to lower the prospect of a devastating global war. Not long after, a Minnesota raccoon captured some of the attention and seemed to raise the prospect of a collective national heart attack. [hidden image - please register] The masked animal did so by scaling a St. Paul, Minn., skyscraper, a la Spider-Man, in the process riveting — and terrifying — legions of humans who followed online. By late Tuesday morning, the critter was spotted a few stories up on a window ledge of the UBS Plaza building, its brownish body just a smudge on the building’s concrete and mottled stone exterior. [hidden image - please register] By lunchtime, Minnesota Public Radio reporter Tim Nelson tweeted, the raccoon had climbed 12 stories up the UBS Tower — and things were getting stressful. It had gotten stranded on a neighboring building two days before, Nelson said, “likely on an errant mission to raid pigeon nests on the skyway.” [hidden image - please register] And it apparently decided that the only way to go was up. By midafternoon, the raccoon had ventured an additional 10 stories up, its claws somehow digging in enough to continue. On a window ledge on the 22nd floor, it paused to rest. Despite their reputation as woodland creatures, raccoons have made themselves quite at home in North America’s urban areas. It’s a fish with a bird-like head, caught in a river in China.
Last week, a bunch of fishermen were wetting a line near Guiyang City in southwestern China's Guizhou Province. They reeled in this odd-looking fellow and were a little taken aback at their catch. It looks a little like a bird… if a bird was entombed in a fish’s body and was condemned to a life of misery. It also kind of looks like a dolphin attacked by a shrink-ray. Whatever it is, it doesn’t look normal. It’s odd appearance made it a hit on Chinese social media platform Weibo, where it was dubbed a "birdfish". [hidden link - please register] |

Indian farmer walks 3km with snake wrapped around leg after it bit him ... This is the moment an Indian farmer walks into a town seeking help with a snake coiled around his leg. The reptile had sunk its fangs into Satyanarayan Mandal’s right leg, just above the ankle, when he was working in his farm near Madhepur in eastern Bihar state. [hidden image - please register] The snake’s curved teeth got stuck in his flesh and unable to free itself, it had coiled itself around his leg. Terrified and unable to remove the stubbornly attached snake, Mandal walked for three kilometres to the Madhepura town, where people saw his plight and rushed to help. Eyewitness Mohammed Asharf said: “It was scary as we were not sure if the snake was poisonous or not.” [hidden image - please register] “Many in the crowd wanted to kill the snake and free him. But two men offered to help saying they would try to save both the man and the snake.” The two men tightly wrapped a piece of cloth around the slippery snake and managed to uncoil it. They then held its head and gently removed the teeth from Mandal’s leg. They wrapped the snake in a bag and released it later in a nearby forest. Mandal was taken to a hospital, where doctors examined him and said he didn’t have any symptoms of poisoning. Snake expert Subhendu Mallik reviewed the videos and said the snake was a non-venomous checkered keelback. |

 Real life Jurassic World? The video shows the horrifying discovery one man came across while treking through a forest in South America. It appears to show the remains of a malnourished hybrid animal, with awhat looks like the head of a dinosaur. But the man who came across it claims it is, in fact, proof of a folklore legend known as El Chupacabras. [hidden image - please register] The mythical beast gets its name literally from the two words "chupa" meaning to suck and "cabra" which translates to goat. Sightings were first reported in Puerto Rico two decades ago and it quickly gained popularity after farmers claimed it attacked livestock and drank their blood.  Chinese city introduces special walkway for Smartphone-Using Zombies ... Authorities in the Chinese city of Xi’an recently inaugurated a special sidewalk lane designed for “phubbers” – people who walk while staring at their smartphones and ignore everything around them. Painted red, green and blue and featuring pictures of smartphones, the special lane is located on the busy Yanta Roan, in Xi’an, and is 80cm wide and 100m long. [hidden image - please register] Chinese media reports that a large shopping mall overlooking the smartphone-user lane had been asking authorities for it over a month, which suggests that it’s just a marketing scheme. Cars often come onto the pavement in front of the mall, sometimes barely missing pedestrians who have their eyebvalls virtually glued to their smartphones, so the lane is supposed to keep them out of harm’s way. Polar bear broke into warehouse building of hotel in Svalbard to have a snack ... A polar bear broke into a food store at the hotel ‘Isfjord Radio’ on Svalbard on Sunday morning. After eating a bag of chocolate,the bear escaped. [hidden image - please register] Station Manager, Malin Stark discovered the bear’s visit a little before 07.00 on Sunday. She said she was not afraid when she realised that the bear was still inside the building. ‘’No, not exactly scared. But it was an adrenaline rush when it turned out that the bear was still in the building. I went in and woke up the guide who is here with some guests,’’ said Stark to NRK news. She thinks it was a pretty big male bear. The food store at Isfjord Radio was a distinctive goal of Sunday’s polar bear visit. Garbage cans and boxes of food lay empty at the broken shelving sections. Stark said that the polar bear had eaten a bag of chocolate, and in addition,opened bags of food waste and crushed a number of wine bottles. |

Albert the angry swan terrorises canal attacking anyone who passes his nest in a canoe, kayak or boat within his 'territory' ... An angry swan has been attacking river users in Devon if they dare to sail past his nest, extraordinary photographs have shown. The huge swan named Albert has been spotted getting aggressive to protect his territory and wife 'Victoria' and has been so vicious he even sank a kayak. [hidden image - please register] Tony Nixon's garden backs onto the beautiful Grand Western Canal, in Tiverton, Devon, where he has spotted the frequent assaults on kayakers. Albert and Victoria have nested on Tony's property for the past four years earning Tony the title of 'The Swan Man'. [hidden image - please register] Their nest sits at the right-hand corner of the bottom of the garden, around 40 metres wide along the canal bank. Tony said that while Victoria is nesting with eggs, and when the cygnets are born, Albert will attack any canoe, kayak, paddle board, rowing boat or even dog which comes too close. [hidden image - please register] For around 12 weeks every year from mid-March to June water sport enthusiasts know to be wary when Albert is about. Thankfully the foul tempered water fowl has no quarrel with Tony, aged 70, and will allow him to sit with him and Victoria, to the point where the pair have even been known to share a cheese toastie. [hidden image - please register] Retired joiner Tony, who lives with his wife Shelagh, said Albert will start attacking boats even before Victoria starts laying. He said: 'It starts probably mid-March, and intensifies from there as Victoria lays her eggs and the cygnets are born. A Mystery animal shot in Montana has confused wolf experts, but Werewolf? A strange canid recently shot and killed in Montana looks so weird, that authorities are going to be conducting DNA testing to determine what kind of animal it actually is. A rancher near the town of Denton killed the animal on May 16 when it ventured within several hundred yards of his livestock; he then reported the kill to Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP) in accordance with local law. [hidden image - please register] Because the animal was close to a residence and livestock, the rancher was within his legal rights to shoot it. Wolves are native to the area, so that's what the animal was reported as - but when the department's wolf experts looked at photographs of the animal, they noticed several problems with the identification. [hidden image - please register] "Something was not right about the animal," a spokesman for the department said in a video released [hidden link - please register] "It does not look like a wild wolf." The canid was a young female, but her paws were too small for a wolf, her teeth too short, her ears too big, and her front claws too long. That hasn't stopped the internet, as the internet does, from wildly speculating, with cryptid communities excited about the possibility of a dogman (or dogwoman, as it were) or werewolf, or even it being a member of the extinct dire wolf species. 'Spider-Man' of Paris climbs four storeys to rescue dangling boy ... A young man has been hailed a hero after he scaled the facade of a building to save a four-year-old child hanging from a fourth-floor balcony. Mamoudou Gassama took just seconds to reach the child in a rescue captured on film and viewed millions of times on social networks. [hidden image - please register] The incident took place at about 8pm on Saturday in northern Paris. Footage of the rescue shows Gassama, 22, pulling himself up the building’s storeys from balcony to balcony as a man on the fourth floor tries to hold on to the child by leaning across from a neighbouring balcony. On reaching the fourth floor, Gassama puts one leg over the balcony before reaching out with his right arm and grabbing the child. First-time lottery player wins $400,000 in North Carolina ... A North Carolina man said an impulsive decision to buy his first-ever lottery ticket led to a $400,000 jackpot. Newton resident Carlos Chavez, who owns his own construction company, told North Carolina Education Lottery officials he and his workers were doing a job in Durham on May 2 when they stopped at the Croasdaile Family Fare store. A Staten Island Man Found a Safe of Cash in His Backyard ... For years, the rusty metal box lay entangled in poison ivy and trees in a Staten Island backyard. The homeowners thought it was just an electricity box. But last month they were amazed to discover it was instead a locked safe that held money and jewels that they traced to a $52,000 robbery in 2011. And so began the tale of Bamboo Bob, the Ninja Burglar and the stolen treasure of Staten Island. Two little girls ride a giant deadly python ... This shocking footage shows two little girls giggling and pulling faces as they ride on top of a huge python. The little girls look overjoyed as they ride the reptile, a reticulated python, one of the world's longest and heaviest snakes.
