Venice votes to split from Italy as 89% of the city's residents opt to form a new independent state.

Venetians have voted overwhelmingly for their own sovereign state in a ‘referendum’ on independence from Italy.
Inspired by Scotland’s separatist ambitions, 89 per cent of the residents of the lagoon city and its surrounding area, opted to break away from Italy in an unofficial ballot.
The proposed ‘Repubblica Veneta’ would include the five million inhabitants of the Veneto region and could later expand to include parts of Lombardy, Trentino and Friuli-Venezia Giulia.
The five-day poll came in the same week that Crimean residents chose in a landslide vote to leave Ukraine and become part of Russia.

Today is the most important day in my city, today is the Feast of the "Fallas" in Valencia, Spain.
For those who do not know, I'll tell you the most important thing at this event is fire and gunpowder.
Here I show you an impressive video of what this homage to the fire are the "Fallas".
In Spain, they think that the Valencian ones we are crazy. Possibly, it is true...

PS: I can not resist to give an example of a typical "mascletà" of the "Fallas".

‘A Hard Day’s Night,’ featuring an Oscar-nominated script written from the viewpoint of the Beatles as they became trapped by their mop top-era fame, is set for re-release in theaters and on Blu-ray.
The news, courtesy of NME, follows a series of events celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Beatles’ arrival in America. The Beatles’ web site, however, has not yet confirmed this re-release.
NME reports that the 1964 film, which culminates in a fictional television concert appearance after a series of zany misadventures, has been fully restored and will be in theaters and available for download on July 4, 2014. A limited-edition DVD and Blu-ray release is reportedly set for July 21 in the U.K. Hopefully and presumably, release dates for the United States will be announced soon.

Python eats dog in Australia backyard

A large carpet python swallowed a dog in the backyard of a home in Caniaba in southeastern Australia, wildlife officials said.

The unidentified owner of the pet dog, a Chihuahua-Maltese mix, said she approached the backyard doghouse to release her dog from its chain, and found a 2.5-meter snake with a large bulge in its body and the dog's chain emerging from the serpent's mouth.

"She realized that she made a dreadful mistake. She hadn't thought about the possibility of a snake taking the dog," Wildlife Information Rescue and Education Service volunteer Sue Ulyatt said.

The python was taken to a local wildlife sanctuary, where it would be examined to see if surgery will be required to remove the chain, the Illawarra Mercury reported Sunday.

A German court has sentenced the president of the soccer club Bayern Munich, Uli Hoeness, to three-and-a-half years in prison

quite untipically Confused
usually contracts made till the 30th of june and for complete seasons.
also is "money for years" and not "years for money" normal at soccer. Tongue

PS: if they do penalties in prison it would be the best not to leave the prison for bringing back the ball. they are still searching for the ball from 1976. Big Grin

Death row inmate Glenn Ford released 30 years after wrongful conviction.

Man found guilty of murder by all-white jury in deeply flawed trial had one of America’s longest-ever waits for exoneration.Glenn Ford has been freed from the notorious Angola prison in Louisiana having lived under the shadow of the death sentence for 30 years. He becomes one of the longest-serving death row inmates in US history to be exonerated.Ford was released on the order of a judge in Shreveport after Louisiana state prosecutors indicated they could no longer stand by his conviction. In late 2013 the state notified Ford’s lawyers that a confidential informant had come forward with new information implicating another man who had been among four co-defendants originally charged in the case.
He was sentenced to death in 1984 for the murder the previous November of Isadore Rozeman, an older white man who ran a Shreveport jewellery and watch repair shop. The defendant had worked as an odd jobs man for Rozeman. In interviews with police Ford said that he had been asked to pawn a .38 revolver and some jewellery similar to that taken from Rozeman’s shop at the time of the murder by another man who was among the initial suspects.
Asked as he walked away from the prison gates about his release, Ford told WAFB-TV, “It feels good; my mind is going in all kind of directions. It feels good.”

Ford said he did harbour some resentment at being wrongly jailed: “Yeah, cause I’ve been locked up almot 30 years for something I didn’t do.

Michael Schumacher showing 'small, encouraging signs' in hospital : Smile Thumb up
Michael Schumacher is showing "small, encouraging signs" in hospital two and a half months after his devastating skiing accident.
The seven-time Formula 1 world champion has been in a coma in a Grenoble hospital since sustaining head injuries when he fell while skiing on December 29 last year. His management announced in late January that doctors had begun "the waking up process", but no further medical updates had been issued since then. On Wednesday morning his manager Sabine Kehm released a further statement saying that there was some cause for encouragement. "We are and remain confident that Michael will pull through and wake up," she said. "There are small, encouraging signs, but we also know that this is the time to be very patient.
"Michael has suffered severe injuries. It is very hard to comprehend for all of us that Michael, who had overcome a lot of precarious situations in the past, has been hurt so terribly in such a banal situation. "It was clear from the start that this will be a long and hard fight for Michael. "We are taking this fight on together with the team of doctors, whom we fully trust. "The length of the process is not the important part for us." Kehm also reiterated the family's appreciation of fans' support, while underlining their need for privacy amid criticism in some quarters over the handling of information about Schumacher's condition. "It is heart-warming to see how much sympathy his family is shown and I can say that the family is extremely grateful for it," said Kehm.
"However, it should not be forgotten that Michael's family is dealing with an extremely intimate and fragile situation.
"And I would like to remind all of us that Michael has always actively kept his family out of the public eye and consequently protected their private lives."
