Re: Nature - Discussion & Chat

My Friends,......Dulwich Park SE London
This vast park is now a conservation area in London!
When I was a lad it was well known for it's family of Red
Squirrels Greys as well but they are not the best of friends!!
There is a very large boating lake with an Island in the middle
which was always a haven for wild fowl! Now part of the lake
has been left to go wild creating a perfect place for wonderul
Nature to take over and flourish!!
Unfortunately the Red Squirrels are long gone! best wishesSmileSmile

Re: Nature - Discussion & Chat

Hi guys,............Bee Keeping on Romney Marsh
Another case of man helping Nature!! without mans'
help in providing hives for them to live in, they would
settle somewhere us mortals would not like usually a
hollow tree or your garden shed!!!
a typical hive can house up to 70,000 bees!!and just 1 Queen
250 drones,20,000 female foragers,30,000 female house bees
looking after 5000-7000 eggs at one time!! What a lot of stings!!!
man is really protecting Nature looking after the bees correctly!!
kind regards guysSmileSmile

Re: Nature - Discussion & Chat

I can't let 'bigalathome' have it all his own way here Big Grin
I live on the opposite side of this island. Looking around I see that I have a number of bridges nearby, a clear indication of man's determination to overcome the boundaries set by nature.
The original Severn Bridge:-
[hidden image - please register]
Opened in 1966, is a suspension bridge and is still in operation although the majority of traffic now uses ...

The second Severn Crossing:-
[hidden image - please register]
Opened in 1996, this is a more modern and aerodynamically stable structure comprising segmental bridge approach viaducts and a central cable stayed bridge.

Prior to these bridges, there was The Aust Ferry. Few pictures of this remain but there is one truly iconic one of the Aust landing stage which features in this video, along with both bridges:-

There are two other bridges, slightly further away but both interesting ...
The M5 Avon Bridge:-

And probably one of the most famous bridges in the world,The Clifton Suspension Bridge, which also crosses the River Avon:-
