I had thought to do it some time ago, I jumped at the chance to make it happen.

I´m from Germany and my englisch isn´t very good but my problem isn`t the differnce between "have got" and "got". My problem is I don`t know what means "kicked ass".

I think the confusion stems from the fact that "I have got" is used both as "I have" right now, as in "I've got wife and children.", and as a more "proper" past perfect: "There is news that John has got a job.", in this case it doesn't technically mean that John has a job (as a "condition", let's say), but the focus is on the fact that he has obtained (found) a job.

I guess that it is a matter of points of view, whether you want to stress the condition, the result or the very action.

The important thing is always to use "I got", without "have", when you have (or you've got ) some kind of time reference such as "Yesterday", "Last year", etc., e.g.: "Yesterday I got a cat." (it doesn't really mean anything but just from a linguistic point of view).

Englishmen can correct me if I'm wrong.

EDIT: Americans avoid this confusion completely by saying "gotten" as the past participle of "get".

Not being English, that approach is too simple. It doesn't explain when to use which expression.
What I learned at school is "I've got something" means I became owner of something and I'm still owner of it, while "I got something" just says at some time or some place I became owner of something, but I'm not necessarily owning it anymore.
Therefor I never understood when to say "I've got something" and when to say "I have something", as in both cases I'm still owner, but also when saying "I have something" it's unavoidable I became owner in the past.

I admit that my English is very bad.
I'm sorry.
That's why same, I help with a translator to understand well the posts.
The problem is that, on having done it, if after a dot there is no a space, the translator does not translate the words previous and later to the dot.
My request is that, please, you try to put a space after a dot, so that the translator understands the word, and could translate it.
I ask for excuses if this post bothers someone, but I think that many we have this problem.
All that we have problems with English, we will be grateful for it very much.

Request to the moderators who if this it is not the thread, place this post in the thread adapted for one better diffusion.
