It was quite a challenge to get such a quality out of a recent TV-recording of Studio 66, but luckily mencoder and some very heavy filtering (pp7-postprocessing & deblocking, temporal denoising & some light sharpening have done an excellent job. The deinterlacing-part has been done by the amazing McDeint and if you're interested here are the complete mencoder-options used to encode the video:
"-demuxer lavf -nosub -fps 50 -ofps 50 -vf yadif=1,mcdeint=1:0:10,pp7=2,pp=tn:32:64:128:c,softskip,scale=704:396:0,unsharp=l5x5:0.00:c5x5:0.00,harddup -field-dominance 0 -sws 9 -aid 0 -oac pcm -ovc x264 -x264encopts qp=20:nointerlaced:preset=slower:keyint=500:keyint_min=50:force_cfr 2"
