Men' s Singles : Jannik Sinner (1) won his 16th ATP tournament in career (second Slam and first US Open), defeating
Taylor Fritz (12) 6-3, 6-4, 7-5 after 2h 16'

Sinner opened the match with a break in the first game, but Fritz broke him back in the fourth game, equalizing the match at 2-2, then the Italian broke again the American twice, in the seventh and in the ninth game, closing the set 6-3 after 41'; the second set was balanced, with no break-points given, until the ninth game, when Sinner broke Fritz at the very first opportunity, closing the set 6-4 after 34'; the third set was again balanced until 3-3, then, in the seventh game, the American broke the world's N° 1 and went 5-3, serving for the set on 5-4, but the Italian champion, with 4 games in a row, closed the match 7-5 at the first match-point and managed to win his second Slam of the season, gaining his 55th victory of 2024 (compared to only 5 defeats) and winning the 23rd match in a Slam, as well as an abysmal advantage of 4.105 points in the ATP ranking over the second in the ranking, Alexander Zverev, which means having virtually already closed the race for the place of world's N° 1 at the end of the season, while Fritz, in his first career Slam final, was unable to succeed Andy Roddick, the last American tennis player to win the US Open in 2003, but consoled by becoming world' s N° 5.

Women' s Singles : Aryna Sabalenka (2) won her 16th WTA tournament in career (third Grand Slam and first US Open), defeating
Jessica Pegula (6) 7-5, 7-5 after 1h 53'

The match, played with the roof of the Centre Court closed due to bad weather, was pleasant, has a good rhythm and the public appreciates it : Pegula was the first to enter the match, taking a break lead in the third game, but she was not able to confirm it and little by little Sabalenka's aggressive tennis took over the match, with the Belarusian extending her lead with the 4-2 break and then going 5-2, but, at 5-3, when she was serving for the set, she packed up and lost her serve, then, at 5-5, she was forced to save a delicate break point and finally, at 6-5, she broke again her rival at the fifth set point, after the American had missed a tie-break ball, thus closing the partial 7-5 after exactly 1 hour; in the second set, Sabalenka's positive inertia continued up to 3-0 and a 4-0 break-point, at this point, however, there was the vehement reaction of the American who, with two consecutive breaks, took a 5-3 lead, arriving, at 5-4, to serve to extend the match to the third set, but, right at the best moment, Pegula went 0-40, canceling the first two chances, but capitulating at the third, so Sabalenka, holding her serve, overtook Pegula and at 6-5, she gained two consecutive match-points on her opponent's serve, failing the first, but not the second, which gave her her first US Open, becoming the fifth tennis player to complete the Melbourne-New York double in the Open era after Steffi Graf (1988 and 1989), Monica Seles (1991 and 1992), Martina Hingis (1997) and Angelique Kerber (2016) and confirming herself as the absolute queen of outdoor hard court, given that in the last 4 Slams played on hard courts she won 27 out of 28 matches, only losing last year's Flushing Meadows final to Cori Gauff, while Pegula failed to win her first Slam.
