Results Finals : Men' Singles : Novak Djokovic (6) won his 71st ATP tournament in career (third US Open and 14th Grand Slam), defeating Juan Martin Del Potro (3) 6-3, 7-6 (4), 6-3 after 3h 15' First set was decided by an only break, made by Djokovic in 8th game, with Nole closing the set 6-3 after 44'; in second set the Serbian broke the Argentinian in first game and kept the advantage until 3-1, but he was broken back in fifth game and the set was then decided by the tie-break, in which Del Potro went 3-1, but was immediately broken back and, with a mini-break on 4-4, Djokovic closed the set 7-4 after 1h 35'; in third set Nole went 3-1, Del Potro was able to immediately break him back, but he lost again his serve in 8th game and Djokovic closed the match with another 6-3 at first match-point, equalling Pete Sampras with 14 Slams won and replacing from tomorrow Del Potro as world' s N° 3, while the Argentinian lost his first Grand Slam final (he won his only previous final in New York in 2009). Women' s Singles Final : Naomi Osaka (20) won her second WTA tournament in career (first Grand Slam and both on hard), defeating Serena Williams (17) 6-2, 6-4 after 1h 19' In first set the Japanese player didn' t feel any pressure for her first Grand Slam final and she broke Serena two times in a row, in third and fifth game, closing the set 6-2 after 35'; in second set Serena managed to break Osaka in fourth game, but she was immediately broke back, then Serena received a first warning for "coaching" and a second for "racket abuse" and she totally lost control, losing again her serve and calling the chair umpire a "thief", resulting in a game penalty, with Osaka who went 5-3 and closed the match in 10th game at the second match-point and becoming the first Japanese player ever to win a Grand Slam tournament and reaching from next Monday her best ranking at N° 7, while Serena lost her second consecutive Grand Slam final after the pregnancy.
