2017 AUSTRALIAN OPEN - DAY 14 (LAST) :
Results Finals : Men' s Singles : Roger Federer (17) won his 89th ATP tournament in career (18th Grand Slam and fifth Australian Open), defeating Rafael Nadal (9) 6-4, 3-6, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 after 3h 37' First set was decided by an only break, made in 7th game by Federer, who then closed the set 6-4 after 35'; in second set Nadal went 4-0, the Swiss champion broke him back once in 5th game, but the Spanish champion kept the remaining break and closed the set 6-3 after 43'; in third set Federer went immediately 3-0, Nadal saved two 0-4 balls, but then was broken again in sixth game, with the Swiss taking a lead of two sets to one, winning 6-1 after 41'; in fourth set the Spanish took a break in fourth game and kept it till the final 6-3 after 40'; last set, after a Medical Time-out taken by Federer, began with a break for Nadal, kept till 3-1, then Federer broke him twice, going 5-3, saving 2 break-points and closing the match 6-3 after 1h 01' for his 18th Grand Slam title (five years after the last in Wimbledon 2012) and fifth Australian Open (7 years after the last). Results Finals : Women' s Singles : Serena Williams (2) won her 72nd WTA tournament in career (23rd Grand Slam and 7th Australian Open), defeating her sister Venus (13) 6-4, 6-4 after 1h 22' In first set, after 4 breaks in the first 4 games, Serena made the deciding break in 7th game, closing the set 6-4 after 42'; in second set Venus saved three consecutive break-points in third game, but she was broken again in 7th game and Serena closed the match at the first match-point with another 6-4, winning her 23rd Grand Slam title (only Margareth Smith Court is now ahead of her with 24) and from next Monday she will return world' s N° 1.
