2016 AUSTRALIAN OPEN DAY 14 (LAST) :
Results Finals : No surprises in men' s singles final : Novak Djokovic (1) won his 11th Grand Slam title in career (sixth in Australia, second consecutive), defeating Andy Murray (2) 6-1, 7-5, 7-6 (3) after 2h 56'. First set was dominated by the world' s N° 1, who saved a break-point in first game, then broke twice the world' s N° 2, closing the set with a quick 6-1 in 32'; in second set (1h 20' long) the Scottish player began to play better, he saved 4 break-points on 1-1, lost his serve on 3-3, but was able to immediately break back the Serbian, who, however broke him again on 5-5, closing then the set in 12th game, after saving a break-point; in third set Djokovic took a break in first game, but he lost his serve in fifth game and the set was decided by a tie-break, in which the Serbian went immediately 3-0, then 6-1, closing the match 7-3. 2016 AUSTRALIAN OPEN DAY 13 :
Results Finals : Big surprise in the women' s singles final of the first Slam of the 2016 season : Angelique Kerber (7) won her first Grand Slam title in career, defeating Serena Williams (1) 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 after 2h 10'. In first set Williams seemed very nervous, she lost her serve in third game, but she managed to broke back Kerber in sixth game, however the German player immediately took another break in seventh game and kept it till the final 6-4; in second set Williams calmed down and broke Kerber in fourth game : this was the deciding break of the set, closed by the American player 6-3; final set began with Kerber ahead 2-0, but Williams immediately broke her back, then, in a very long sixth game, the world' s N° 7 managed to break again the world' s N° 1 and went 5-2, she served for the Championship on 5-3, but she lost her serve without having a match-point; Kerber was able to stay calm and she won the match in the tenth game at first match-point, with the last and deciding break. Angelique Kerber is the second German player to win Australian Open, after Steffi Graf in 1994 and from next Monday she will be world' s N° 2; on the contrary Serena Williams failed to win her 22nd Grand Slam title (the same as Steffi Graf).
