ATP FINALS OF THE WEEK :
ATP 250 Brisbane : Roger Federer (1) won his 83rd ATP tournament (23rd ATP 250) defeating Milos Raonic (3) 6-4, 6-7 (2), 6-4 in a final well played by both players, in which Federer, after winning the first set with an only break in 3rd game, went 2-0 in second, but Raonic broke him back in 4th game and was able to score 7 consecutive points to win the tie-break, then in a third set full of spectacular shots and break points saved by both players, Raonic felt the pressure on 4-5 and with a double fault on 30-30 and an unforced error gave the title to Federer. This was also the 1000th match won in career by the Swiss champion, making him the third in the Open Era to reach this great goal after Jimmy Connors (1253 matches won) and Ivan Lendl (1071) ATP 250 Chennai : Stanislas Wawrinka (1) won his 8th ATP tournament (6th ATP 250), defeating Aljaz Bedene 6-3, 6-4. |

ATP 250 Doha : Another big surprise in Qatar : after Nadal, also world' s N° 1 Novak Djokovic is already out of the tournament, defeated
in quarter-finals 6-7 (2), 7-6 (6), 6-4 by Ivo Karlovic (7), in a match where Nole never seemed in control, mainly because of the great service of the Croatian player. Also qualified for semifinals David Ferrer (4), who defeated Dustin Brown 6-2, 6-2 and tomorrow will face Karlovic, Thomas Berdych (3), who defeated Richard Gasquet (6) 6-2, 6-1 and tomorrow will play with Andreas Seppi, who defeated Ivan Dodig 7-5, 6-4. ATP 250 Doha : Big surprise in the first round : Rafael Nadal, N° 2 of the seeding and defending champion, was defeated
by the German qualifier Michael Berrer (N° 127 ATP) 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 in his first official match after the appendicitis operation last November. After dominating in the first set, Nadal lost his serve on 1-2 in second and in the first game of third set, failing three break-points in the last game of the match; no problems for the N° 1 Novak Djokovic (6-2, 6-1 with Dusan Lajovic) and the N° 3 Tomas Berdych (6-1, 6-4 with Denis Istomin), while the N° 4 David Ferrer had to fight with Thiemo De Bakker, winning 6-7 (4), 6-4, 6-3. |
