Re: International Soccer - General Discussion

Aberdeen were so unlucky against Celtic in the Scottish Cup Final and should have won it. I feel so sorry for them as overall they were the better team, especially in the 1st half as they dominated play and had the better chances of scoring. Well done to Celtic, but they got themselves out of jail and in my view were very lucky to win.

Re: International Soccer - General Discussion

North of the border we have Celtic v Aberdeen. I hope Aberdeen do the unthinkable and win the Scottish Cup against Brendan Rodgers seemingly invincible side. On a sidenote, many thanks for your opinions Ralkin123, you are adding some much needed discussion into this Thread Thumb up

As for my Dundee United team, I will decline to make any comments until everything has been concluded tomorrow but I am really on edge as we are either 90 minutes or more depending on possible extra time and penalties on whether we can return to the Scottish Premiership or face another long season in the Championship. So much at stake and it all boils down to one game!

Bad luck to Ajax it wasn't to be. Well done to Man Utd and even though I wanted Ajax to win, Utd deserved their victory. To all the victims of the horrendous Manchester bombing, you are in our thoughts. Pax Vobiscum. RIPHeartThumb up

Re: International Soccer - General Discussion

All the best to that great club Ajax in the Europa League Final against Man Utd tomorrowThumb up. I want them to win in memory of the greatest Dutch Master of total football, Johan Cruyff who brought his style of playing the beautiful game to my beloved BarcelonaHeart. It was Cruyff who started it all off at Barca many years ago and although I am too young to see the great man playing for either Ajax or Barca(I was born in 1977), I have seen him countless times on film playing and delighting football fans all over the world, irrespective of which club they support. Truly, one of the greatest legends the world has been blessed to seeThumb up.

I also want Ajax to win as one of my all time favourite heroines is the brave Jewish girl Anne Frank who with her Family and a few trusted friends hid in a small attic room in Amsterdam from the cruel Nazis when the Netherlands was occupied during the war. She has inspired so many people with her famous diary and even Nelson Mandela said after being released from prison in 1990 that her diary gave him great inspiration and courage to fight on and to never give up and to believe in the ultimate goodness in MankindThumb up. So for these two remarkable people alone I want Ajax to win the Cup Final tomorrowSmileThumb up, Forza Ajax!

Re: International Soccer - General Discussion

Well said, Scottishbloke about your team and the less glamorous clubs North and South of the Border. I sincerely hope that you get to play in Scotland's Top League next season. The 1st leg is on Thursday 7:15pm on BT Sport. I will be watching and cheering your side on to victory in both legsThumb up.

Re: International Soccer - General Discussion

Just before I do the final round up on the Premier League Predictor Thread I would just like to give a shout out to some of the less glamorous clubs as to say. Its all fine and well talking about Man United, Chelsea, Juventus, Barcelona etc but what makes the beautiful game beautiful is those fans who turn out week in week out with a dream, a dream that one day their team may have an opportunity to even just share the same stage as the world famous successful clubs if even for a very brief moment in history.

30 years ago this was indeed the case as my Dundee United team came within 45 minutes of winning the UEFA Cup (now known as the europa league) and for that moment time stood still. We had got there by beating Barcelona home and away and borussia mönchengladbach in the Semis which now set up a final against IFK Göteborg which was also played over 2 legs. Unfortunately it wasn't to be for us as we lost but it will always fondly be remembered as the high point in the clubs history that a wee club like us could compete with the worlds elite.

Now into 2017 and my dream for Dundee United is just to make an immediate return to the Premiership at the first time of asking. We are now within touching distance of this goal being achieved. We have overcome Morton the Quarter Finals and then Falkirk in the Semi's in dramatic fashion winning 2-1 away to win the match 4-3 on aggregate with the winning goals coming just a few minutes towards the end of the match Thumb up

We play Hamilton over 2 legs with the first leg taking place at Tannadice on Thursday. This will be concluded next Sunday so hopefully next week at this time I shall still be celebrating having just gained promotion back to Scotlands Top Division. My stress levels are through the roof now!

I would also like to wish all the teams left in the drama of the Play Off's North and South of the Border all the best of luck and commiserations to Lutonbloke as he is a Luton Town supporter and he had his dream snatched away from him with Blackpool snatching an injury time winner which must have been devastating for him to watch as his big day out at Wembley for the Final sadly wasn't to be Sad

Re: International Soccer - General Discussion

Obviously I am devastated that Barca couldn't quite make it at the end to win La Liga, but having said that, Real Madrid over the season deserved to be champions of Spain as they on balance were the most consistent of the two top teams in Spain's Top League, so congratulations to themThumb up. Barca, More than a ClubHeartThumb up Catalonia Forever!HeartHeartHeart
