Re: Formula 1 General Chat & Discussion

Kimi Raikkonen will suffer a back operation at the end of this championship,
due to an inflamed nerve, that sometimes causes him pain.
The problem date back to 2001, when he had a crash in his debut season
driving a Sauber.

Vettel crushes the field to win at Singapore :
Sebastian Vettel won the Singapore Grand Prix tonight from pole position in his Red Bull-Renault was 32.6 seconds ahead of Fernando Alonso in the Ferrari in second place. Kimi Raikkonen in the Lotus-Renault finished 43.9 seconds behind the winner in third place. The win is Vettel's 33rd on his career, going ahead of Alonso with 32 wins, and his seventh on the 2013 season, and third in a row. Vettel has now won in Singapore the past three seasons. Nico Rosberg (51.1s) was fourth in the Mercedes, followed by his team mate Lewis Hamilton (53.1s) in fifth place, Felipe Massa (63.8s) in the second Ferrari was sixth, Jenson Button (83.3s) in the McLaren-Mercedes was seventh, his team mate Sergio Perez (83.8s) was eighth, Nico Hulkenberg (84.2s) in the Sauber-Ferrari was ninth and Adrian Sutil in the Force India-Mercedes was in the final points position in tenth. Vettel took off from the field at the start and held a commanding lead into the second stint. The safety car came out on lap 24 when Daniel Ricciardo hit the wall. The first four runners stayed out behind the safety car while most of the rest of the runners, led by Alonso dived into the pits. Vettel once again took off from the field, and one by one the other top four runners (Rosberg, Hamilton and Webber) all made their second stops. When Vettel finally made his second stop he came back still in the lead. Alonso, Button and Raikkonen had all leap-frogged the others and ran all the way to the finish on the same set of tyres. Near the end Button's tyres gave up and he slipped down the order - Alonso and Raikkonen finishing second and third. Vettel on 247 points now leads Alonso (187) in the Drivers' Championship by 60 points - ahead of Hamilton (151), Raikkonen (149), Mark Webber (130), Rosberg (116) and Massa (87 points). In the Constructors Championship Red Bull-Renault (377) leads Ferrari (274), Mercedes (267), Lotus-Renault (206) and McLaren-Mercedes (76 points).
Before the start, Vettel starts on pole, with Rosberg alongside - for an all-German front row. Romain Grosjean starts from third.
Championship contender Alonso starts all the way back in seventh. All the drivers start on Pirelli's supersoft tyre, except for Sutil who starts on medium tyres. The supersoft tyres are reckoned to be two seconds a lap faster than the medium compound tyres.
Every year of the Singapore GP has had a safety car period, so the teams try to prepare their strategies around the possibility.
At the start Rosberg draws alongside Vettel and goes into the lead, but over does the first series of corners and Vettel comes back and retakes the top spot. Alonso makes a fantastic start, diving down the outside into the first corner and jumps up to third. Hamilton runs wide on the first chicane to pass Massa, and is told by the team to give him back the place. At the end of the first lap Vettel leads Rosberg by 1.9 seconds, followed by Alonso, Webber, Grosjean, Hamilton, Massa Button, Hulkenberg and Perez in tenth.
By lap 2 Vettel stretches to a 4.1 second lead, and sets fast lap at 1m52.8s. On lap 3 Raikkonen is challenging Esteban Gutierrez for 11th. On lap 5 Vettel increases his lead to 6.2 seconds over Rosberg, Alonso is a further 2.8 seconds behind. Raikkonen passes Gutierrez for 11th. On lap 6 Webber's engineer tells the Australian to maintain a two second gap to Alonso in order to make his tyres last for the first stint. At lap 10, Vettel leads Rosberg by 7.1 seconds, followed by Alonso (10.8s), Webber (13.5s), Grosjean (14.9s), Massa (17.3s), Hamilton (18.7s), Button (21.1s), Hulkenberg (23.0s) and Perez (24.3s) in tenth place. On lap 11 Raikkonen is the first to pit, along with Jules Bianchi, both taking more supersoft tyres. On lap 12 Gutierrez, Jean-Eric Vergne, Charles Pic and Max Chilton all pit. Alonso sets fast lap at 1m52.8s. On lap 13 Massa and Sutil pit, Massa switching to medium tyres. Sutil switches to supersofts. Raikkonen passes Valtteri Bottas for 15th. Webber complains about his rear tyres going off. Vettel sets fast lap, then is surpassed by Gutierrez with a 1m52.2s on new tyres. On lap 14, Webber, Button, Hulkenberg, Guido Van der Garde and Bottas all pit. On lap 15 Alonso and Perez pit, Alonso switching to medium tyres. On lap 16 Rosberg, Grosjean and Hamilton all pit. Rosberg and Hamilton switch to mediums, Grosjean stays on supersofts. Raikkonen sets fast lap at 1m51.7s. Ricciardo pits as well.
Lotus tells Raikkonen that they are having a KERS problem. Pastor Maldonado, Hulkenberg and Perez battle over 11th place.
On lap 18 Vettel pits from the lead and changes over to medium tyres, rejoins in the lead. Alonso and Webber are stuck behind Paul di Resta in third place - the only driver yet to pit. On lap 18 Hulkenberg gives 11th back to Perez after race control informs the team that he left the track to get by him. Di Resta running 1m54s continues to hold up Alonso and Webber, Vettel and Rosberg running 1m52s. On lap 20 Hamilton complains that his tyres feel "terrible". On lap 21 Di Resta finally makes his first pitstop from third place, taking another set of supersoft tyres. At lap 21, Vettel maintains his lead over Rosberg by 9.0 seconds, followed by Alonso (17.1s), Webber (18.8s), Grosjean (19.6s), Hamilton (20.6s), Massa (24.0s), Button (25.5s), Raikkonen (26.3s) and Perez (32.5s) in tenth place. On lap 22 Raikkonen complains of a problem, but the team tells him that they can't see it in the telemetry data from the car. Grosjean and Hamilton are closing on Webber in fourth place. Red Bull tells Vettel that he should use more of the KERS through the lap - he leads the field by almost 11 seconds. On lap 25 Vergne and Bianchi pit. On lap 26, Ricciardo hits the barricades and sits in the racing line. The safety car is deployed. Bottas pits. Alonso, Grosjean, Massa, Button, Raikkonen, Perez, Hulkenberg, Gutierrez, Sutil and Maldonado all pit. Vettel, Rosberg, Webber and Hamilton have all stay out behind the safety car. Behind the safety car - with his 10 second lead erased - Vettel leads Rosberg, Webber, Hamilton, Alonso, Grosjean, Di Resta, Massa, Button, Raikkonen, Perez, Hulkenberg, Vergne, Gutierrez, Sutil, Maldonado, Bottas, Van der Garde, Pic, Chilton and Bianchi. On lap 27 lapped cars are waved around the safety car. Red Bull reminds Vettel that because of the slow laps behind the safety car, he can use more fuel when the race is resumed. At the end of lap 30 the safety car pulls in and the race resumes with Vettel streaking away from Rosberg and the field. The top four runners having not pitted. On lap 31 Vettel pulls out a 3.2 second lead. Red Bull tells Vettel to push and use the tyres, as he will need to pit again. On lap 32 Vettel sets fast lap at1m50.6s. Hamilton says he ran over debris, and asks the team to monitor his tyre pressure. On lap 33 Vettel set another fast lap at 1m50.4s, the runners behind running 1m52s laps.
On lap 34 Renault calls Grosjean in from fourth place, for a problem with the pneumatic valve system, that they need to recharge. After a long stop Grosjean rejoins in 21st place. On lap 36 Vettel continues to set fast laps, now down to 1m50.1s. He now leads Rosberg by 14.3 seconds. Rosberg seems to be trying to preserve his tyres. On lap 37 Gutierrez runs wide and loses a place but continues. Marussia is telling Bianchi to pass his team mate Chilton. On lap 38 Mercedes tells Rosberg that they believe that some rubber stuck in the front wing is losing front downforce on the car. Grosjean pits again and retires. Vettel sets another fast lap at 1m50.1s. On lap 40 Vergne pits. On lap 41 Webber and Sutil both pit. Webber stays on medium tyres and Sutil stays on supersofts. Vettel sets another fast lap at1n50.0s. On lap 42 Rosberg pits from second place taking another set of medium tyres, and comes out behind Webber, the Red Bull jumps ahead on the pit sequence. On lap 43 Di Resta, Massa and Bottas pit. Mercedes tells Rosberg to push, as other cars have not pitted yet. On lap 44 Hamilton pits from second place for medium tyres. Sutil sets fast lap at 1m49.6s.
On lap 45 Vettel pits with a 30 second lead over Alonso, changes to supersoft tyres, and comes out still in the lead. Red Bull tells Vettel that all he needs to do to win is to look after the car. At lap 45 Vettel leads Alonso by 4.8 seconds, followed by Button (10.3s), Raikkonen (11.1s), Perez (13.4s), Hulkenberg (14.6s), Gutierrez (19.8s), Webber (26.1s), Rosberg (27.1s) and Hamilton (27.7s) in tenth place. On lap 47 Vettel resets fast lap at 1m48.5s. Vettel is told to look after his brakes. Can the runners who pitted during the safety car (Alonso, Button, Raikkonen, Perez and Gutierrez) run the rest of the race without pitting for tyres again? Mercedes tells Rosberg and Hamilton to push to pass Webber. On lap 49 Webber passes Gutierrez for seventh place in the DRS zone. Rosberg and Hamilton passes Gutierrez later in the lap. On lap 50 Di Resta passes Gutierrez, and then Massa does as well. In the space of two laps the Mexican driver is now out of the points in 12th. Vettel continues to lead Alonso by 11.9 seconds. On lap 52 Raikkonen chases Button in a battle for the last podium spot. Webber closing on Hulkenberg in sixth place. On lap 54 Webber finally passes Hulkenberg and runs sixth. On lap 55 Raikkonen dives down the outside of Button and runs side-by-side, then taking third place from the British driver. Rosberg passes Hulkenberg, while a few places back Di Resta noses into the wall at turn 7 and his day is done. Yellow flags are out. Webber passes Perez and Hamilton passes Hulkenberg. At lap 55 Vettel leads Alonso by 20.0 seconds, followed by Raikkonen (35.9s), Button (42.3s), Webber (42.4s), Perez (45.2s), Rosberg (45.4s), Hamilton (45.8s), Massa (47.7s) and Hulkenberg (48.6s) in tenth place. On lap 56 Webber passes Button for fourth place. Rosberg passes Perez. On lap 57 Rosberg is pushed by his team mate Hamilton, while Massa attacks both. Webber is told to short-shift his Red Bull. On lap 58 Button, on old tyres, is passed by Rosberg for fifth. Hamilton passes Perez. Hamilton passes Button, and Massa passes Perez. On lap 59 Webber is told to use low revs in all gears, the Australian hoping his car will make it to the finish. On lap 60 Rosberg passes Webber. Hamilton passes Webber as well. Smoke comes out of the Red Bull's gearbox. On lap 61 Webber pulls off with flames coming from the Red Bull's gearbox on the last lap. Vettel wins ahead of Alonso and Raikkonen to win the Singapore GP. On the cool down lap Alonso picks up the stranded Webber, and gives him a ride back to the pits. During the podium ceremony Vettel once again hears a sprinkling of boos from the crowd, suggesting that Vettel is winning far too often for their tastes.

The F1 circus continues in two weeks time in South Korea.

Qualifying Time :1:42.841
Pole : Sebastian Vettel
Team Battle : Charles Pic > Duido van der Garde
Grid Pos. Sergio Perez : 14th place

Vettel wins pole in the pits :
Sebastian Vettel coolly claimed his fifth pole position of the season after sitting out the final moments of the top ten shoot-out. Vettel told his team he could find a tenth of a second at most following his first run in Q3, so they kept him back in the garage while his rivals tried in vain to beat his time. Nico Rosberg almost managed to do it – falling short by less than a tenth of a second – while Romain Grosjean claimed third for Lotus.
Q1
With the super-soft tyres offering a performance gain of around two seconds over the mediums there were few teams who believed they could get through to Q2 without using them. Mercedes, who’ve had their fingers burnt in qualifying already this year, chose not to risk it, giving Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton runs on the super-soft tyres. Hamilton set the pace with a 1’44.196. But Red Bull committed to the medium tyre and both their drivers made it through – Webber slightly faster than Vettel, as had usually been the case on the medium tyre during qualifying. Another driver to made the gamble paid off was Romain Grosjean – though he was just 0.3s clear of the drop zone. Team mate Kimi Raikkonen also got into Q2 despite nursing a back injury. Felipe Massa continued to lag some way off team mate Fernando Alonso’s pace. Beginning his final run he was down in 18th place, facing potential elimination. His last effort brought him within half a second of Alonso and secured his place in Q2. It came at the expense of Paul di Resta and Pastor Maldonado. The Williams driver, who qualified on the front row last year, was seven-tenths of a second slower than team mate Valtteri Bottas on his first visit to the circuit .
Q2
Vettel eradicated any doubt about who would be on pole position, lapping eight-tenths of a second faster than any of his rivals could manage in Q2. Just as impressive as his margin over his rivals was the manner in which he achieved it – a clean, error-free tour of Singapore’s two dozen corners and seemingly endless barriers. Behind him the field was closely-matched and produced a few surprises ahead of the top ten shoot-out. Among those who failed to make the cut was Raikkonen, still struggling with his back, who ended up on the wrong end of a close-knit bunch of cars. Also narrowly failing to make the cut was Nico Hulkenberg, who for the first time this year had to watch team mate Esteban Gutierrez reach the final ten instead of him.
Q3
Vettel’s first effort in Q3 looked like an action replay of his Q2 lap and it produced almost the same time – just six-hundredths quicker. It was still sufficient to put him ahead by more than half a second to begin with. Red Bull were confident it was enough to keep him out of reach of his rivals – and Vettel climbed out of the cockpit with two minutes to go while his rivals tried to beat his time.
Rosberg led his challengers, followed by Webber, Hamilton and Grosjean – the only other drivers to join the track at the start of the session. Having been over half a second off Vettel to begin with he came within a tenth of a second of giving Vettel a nasty surprise. “I think he was watching your lap, getting somewhat anxious,” said Ross Brawn. Webber couldn’t move closer to his team mate on the grid as Romain Grosjean clinched third place. Having been slower than Alonso earlier in the session Massa beat his team mate to sixth place, thanks in part to race engineer Rob Smedley explaining where Alonso had found the time he was missing.
Gutierrez elected not to set a time after reaching Q3 for the first time in his career and will start tenth behind Jenson Button and Daniel Ricciardo.

Vettel stays on top in Singapore as Grosjean gains :
Sebastian Vettel topped Free Practice 3 in his Red Bull, but unlike the practice sessions on Friday, FP3 was not a Red Bull runaway. Vettel was only 0.191 seconds faster than Lotus driver Romain Grosjean. Nico Rosberg (Mercedes), Mark Webber (Red Bull) and Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) rounded out the top five. They were the only five drivers to get laps times below 1 minute and 45 seconds. Esteban Gutierrez was the first out on the track in his Sauber . The ambient air temperature at the start of the 60-minute session was 86 degrees Fahrenheit (30 degrees Celsius), and the track temperature was also 93 degrees Fahrenheit (34 degrees Celsius). Charles Pic set the first lap time of the session a leisurely 1:52.954 in his Caterham. Adrian Sutil (Force India) soon lowered that to a 1:51.402. And then Pic's teammate Guido van der Garde clocked a 1:50.792. The fast guys remained in the pits. 15 minutes into the session saw about half the field out on the track. Everybody was running Pirelli's white side-walled medium compound slick
Paul di Resta was the first to break the 1:50 barrier when he turned a 1:49.572 in his Force India. 18 minutes into the session, the Ferrari, Mercedes and Red Bull drivers remained in the pits as Pastor Maldonado set a 1:48.592 in his Williams. Then Daniel Ricciardo, who had complained of brake problems earlier, beat that with a 1:48.001 in his Toro Rosso as Kimi Raikkonen slotted into second after clocking a 1:48.393 in his Lotus. Then Nico Hulkenberg (Sauber) and Bottas (Williams) beat Raikkonen's time but couldn't top Ricciardo. 24 minutes into the session, Vettel and Massa finally ventured out but Alonso and Webber stayed put in the pits. The Romain Grosjean did a 1:46.883 in his Lotus. Mercedes teammates Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg moved into second and third. 31 minutes into the session, Hamilton moved on top with a 1:46.514. The top six halfway through FP3 were: Hamilton, Grosjean, Rosberg, Vettel and McLaren teammates Jenson Button and Sergio Perez. But that order did not remain so for long as Webber turned a 1:46.220. With 25 minutes remaining in the session, Hamilton improved his time to a 1:46.445 and therefore remained in second place. The drivers were still running the medium compound tires and doing long runs. In the race the plan would be to use the mediums for one short stint and the super softs for two stints. But the teams needed to know just how many laps the mediums would last. On Friday the scope had been anywhere from less than a lap to 25 laps. With 22 minutes remaining in the session, Vettel moved into second with a time of 1:46.299. With 17 minutes remaining in the session, the pits started to fill up as the teams prepared the cars for qualifying simulation runs on the super soft Pirellis. With 14 minutes remaining in the session, only four drivers were on the track" Jean-Eric Vergne (Toro Rosso) and Marussia teammates Jules Bianchi and Max Chilton. With 10 minutes remaining in the session, Grosjean and Rosberg got things rolling on the qualifying simulation front. Other drivers soon joined the party. With 6 minutes remaining in the session, Grosjean moved ahead with a 1:44.364. Vettel crossed the line to record a 1:44.173. Others tried but failed to beat that time. So Grosjean was second, Rosberg third, Webber fourth and Hamilton fifth. They were the only drivers below the 1:45 mark. Alonso, Perez, Hulkenberg, Button and Felipe Massa (Ferrari) rounded out the top 10 ..

Red Bull comfortably quickest in second practice :
Sebastian Vettel flew in Singapore. The Red Bull driver was comfortably fastest in Free Practice 2 on Friday night. His teammate Mark Webber wound up second with a time .604 of a second slower. The Mercedes duo of Nico Hulkenberg and Lewis Hamilton were third and fourth and a full second slower than Vettel. Adrian Sutil was the first out in the night as FP2 began at 9:30 p.m. local time. His Force India teammate Paul di Resta was out next. The ambient air temperature at the start of the 90-minute session was 84 degrees Fahrenheit (29 degrees Celsius), and the track temperature was also 86 degrees Fahrenheit (30 degrees Celsius). Sutil also clocked the first flying lap at 1:51.501. Valtteri Bottas (Williams) quickly beat that with a 1:50.057. but Sutil responded with a 1:49.768.
7 minutes into the session, Sergio Perez posted the best time – 1:49.652 – in his McLaren. Nico Rosberg set a 1:48.281 in his Mercedes. Then, 10 minutes into the session, Sebastian Vettel blasted around in his Red Bull to clock a 1:46853 and beat Rosberg's time by a full 1/428 seconds. Rosberg improved to a 1:47.633, and then his teammate Lewis Hamilton moved into second place with a 1:47.166. Mark Webber had only done a couple of laps, but then 15 minutes into the session he did a flyer at 1:46.489 in his Red Bull. The track was getting faster. 20 minutes into the session, Webber now topped the list with a 1:46.157, Vettel was second with a 1:46.408, and Hamilton third with a 1:46.577. Felipe Massa, meanwhile, had a scary moment and just missed sliding his Ferrari into a wall. The drivers were running Pirelli's medium compound slick tires with the white sidewalls. 25 minutes into the session, Daniel Ricciardo became the first driver to try the super soft slicks with the red sidewalls. He had been 15th quickest on the medium tires with a time of 1:49.644, and he jumped up to second with a lap of 1:46.406 More drivers, including Vettel, were now trying the super softs. 35 minutes into the session, he turned a 1:44.249. Then Webber turned a 1:44.853 on the super softs as Fernando Alonso (Ferrari) moved into third with a 1:45.691. 38 minutes into the session, Rosberg took over third place with a 1:45.258. At the midpoint of FP2 the top six were: Vettel, Webber, Rosberg, Hamilton, Romain Grosjean (Lotus) and Fernando Alonso (Ferrari.) Only the two Red Bull drivers were below the 1:45 mark. The Mercedes drivers were a second slower. And the gap from the Red Bulls on top to the Marussias at the back was a whopping 5.4 seconds. 49 minutes into the session, Vettel headed out for another run on the super softs. Webber, Hamilton and Rosberg did the same. The game now was not a single fast lap but long runs to see how long the super softs would last in race conditions with heavy fuel loads. With 30 minutes remaining, the top six remained? Vettel, Webber, Rosberg, Hamilton, Grosjean and Alonso. Jenson Button (McLaren), Kimi Raikkonen (Lotus), Sutil and Perez rounded out the top 10.
As the teams continued to work, Pastor Maldonado provided some entertainment by nosing his Williams into the wall at Turn 13. He selected reverse gear and backed out of trouble and drove back to the pits. With 21 minutes remaining in the session, Maldonado was the only driver not out on the track. With 18 minutes remaining in the session, Maldonado joined the action so all 22 drivers were out there until Grosjean pitted with brake problems. With 15 minutes remaining in the session, Mercedes radioed Hamilton to pit for a change to the medium compound tire. Others including Vettel were also on the mediums as race simulations continued. Grosjean remained the only driver not running on track. With7 minutes remaining in the session, Maldonado slid off again but this time found an escape road and missed the wall. The top 10 at the end of FP2 were: Vettel, Webber, Rosberg, Hamilton, Grosjean, Alonso, Button, Raikkonen, Sutil and Perez.

Hamilton on top as times tumble in Singapore
Lewis Hamilton held the fastest lap time as the sun set over the Marina Bay circuit. Thirty minutes later, with the lights blazing and keeping the circuit in electric daylight, Hamilton was still at the top of the charts in his Mercedes as Free Practice 1 came to an end.
Red Bull‚ Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel were second and third, while Hamilton‚ teammate Nico Rosberg rounded out the top four. Marussia teammates Max Chilton and Jules Bianchi were the first two drivers out onto the 23-turn 3.147-mile (5.065-km) street circuit as FP1 began. The ambient air temperature at the start of the 90-minute session was 88 degrees Fahrenheit (31 degrees Celsius), and the track temperature was also 91 degrees Fahrenheit (33 degrees Celsius). Everybody did an installation lap or two (Daniel Ricciardo did three in the Toro Rosso) and then sat in the pits waiting for somebody else to go out and clean off the dusty streets. 25 minutes into the session, and nobody had set a flying lap. And then Sergio Perez gunned his McLaren down pitlane and headed out. The team radioed him to use lots of brake warm-up and the KERS as well. Caterham teammates Charles Pic and Guido van der Garde joined the party. 30 minutes into the session, Perez clocked the first lap time: 1:53.245. Pic was the next to do a time with a 1:59.152. And then van der Garde turned a 1:57.090. Perez improved to a 1:51.644. 33 minutes into the session, Perez set a 1:50.863. The trio remained the only ones to have clocked times at this stage. Perez then improved to a 1:50.103 only to have Pastor Maldonado beat that with a 1:49.827 in his Williams. 44 minutes into the session, Valtteri Bottas topped the times with a 1:49.510 in his Williams. Halfway through the session the top six were: Bottas, Jenson Button (McLaren), Maldonado, Perez, Kimi Raikkonen (Lotus) and Nico Rosberg (Mercedes.) Things were getting serious now, and Rosberg turned a 1:48.684 only to have Red Bull‚ Mark Webber top that with a 1:48.365. Next, Lewis Hamilton went to the top of the timing screens after posting a 1:47.872 in his Mercedes.
50 minutes into the session, the drivers had been behaving themselves, but Fernando Alonso has a wild moment in his Ferrari and nearly slapped the wall. 55 minutes into the session, Webber was back on top with a 1:47.699. Hamilton responded with a 1:47.055 as Webber improved his own time to a 1:47.420. At the one hour mark, the top six were: Hamilton, Webber, Sebastian Vettel (Red Bull), Rosberg, Raikkonen and Alonso as the sun set. Romain Grosjean, who had completed just one lap in his Lotus, had yet to set a time.
With 27 minutes remaining in the session, Perez slid off the track at Turn 7, spun his McLaren 180 degrees, and rejoined the action.
With 25 minutes remaining in the session, Grosjean finally made it out to do another lap. With 20 minutes remaining in the session, the top six remained unchanged. With 18 minutes remaining in the session, Grosjean moved up to eighth place. Perez was eighth while Jean-Eric Vergne (Toro Rosso), Esteban Gutierrez (Sauber) rounded the top 10. With 12 minutes remaining in the session, Raikkonen slid off at Turn 13, smoked the tires as he spun the Lotus around, and headed back on track. Meanwhile, Grosjean deposed Alonso from sixth place. With 6 minutes remaining in the session 17 cars were on track. With 2 minutes remaining in the session 19 cars were on track. The drivers were pounding out the laps but their lap times were not improving. At the end of FP1 the top 10 were: Hamilton, Webber, Vettel, Rosberg, Raikkonen, Grosjean, Alonso, Perez Vergne and Gutierrez.
