Comment of the 3rd practice session :
Lewis Hamilton stayed top at Monza on Saturday morning, as the McLaren man went fastest in the final free practice session for the Italian Grand Prix. But it was close. The Briton, who was also fastest in free practice two, beat Fernando Alonso to the top spot by just one thousandth of a second as prospects for a close fight for pole continued to grow. Paul di Resta was an impressive third fastest in the Force India, which made news of his gearbox penalty all the more disappointing ahead of qualifying. Hamilton signalled McLaren's intentions early on after the traditional early-session lull, going fastest with a 1m25.508s. Within moments that was challenged first by Sergio Perez in the Sauber, and then Lotus's Kimi Raikkonen. But by the end of his long run on the hard tyres Hamilton had achieved an impressive 1m24.687s - faster than anything recorded yesterday - to establish himself at the top of the times ahead of his team-mate Jenson Button. Just after halfway through the session though Alonso weighed in with his own hard-tyre effort – a 1m24.632s lap – that put him top in the Ferrari, while not long after that Rosberg was the first of the frontrunners to switch to the mediums. The Mercedes driver could only manage third however. Rosberg's team-mate Michael Schumacher, who had been fastest in free practice one, was out of the picture by this stage with yet more reliability issues – this time with his KERS, so the five-time Monza winner instead focused on race set-up. Into the final 10 minutes and most people switched to their low fuel, option tyre runs. Alonso was the first to fire in a time – 1m24.579s – only to see that beaten by 0.001 seconds by Hamilton. And that was the way it stayed, ahead of di Resta and Felipe Massa in the second Ferrari. Button was fifth, having failed to get a clear lap towards the end of the session, and Rosberg sixth.
Perez was seventh quickest in the first of the Saubers ahead of Raikkonen, Nico Hulkenberg (emphasising Force India's pace) and Pastor Maldonado in the Williams.
Sebastian Vettel, who has not been a factor for much of the weekend so far, was 11th fastest and the top Red Bull runner. But he ended the session parked down at the second chicane with a technical issue and reporting a 'low battery'.

This afternoon at 14.00u CET will be the qualification !!!

Kind Regards

Short comment of the 2nd session :
Lewis Hamilton led a McLaren one-two in the second Friday practice session for the Italian Grand Prix at Monza.
As speculation over his future continued to dominate paddock conversation, Hamilton set the pace with a 1m25.290s lap. That time was achieved on the softer of this weekend's Pirelli tyres, as was Spa winner Jenson Button's 1m25.328s lap in second place in the sister McLaren. The Woking squad's move to the front was at the expense of home favourite Ferrari, which had led the way through the middle part of the session.
But despite the speed that saw him on top for a long spell with a 1m25.348s on hard tyres, championship leader Fernando Alonso had a number of problems. First a brake issue required attention, then a gearbox issue curtailed his session.Alonso's time still held up for third, just 0.058 seconds off the pace.
His team-mate Felipe Massa was next up. The Brazilian's only glitch was a vent flying off the top of his helmet at speed. Nico Rosberg completed the top five for Mercedes. His morning practice pace-setting team-mate Michael Schumacher suffered DRS gremlins throughout the afternoon, and was back in 10th.
Kimi Raikkonen was fastest for a while early on and ended up sixth in the lead Lotus.
His one-off team-mate Jerome d'Ambrosio - standing in for the banned Romain Grosjean - was 0.6s slower in 12th. Force India continued its strong Spa form to take seventh and eighth, Nico Hulkenberg ahead of Paul di Resta. Sauber's Sergio Perez was next up. It was a quiet session for champion team Red Bull. Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel were back in 11th and 13th.

Tomorrow ( saturday ) at 11.00u CET will be the 3rd practice session , followed at 14.00u the qualification !

Re: Formula 1 General Chat & Discussion

Hard to bet the right time for tomorrows qualifying. Confused
Only a marginal difference in laptime between this year Pirelli Hard and Medium tyres in 2nd free practice.

Last years pole 1:22:275 will be impossible this year. Big Grin

In the long runs with a lot of fuel Schumi best laptimes. Smile
Good sign for sunday. Cool

Re: Formula 1 General Chat & Discussion

Italian GP – 63° edition – Autodromo di Monza
It is one of the oldest race tracks in the world. The circuit was built in 1922. Ninety years ago. Monza has hosted the F1 Italian Grand Prix for every year, except one, since 1950. Only in 1980 the Italian Gran Prix was held at Imola(autodromo Dino e Enzo Ferrari, Santerno circuit). However, in the years following Imola hosted the San Marino Grand Prix, until 2006. No track in the world hosted more GP of Formula One than Monza and all the greatest champions in history have going on here. During its long history, this track has experienced exciting challenges, but also awful tragedies. Monza is the fastest circuit of the season with the highest average speeds per lap. Formula 1 engines аre аt full throttle fоr nearly 80% оf the lap. For the Italian Grand Prix is important reduce drag and increase the speeds down the straights, so at Monza the cars have the lowest downforce package of the season. The brakes are also severely tested. This circuit has changed its layout many times over the years and some chicanes(variante del Rettilineo, variante della Roggia and variante Ascari) were added for safety reason. In 1971 without these 3 chicanes, the average race speed was more than 240 km/h. and more than 250 km/h during the qualifying. Famous corners: Curva Grande(Biassono) where last year Vettel made an incredible overtaking; Lesmo(two corners fast an difficult) and above all the Parabolica one of the fastest turns in F1. It is a long right-hand turn and gradually increasing radius. The Parabolica is the final corner before the legendary main straight and a good execution with maximum exit speed is very important for a quick lap. In 2008 Vettel won at Monza his first GP, after a masterful week end in slippery conditions, driving a Toro Rosso. the only one win for a Ferrari engine in a customer chassis. For this race Pirelli has repeated the same tyre choice made last week at Spa Francorchamps: Silver hard(prime) and White medium(option). There will be two DRS zones, one on the main straight and the other from the second Lesmo to Ascari.
Podium 2011: Vettel – Button – Alonso. fastest lap on race: Hamilton – pole position : Vettel 1'22''275
Podium 2010: Alonso – Button – Massa. fastest lap on race: Alonso – pole position : Alonso 1'21''962
victories for current pilots: Schumacher(5) Alonso and Vettel (2).
Best finish: Raikkonen, Button and Hamilton(second place); Webber: never on podium
pole position for current pilots: Schumacher(3), Alonso and Vettel (2) Raikkonen and Hamilton, (1)
Never in pole Webber.
fastest lap for current pilots: Raikkonen(3) Schumacher and Alonso (2), Hamilton (1)

Re: Formula 1 General Chat & Discussion

Maybe someone will think I'm speaking ironically, but I'm very serious on this. Today Alonso has been very lucky. He lost points, but he has saved his integrity in a very dangerous accident.

And I think there are still some drivers that believe they are doing the race start with a PlayStation.

Perfect Jenson today.
