Re: Formula 1 General Chat & Discussion

the story of formula1Big Grin

Formula 1 has its roots in motor racing of late nineteenth century, they began to assume the status of a Grand Prix since 1906 . In the twenties , there was the first serious regulation of races, known as " Formula Grand Prix ", and was adopted primarily in Europe. This regulation was the basis of three editions of the World Constructors Championship (won by Alfa Romeo in 1925, the Bugatti and Delage in 1926 in 1927), two editions of "International Championship" (in 1931's victory Minoia Alfa, and in 1932 won by Nuvolari Alfa) and the five editions of a "European Championship Grand Prix" (1935 to 1939) dominated by pilots and German cars.
In 1946 he was baptized with the name "Formula A", with which they were played a first set of races is not valid for the title. Were allowed to race two types of engines: the 1.5 liter supercharged and naturally aspirated 4.5-liter. Whereas in the years before World War II , were allowed only supercharged any capacity until 1938 , then there was the limitation to 3.0 liters. The first race with this new regulation took place on 1 September 1946 in Turin , the Turin Grand Prix on the circuit Valentine's namesake park , which was won by Achille Varzi driving a Alfa Romeo 158 . Two days later, on the same track is played the "Coppa Brezzi," during which Tazio Nuvolari at the wheel of the debutante Cisitalia D46 wowed the audience by taking a few laps without steering wheel (which was broken), clinging to the steering column . Turin The House also prepared a revolutionary rear-engine car of 1,500 cc turbocharged, designed by Ferdinand Porsche , who was credited with the astounding speed of 350 km / h [1] ; with it, stroked the great Tazio's dream to participate in the World Championship auto racing, which began to speak in 1947 . The following year (1948) the name of the formula was changed with the current one because of the birth of Formula 2 . In 1949 they were chosen from seven races valid for the award of the trophy. Meanwhile, the circuit was dead Varzi and Nuvolari Berne, sick, was unable to get back on track, and Cisitalia foundered on the adventure of a lack of funds. Appeared on the scene in 1950 many new names, which took place before the war axes. To get ready to exhibit was Juan Manuel Fangio , who won on April 10 Maserati Gran Prix of Pau .
A month later he raced the first race valid for the championship, the Grand Prix of Great Britain in 1950 . At the drivers' championship title for constructors followed in 1958 .
For the first two years the race for Formula One cars have not been in an organized league . But he immediately took the name " grand prix "and have had international importance (they were organized in various countries of ' Europe ). In 1950 was organized the first World Championship Formula One , so named even though in fact took place at European level (the calendar was inserted in the Indianapolis 500 , but none of the riders and teams involved in other races of the World competed) .
Over the decades were also organized at the national championships for Formula One cars (such as the South African and British Formula One Series which ran between 1978 and 1982 in the United Kingdom ) and were held until 1983 many GPs are not valid for a championship. Currently however, the only Formula One cars competing in the World Championship, organized annually by the International Automobile Federation, also Disputatio from 1950 to today and unanimously considered the ultimate expression of ' motoring modern.
Every decade has had its appearance quite accurate: in the fifties dominated the front-engined car, in the sixties the rear engine, without wings, in the seventies but had a great development of the aerodynamics of Formula 1 car ; The eighties were characterized by the turbo, the nineties electronics, two thousand years of the competition between the major car manufacturers.

Re: Formula 1 General Chat & Discussion

spa francorchamps the next gp circuit
a bit of historyBig Grin

The circuit of Spa-Francorchamps is the oldest and most famous track car of Belgium . Located near Francorchamps , a town in the municipality of Stavelot the borders of municipalities of Spa in the Ardennes . The circuit hosts the Belgian Grand Prix of Formula 1 , whose first edition was held in 1924 , and also the 24 Hours of Spa and other races on the international calendar.

The history of the circuit of Spa-Francorchamps is long and fascinating, but at first the track was completely different than the current version.

The original configuration of the track, the Ancienne Douane and bend to place a cross in the village of Stavelot
The Belgian track begins its activities in the early '20s and is derived by combining, designed by Jules de Their, owner of the newspaper "La Meuse", and the chairman of RACB (Royal Automobile Club Belgium) Henri Langlois Van Ophem [2 ] , the three highways linking the towns of Malmedy , Stavelot and Francorchamps . The first race took place on the track which took place in 1922 and in 1924 took place the first 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps , in 1925 and raced at Spa for the first time the cars of Formula Grand Prix [2] .
Idea of the organizers was a triangular course of about 14 km , the longest of the international calendar, and at the same time because of the long straights and challenging one of the fastest. A track where the samples were the difference, especially after the changes to the route of the late 30 operations designed to make it one of the fastest tracks in Europe [2] , where among other things, was bypassed the slow and convoluted section of ' Ancienne Douane through a combination of fast bends and steep uphill right-left (in 240-meter track faces an altitude of 24 meters [3] ) that would become one of the most famous curves of ' motor racing world, the Raidillon [ 2] [4] (in French: steep climb), which is known to the general public of fans along the left-hand corner post in the valley of ' Eau Rouge (Red Water, named after the river that flows under the curve) [3 ] and that you enter, forming the section Eau Rouge-Raidillon which is frequently and erroneously [4] simply called Eau Rouge .
The Raidillon curve is not the only "artificial" nature trail created in this: after the Second World War , continuing in their efforts to make it the fastest circuit in Europe, the organizers decided to by-pass the "bend of Stavelot ", placed at an intersection on the edge of the town of Stavelot [5] immediately after the fold of Holowell , a fast left-right sequence at the end of the second leg of the Masta straight [6] . They realized then in 1947 a link road connecting that was born at the end of the short stretch in the middle instead of right-left Holowell with it to form a single high-speed corners and slightly elevated, which was connected to the original route about three hundred meters after the "hairpin of Stavelot ", thus reducing the total length of the circuit of about 600 meters.
After the Second World War , the track began to host the baby Formula 1 World Championship , becoming one of the most important test beds for the highest category of automobile drivers. In fact, the majority of curves were real challenges around every absurd speeds, which resulted in the striking difference between the pilots and the average samples. Besides the above mentioned Raidillon Eau Rouge and Stavelot made history as the old curves Malmedy , the chicane Masta or Blanchimont . The high averages were obviously great source of risk for drivers and bikers, just because of its danger, Spa was the scene of several accidents, often fatal. In the second half of the 60 track was adequate, as far as possible on a track normally used for ordinary traffic, the new safety standards, but this was not enough to appease the demands of Formula 1 drivers, with the advent of ailerons were faced with very high cornering. So, after the edition of 1970 , under pressure from the union's pilots led by Jackie Stewart , it was decided to transfer the trial to Belgian World Nivelles first and Zolder later. Meanwhile, the circuit of Spa-Francorchamps continued to host other major automobile categories ( prototypes and touring cars of all) and the World Championship
The combination of the Eau Rouge-Raidillon new track
In the late '70s the direction of the circuit decided to build a new semi-permanent track, which continued to use the features of the ordinary roads curve Blanchimont until the end of the straight of Kemmel , joined by the old hairpin de La Source , and a new Permanent link road connecting the other two remaining ends of the old track (which still exists as part of the road ordinary roads).
Comparison between the track and the track of the war renewed in the seventies
The new track just under 7 km long was then opened at the end of 1979 , with the aim of bringing in the Ardennes the Belgian Grand Prix . In 1980 he was also inserted a new double chicane called Bus Stop , since it is located near a bus stop of bus line between the curve and Blanchimont La Source hairpin. In those same years, new pits were built for Formula 1 just before the latter curve, a result of the creation of a starting line for the top category of motor car whose regulations, meanwhile, demanded that the area of the circuits departure was located in the plane (the requirement that the old pit straight at Spa, which is still in use for other categories did not have).
The Belgian GP at Spa-Francorchamps as he returned in 1983 and then permanently by 1985 .
Further modifications were made to the track over the years: in 1994 , in the wake of the fatal accidents of Roland Ratzenberger and Ayrton Senna (and only for that year, as the following year was expanded to escape), the input of Raidillon was strongly slowed down for safety reasons, while the input box was anticipated before the chicane bus stop. Chicane which was modified in 2002 for what concerns the output (even changes that moved the entrance to the pit), and in 2004 for what concerns the entry.
Top view of the track
In recent years also have been expanded and renovated many escape routes (in particular that of Raidillon , where he died in 1985 Stefan Bellof ), has been moved out of the old box and also thanks to the construction of a new highway that runs around the circuit, the track is not used for ordinary traffic and has become in effect a permanent path.
For 2007 the Bus Stop chicane was changed again. The changes (which, not having been timely, have prevented the circuit to be part of the calendar in 2006 ) have also affected the Source hairpin, resulting in lengthening of the starting straight, and the complete renovation of the building of the pits, paddock and main grandstand on the starting straight [7] . These changes have slightly lengthened the path, which is now 7.004 km long. Spa-Francorchamps today continues to be one of the most beautiful tracks on the calendar, a circuit that, thanks to the bizarre weather of the time, has always given the spectacular Grand Prix. The rider who has won more times is the German Michael Schumacher .
In addition to Formula 1, the circuit currently hosts all the major categories and is the seat of the car 24 hours of Spa , one of the most famous endurance races in the world, previously reserved for touring cars and a few years to those coaches, as well to host the 1000 km of Spa , the race for sports cars with a long tradition.

Ferrari V4 Motorcycle Concept: If Tron Were a City in Italy
We try not to tease you with concepts too often, but this Ferrari V4 superbike by Israeli industrial designer Amir Glinik is just too beautiful to pass up. Packed with a modified engine from a Ferrari Enzo, hand controls from a F-16 fighter jet and buttons from a Formula 1 race car, there's not much in the world of badass that hasn't been centrifuged into the design. Under the hood:

Full size
"As far as how fast it goes and how much the bike would cost, we can only speculate about very big numbers in both cases," Glinik says. Cold, Glinik. Cold. [Industrial & Art via Luxist]
