And the latest on this :
An FIA statement read: The Stewards received a report from the Race Director that car 1 failed to return to the pits under its own power as required under Article 6.6.2 of the FIA Formula One Technical Regulations. The Stewards heard from the driver and team representatives and studied telemetry evidence that showed the reason why the car was stopped. The Stewards accepted the explanation and considered the incident as being a case of force majeure. ...However a report was received from the Technical Delegate that showed during post-qualifying scrutineering an insufficient quantity of fuel for sampling purposes. The Stewards determine that this is a breach of Article 6.6.2 of the FIA Formula One Technical Regulations and the Competitor is accordingly excluded from the results of the Qualifying Session. The Competitor is however allowed to start the race from the back of the grid. Kind Regards Shaky-Schumi |

The report from the FIA :
Technical Report At the end of the 3rd qualifying practice session today car number 01,driver Sebastian Vettel ,stopped on the circuit between turns 18 and 19 . It was checked wheter car number 01 had enough fuel on board in order to be driven back to the pits under it's own power and in addition to this that a one liter fuel sample may be taken. The car had 850 ml fuel on board wich is not enough for the required one liter fuelsample . As this is not in compliance with Article 6.6.2 of the 2012 Formula One Sporting Regulations ,I am referring this matter to the stewards for there consideration . The FIA Formula 1 Technical Delegate Jo Bauer So this means that Vettel wil have to start from the back at place 24 , like it happend with Hamilton after the qualifying in Spain ! For the Championship can this get interesting Kind Regards Shaky-Schumi |

Vettel disqualified from Qualifying
he will be starting from the back of the grid for tomorrow’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix he parked his Red Bull on track at the end of qualifying but F1 regulations stipulate that pilots must return to the pits after qualifying to provide a one-litre fuel sample, but the stewards said Vettel's car had "insufficient fuel" for that. as Hamilton in Barcellona |

Narain Karthikeyan : HRT F1 Team : 1:46.382 + 5.752 Comment of the qulifying : Lewis Hamilton halted Red Bull's run of qualifying dominance with a commanding run to pole position for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. It was a disappointing qualifying session for both Formula 1's title contenders, with Sebastian Vettel only third behind Red Bull team-mate Mark Webber - but far better off than his Ferrari rival Fernando Alonso, who lines up only seventh. McLaren driver Hamilton had been quickest in two of the three Yas Marina practice sessions, led Q1 and Q2, then produced a 1m40.630s early in Q3 to immediately put himself 0.4 seconds clear of his opposition. A second pole shot might have been faster still, but once it became clear that Hamilton's rivals had no answer to his pace, the Briton backed off and pitted. Webber's 1m40.978s pushed Vettel off the front row. The points leader, hampered by a substantial loss of practice mileage, had pushed hard throughout qualifying - brushing a barrier in Q1, flying over kerbs in Q2, and then stopping on track after his unsuccessful final flying lap in Q3. Pastor Maldonado delivered the strong Williams qualifying result he had promised by grabbing fourth on the grid. Kimi Raikkonen improved to fifth for Lotus on his second Q3 run, with Jenson Button making similar gains to take sixth. Button had been as low as ninth at one stage, but a five-place and 0.6s gap to McLaren team-mate Hamilton will not please the 2009 champion. Alonso held fourth after the early Q3 runs, only to be shoved down to a potentially costly seventh as others improved. His team-mate Felipe Massa starts ninth, ahead of Romain Grosjean's Lotus. Nico Rosberg made just one run in Q3 and initially held fifth, before falling to eighth when his rivals came out again. Rosberg's performance was a boost for Mercedes on what had looked like being another disappointing weekend. His team-mate Michael Schumacher was only 14th, amid mutual apologies from team to driver over the radio. Force India and Sauber could not reach the top 10 this time. Nico Hulkenberg and Sergio Perez filled row six, with Paul di Resta 13th in his new chassis and Kamui Kobayashi six tenths down on Perez in 16th after locking up on his last lap. Bruno Senna's run of tepid qualifying performances continued with 15th, 0.4s slower than Williams team-mate Maldonado in Q2. Having appeared to conquer his qualifying problems in the summer, Jean-Eric Vergne notched up his second straight Q1 exit - and his eighth of the year - in Abu Dhabi. The recently re-signed Toro Rosso driver was on course to make the cut before spinning. He pushed on for another lap, but his abused tyres had no more pace to offer. Vergne's team-mate Daniel Ricciardo brought up the rear of the Q2 field in 17th. Marussia pushed Caterham hard in the battle at the tail of the field. Although Heikki Kovalainen emerged in front again, he was only a tenth ahead of Charles Pic. Vitaly Petrov was right in the fight in the second Caterham too, but Timo Glock was puzzled by a relative lack of speed from his Marussia as he beat only the back-row dwelling HRTs. Narain Karthikeyan : HRT F1 Team : 1:47.032 + 4.902 Comment of the session : McLaren headed the final practice session in Abu Dhabi with almost half a second in hand over Red Bull. But Sebastian Vettel only managed a single flying lap after missing much of the 60 minutes due to a braking problem. Lewis Hamilton set a string of laps and comfortably headed the times early in the session. As was the case on Friday, McLaren were comfortably quickest on medium tyres, Hamilton over a second quicker than the next non-McLaren. That was Romain Grosjean’s Lotus, who was 1.113s slower than Hamilton but had visible damage on his front-right tyre from a lock-up when he was pushed back into the pits. Vettel spent much of the session in the pits. After taking to the track for his first run he returned to the garage where the Red Bull mechanics went to work on his brakes. Hamilton only managed to improve his time by 0.018s after switching to the soft tyres. He missed an opportunity to set another timed lap as the chequered flag came out before he could begin one. “I wish you’d told me earlier,” he said to his engineer. Even so Hamilton ended up quickest ahead of his team mate. Vettel’s single flying lap was good enough to put him third ahead of team mate Mark Webber. Nico Hulkenberg was fifth for Force India ahead of Romain Grosjean and Pastor Maldonado. For the second day running Ferrari had broken the curfew as they worked on their car. Fernando Alonso ended the session in eighth place, one second slower than Hamilton. Kimi Raikkonen and Paul di Resta completed the top ten. Kind Regards Shaky-Schumi |

Vitaly Petrov : Caterham : 1:45.245 + 3.494 20. Heikki Kovalainen : Caterham : 1:45.782 + 4.031 21. Timo Glock : Marussia F1 Team : 1:46.589 + 4.838 22. Charles Pic : Marussia F1 Team : 1:46.671 + 4.920 23. Pedro de la Rosa : HRT F1 Team : 1:46.707 + 4.956 24. Narain Karthikeyan : HRT F1 Team : 1:47.706 + 5.955 Comment of the session : Sebastian Vettel redressed the balance in the second free practice session for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix as he used his early laps on Pirelli's soft tyre to set the pace ahead of McLaren's Lewis Hamilton. Hamilton has only ever started on the front row in Abu Dhabi and also won last year's race and started on pole for the inaugural event in 2009. But in the end it was the world champion, on a mighty roll at the moment and seeking his fifth consecutive win, who came out on top of a mini duel in the second 90 minutes of running on Friday. Jenson Button was third, confirming that McLaren could be a problematic threat to Ferrari's championship challenge this weekend, while Mark Webber was fourth amid more reliability issues. Vettel's chief championship rival Fernando Alonso was only seventh fastest, some 0.8s away from the ultimate pace. The two Saubers were the first cars on the significantly cooler track - temperatures having dropped noticeably since the first session – and while Sergio Perez set an early marker of 1m45.819s, it didn't stand for long as first Kimi Raikkonen posted a 1m44.503s and then Vettel a 1m43.323s. The Red Bull then immediately posted a 1m43.067s on the next lap. With only 10 minutes gone, most of the field had already ventured on track, and all of them on Pirelli's mediums – this weekend's prime selection. Vettel kept improving too as he then posted a 1m42.730s. He needed to, as Button emerged from the pits on all cylinders and fired in a 1m42.804s in the McLaren. That duo then pitted and out came Hamilton, who also could not match Vettel, but got within 0.06s of the Red Bull. He got even closer on the second lap (0.047s). Hamilton persevered, in spite of suggestions from his team that he should pop in for a set-up change, and kept banging in the laps. On his tenth attempt he finally moved to the front with a 1m42.095s as McLaren, just as it did in P1, looked a match for Red Bull. That lap changed the game a bit, and while Button and then Vettel both improved again, neither was within half a second of the 2008 world champion. Around half distance most switched to the soft tyres, but that didn't change the order much. Once he did get heat into the tyres though, Vettel suddenly found a bunch of time and went fastest on a 1m42.056s lap. And that wasn't all as he went faster still when the tyres zeroed in, this time setting a 1m41.751s. Hamilton though was still in play, and he lobbed in a 1m41.919s as if to remind Vettel to stay on his toes, but in the end he ran out of time before the soft-tyre long runs became a priority. After that, Vettel's time was safe. Vettel worked down from the low-49s into the mid-48s during his long runs, while McLaren and Alonso's Ferrari were quicker, though as ever, fuel levels made it impossible to evaluate. During this period Hamilton radioed in to inform McLaren that he was suffering a recurrence of the steering wheel issues he had in the Indian race last weekend. He was told to stay out and later was informed that he was the quickest of all through the long runs. Ferrari's world championship aspirations must have fluttered with concern after its drivers Alonso and Felipe Massa could manage only seventh and eighth. Pastor Maldonado was ninth and Perez tenth. There were several spins and incidents, most notable of which were those of Vitaly Petrov, who rotated at Turn 8 on an in-lap and Narain Karthikeyan at the Turn 17 chicane. Giedo van der Garde : Caterham : no time set Comment of this session : Lewis Hamilton headed Jenson Button as McLaren dominated the first free practice session for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on Friday morning. Hamilton set his table-topping 1m43.285s lap with 25 of the 90 minutes remaining, and beat his countryman and team-mate by 0.333s, with title protagonists Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso third and fourth. More than 35 minutes had elapsed when most of the drivers took to the track, surface temperatures having exceeded 45 degrees Celsius by that point. Jean-Eric Vergne set the initial pace, and brought his marker down from 1m48.9s to 1m46.6s before Valtteri Bottas, Michael Schumacher and Alonso took turns at the top, the latter in 1m45.1s with 50 minutes gone. Championship leader Vettel was the first driver to break into the 1m44s shortly afterwards, but his spell at the top lasted less than a minute as Hamilton took a lead he would not relinquish. Button improved his time before the end of the session as Hamilton experimented with a number of different fuel settings during the final half-hour. Vettel ended up third, despite the double world champion running wide at Turn 16 after getting his Red Bull crossed up on the kerb at the corner's entry. Ferrari driver Alonso, who had dropped to sixth, set his best time in the final minute of the session to climb back up to fourth, ahead of Mark Webber in the second Red Bull and Michael Schumacher's Mercedes. Pastor Maldonado and Nico Rosberg completed the top eight while Bottas was the best of the test drivers in action in his Williams. He was ninth overall, ahead of Kimi Raikkonen's Lotus. Sauber driver Sergio Perez had a scary moment at the pit entrance with 12 minutes to go. Attempting to simulate a full-speed, race entry, the Mexican ran wide as he turned right and was forced to drive over the run-off area and back onto the race track to avoid contact with the barrier. Heikki Kovalainen was the only one of the Caterham drivers to set a time as Giedo van der Garde spent the session in the garage as his team tried to rectify an engine installation issue. Marussia's Max Chilton did get out though, to undertake a series of aero tests in his maiden F1 practice outing. His team-mate Timo Glock, 20th, suffered a series of lock-ups and wide moments. He lost a potentially strong laptime with 25 minutes left when he was impeded by Schumacher's Mercedes under braking for the left-hander at the end of the main straight. He communicated his annoyance with a waved hand, but immediately saw Schumacher pull off the track and gesturing a wave of his own in the Marussia's direction by way of apology. Abu Dhabi Grand Prix – Yas Marina circuit – 4° edition
In my opinion the worst circuit of the season. I can understand that in Singapore is difficult to create a good track because it is a street circuit but in the middle of the desert you have unlimited possibility of choice. You can copy famous curves of other tracks like Spa or Suzuka; instead nothing. Again long straights and slow curves often even at 90 degrees. There are two extremely long straights divided by a tight chicane with heavy braking zones, and then in the last sector, a sequence of 90 degree bends(left- and right-hand), where you need a good traction and stability under braking. The race starts in the late afternoon and arrives under floodlights after the sunsets so the track temperature falls during the GP. Yas Marina is one of very few circuit on the F1 calendar that runs in an anti-clockwise direction. Overtaking is very difficult and for this reason, two years ago Alonso has lost in an incredible way the world championship after a race managed badly from Ferrari's box. Like in Bahrain, there is a fine covering of dust on the track surface. The circuits in the desert are nothing new. Even before the Second World War there was a very fast track near Tripoli(Lybia), the Mellaha circuit. In 1935, for the Tripoli Gran Prix, famous for its prize pool, there were no weight limits for cars(the free Formula) and Scuderia Alfa Romeo(team manager Enzo Ferrari) participated in the race with 3 powerful cars: “Bimotore” that means powered by two engines, (3165 ccm each one = 6330 ccm, sixteen-cylinder). This car had a huge power but was also very heavy (more than 1000 kg of weight without fuel); another big issue was the instability of the car and the high fuel consumption. On the long straights Nuvolari at the wheel of his Alfa Romeo was very fast and able to pass the other pilots but the huge tyre wear, forced him to make 13(thirteen)pit stops to change tires. At the end won Rudy Caracciola (Mercedes w25), second Achille Varzi(Auto Union type B). The Alfa Romeo Bimotore will participate only to another GP, at AVUS in the same year. We return to nowadays. Tyres: Pirelli have decided to bring for this GP: tyres medium “white” (prime) and tyres soft “yellow” (option) A combination widely used this year. As in India we'll have two distinct DRS zones. Podium 2009: Vettel – Webber – Button. Fastest lap on race: Vettel – pole position : Hamilton 1'40''948 Podium 2010: Vettel – Hamilton – Button. Fastest lap on race: Hamilton – pole position : Vettel 1'39''394 Podium 2011: Hamilton – Alonso – Button. fastest lap on race: Webber – pole position : Vettel 1'38''481 in the previous three editions Button always on the podium and always third |
