Re: Megaupload & Other File Host Problems

I've been told things could be more difficult as they seemed.
It seemed Megaupload admins have been charged of tempted extortion and money laundering (someone said drugs traficking too), I haven't got yet evidences about it, but I've been told that it has been stated on FBI order (I still haven't found it).

Megaupload.com Closed

McLEAN, Va. – Federal prosecutors have shut down one of the world's largest file-sharing sites, Megaupload.com, on charges of violating piracy laws -- a day after a 24-hour blackout of popular websites such as Wikipedia drew national attention to the issue.
"This action is among the largest criminal copyright cases ever brought by the United States," the Justice department said in a statement about the indictment.

Re: Megaupload & Other File Host Problems

Well, maybe I'm the only one, but I like this action and I hope it will lead to convictions.
Why?
Because it sets a precedence.
If they manage to get this through courts, every CEO will be liable for illegal activity carried out with their products.
Do weapons manufactureres know that their products are used for murder? Yes. So they'll be liable.
Do car manufacturers know that their products are used for escape from bank robberies, drug transport or whatever? Yes. So they're liable.
Does the US president know his troups are involved in war crimes? Yes. So he is liable.
This case is gonna construct precedence unless they manage to prove that MU is predominantly designed to support illegal activity.
I hope MU has no internal documents hinting in that direction ...

Re: Mega Upload Shut Down

Because some of MUs servers are in the US, so MU is breaking US law in the US. Simple, isn't it?

Mega Upload Shut Down

For those wondering why they cannot access any of the MegaUpload files, the site has been shut down.

[Versteckter Link - Registrierung notwendig]

I don't see why US laws should affect the rest of the world, why can't they just block the sites in their own country and countries cooperating with this decision? I don't understand why they can shut down a company which isn't even founded or based in their country. Anyway, this has come at a great loss of data for this site.
