.. I am still going to. I looked on in bewilderment at last nights offering. It was not about content (it never will be) - there is always a market for a predominently 'soft' show. This was all about delivery. During my recent travel I met a person who held a responsiblitity to get the studio lights right. For making sure that the cameras had a fair chance to providing a proper exposed image and in as true a colour that is possible. I do not know when he finished but since then the whole delivery is ' so what's this button for ? if it works then great but if it does not then do not blame me cos I have not been shown how to use this properly" So what wonders were before our eyes last night ? 1. A camera that had too much red that when the lights went down you could not see faces. Ok they manged to fix that within 10 minutes 2. A camera with too much yellow so that the chairs turned into green and the cast looked as if they belonged to a Charlie Chanmovie. Did they actually fix that I doubt it. There is a rumour that in the control room there sits a guy who sees all these images. There is equally a rumour that the camera persons wear their headsets to communicate with the control room and not listen to the latest clubland hits. So it must equally be true that the guy in the room also has no idea what the correct colour should be. It may well be a good idea if all these people, on their way in, take a quick look at studio with their own eyes and not just through view-finders and monitors. If they still cannot tell the difference then they really are in the wrong job. But we know that already. |
