New UK Adult TV Petition

Absurd isnt it? The regulator says that as an advert for a sex channel it has content. The public attitude survey a few years back found that this kind of freeview was as acceptable to their sample group (including penioners) as mainstream BBC drama with sex scenes. The channel is clearly labelled, there are no surprises, it was late at night and the channel could be blocked. The regulator inferred that as an advert it served a clear purpose other than sexual arousal. They didnt have the nerve to show a clip from a free babe show. The rules say that if exactly the same content were shown on a free channel for fun (instead of in a free clip on a pay channel) it would result in a ban or a heavy fine.

Meanwhile reputable public sector broadcasters can show Saw and Hostel without any restrictions from 10pm. Female wrestling can be seen in the afternoon. Female boxing is shown occasionally. Then theres cages fighting.

Presenters on babe channels arent even allowed to use sexy language or gestures. Meanwhile I have book marked Geordie Shore for tomorrow night (MTV 11pm). (For those of you innocents out their, its a reality show featuring people talking about vomiting over themselves, passing out on the lav and generally behaving in, er, interesting ways. And thats just the women.)

Thanks to everyone who has voted and confirmed the email. Its up to 179 votes, 16th on the Dept of Culture Sport and Media page. Thats good but it wont make MPs sit up and take notice. Also it is 3 votes behind a petition to give the regulator more power,effectively ending press press in the UK. Any publicity on other media or social networking would be much appreciated. Its about freedom to show sexual content with reasonable protection for kids and the easily offended but its also about freedom and curbing an out of control TV regulator.

I doubt if this petition will have any impact but I guess it's the only thing UK citizens who want to decide for themselves what to watch can do.

I do know for a fact that the babechannels themselves are probably one of the main sources of complaints, targetting the competition. From a very reliable source I know that elite for example has been recording the other channels and has been ratting them out to ofcom when the rules were broken. I'm sure they got the same love from the other channels though as they are now one of ofcom's favorite targets and they had to tame down to sleep inducing levels to prevent trouble.

So it's dirty politics all over the place in the UK , the only thing that isn't dirty are the shows. Crazy victorians.
