The third and final day of the second pre-season MotoGP Test at the Sepang International Circuit concluded on Thursday with Casey Stoner leading the times. The Repsol Honda rider posted a 2’00.473 in the morning; an effort that registered the best time of the entire Test though was 0.8s off his best effort from the first pre-season Test at the same track.
Dani Pedrosa trailed his team-mate by 0.175s as the Spanish rider focused his efforts on chassis modifications to improve stability under braking and reduce front end chatter. Andrea Dovizioso was three tenths from Stoner with a time of 2’00.802 on his Tech 3 machine as the Italian continues to make big strides on the Yamaha. Yamaha Factory Racing’s Jorge Lorenzo was fourth quickest and ended his day with a race simulation that revealed the more powerful 1000cc bikes will require careful tyre management. The 2010 World Champion reported that the new soft Bridgestones lost their grip early in the simulation making braking more difficult due to sliding. The Spaniard also reported that the electronics improvements made during this test made corner entry easier and smoothed out the YZR-M1 overall. 1. Spies narrowly fastest on second day of testing at Sepang
Yamaha factory rider Ben Spies has brought the fastest time on the clock at the second day of testing at Sepang. With a 2.01.285, the American was eight thousandths quicker than team-mate Jorge Lorenzo. Honda did not come to action. The team was faced with a problem with the power that had to be examined first.After the team of the factory in Japan had been told that it was not a serious defect and there just could be tested again, it rained, and Honda decided not to come out for the rest of the day . Spies told the second day of the week: "We had to deal with rain again, but fortunately for us all the important things done where done before lunch. We also went out with the motor to drive in the rain. I had not earlier driven a wet Sepang , so that was useful to do. the bike felt immediately comfortable in the rain, so that's positive. we still have have a lot of things to do tomorrow , so let's hope it remains dry all day " . Reigning world champion Casey Stoner has put down the fastest time during the first day of testing at the Sepang circuit. The factory Honda rider went around in a 2.01.761, which he spent over two tenths faster than stable mate Dani Pedrosa. Yamaha riders Jorge Lorenzo and Ben Spies were third and fourth.
