Nico Rosberg stays on top in wet second practice :
Nico Rosberg kept Mercedes at the top of the timesheets in a second wet Friday practice session for the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Heavy rain before the start of the session left the Interlagos track saturated, contributing to a general dearth of action that prevailed until a frantic final 10 minutes. The initial situation was exacerbated as the rain abated and conditions entered the uncertain window between wets and intermediates, with those who did venture out being warned about overheating problems on their wets. Such circumstances meant that only six drivers set a time over the opening half hour, while seven drivers - among them Sebastian Vettel, Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton - still had to set a time at the hour mark. For a long while Rosberg's early 1m28.873s was therefore good enough for top spot, but Alonso helped breathe life into the session when he headed out on intermediates 20 minutes from the end and immediately went third. That provided the encouragement for Felipe Massa, Vettel, Hamilton and the rest of the pack to also emerge on intermediates, with times tumbling as a result. Sebastian Vettel kicked off the surge when he demoted Rosberg with a 1m27.993s, at the time seven tenths clear of the field. He extended that advantage further, while behind him Webber also improved to move into second and complete a Red Bull one-two two minutes from the end. Rosberg still had time to respond however, and duly disrupted the Red Bull party by reclaiming top spot with a 1m27.306s. That was more than 0.8s clear of team-mate Hamilton, who clinched fifth on his final flyer. The Briton had earlier spun in the treacherous conditions. Heikki Kovalainen's Lotus split Hamilton and the two Red Bulls. Jean-Eric Vergne put his Toro Rosso sixth, fractions ahead of Ferrari's departing Felipe Massa and Sauber's Nico Hulkenberg. Daniel Ricciardo and Romain Grosjean completed the top 10, ahead of Alonso, Esteban Gutierrez and Paul di Resta, back in the Force India after James Calado took over driving duties for first practice.

Nico Rosberg leads Mercedes one-two in damp practice:
Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton handed Mercedes a one-two in a rain-hit first practice session for Formula 1's season-ending Brazilian Grand Prix. A late surge lifted Sebastien Vettel to third ahead of McLaren's Jenson Button, Ferrari's Fernando Alonso and Vettel's Red Bull team-mate Mark Webber. The Red Bull duo had spent much of the session in the garage or on single-lap data runs, but both improved in the final 20 minutes. Conditions largely dictated the order, with the first half hour proving the optimal time to run before rain returned and times consequently dropped significantly. Rosberg epitomised that trend, setting an early 1m24.781s benchmark that would remain unbeaten for the remainder of the 90 minutes. Hamilton moved into second moments later, just over four tenths of a second down on his team-mate. Both men had moments even as they set their fastest times however: Rosberg went too deep into the Senna S immediately after going top for the first time, while Hamilton was the session's first spinner when he lost the rear of his Mercedes through the Descida do Lago. Button also set his best time early on, but behind him Alonso bucked the session's overall pattern when he surged into fourth at the halfway mark, just as the rain began to worsen. Red Bull meanwhile was yet to set any times, with Webber ensconced in the garage and Vettel electing to run cautious data-gathering laps on the hard slick compound. At that point times were around two seconds per lap slower than the early running and the top order looked settled, but the session swung 20 minutes from the end when the rain abated. Vettel and Webber were the chief movers: the Australian, competing in his final grand prix, slotted into fifth on his second run, but was then demoted when Vettel moved into third 10 minutes from the flag. McLaren's departing Sergio Perez was seventh ahead of Toro Rosso's 2014 signing Daniil Kvyat, standing in for Daniel Ricciardo for first practice. Lotus's Heikki Kovalainen and Sauber's in-the-spotlight Nico Hulkenberg were next up in ninth and 10th respectively. Felipe Massa ended the first session of his Ferrari swansong in 11th, fractions ahead of Esteban Gutierrez and Romain Grosjean. The conditions meant none of the teams were able to sample Pirelli's 2014 prototype slick tyre, with Vettel's data runs on the hard compound the only slick running of the session.

Re: Formula 1 General Chat & Discussion

Brazilian Grand Prix – Interlagos circuit – Autodromo José Carlos Pace (San Paolo)
(19th round of the 2013 Formula 1 World Championship) Last race of the year.
Interlagos is a good track with a long history. The current layout dates back to 1990, before the track was much longer and more twisty. Senna's victory in 1991 is still in the memory of his fans. I often look at the video of the last lap of that race. It was his first victory in Brazil. Simply unforgettable and to remember Ayrton, at Interlagos there is a downhill chicane known as the “S” do Senna. The circuit follows the ups and downs of hilly ground and there are some really interesting corners as Ferradura, Mergulho and Juncao. The last sector is very fast with 2 high-speed corners (Subida dos Boxes and Arquibancadas). The autodromo Carlos Pace requires a medium to high downforce setup. Pirelli will bring hard compound(orange stripe) and medium compound (white stripe). There will be two DRS zones on the start finish straight and on the straight(Reta Oposta) between turn n. 3(Curva do Sol) and turn n. 4(Descida do Lago).

In this season, Vettel has already won 12 Gran Prix of which the last eight in a row, one more than Schumacher in 2004. Michael still has the record of 13 Grand Prix victories in one year, but in Brazil, Vettel can achieve also this record. Yet the first part of the season seemed balanced. After five races Vettel and Alonso had both won two races. But between Spanish GP and Monaco GP, things change. There's the famous secret test of the Mercedes, then Hamilton and Rosberg were able to win three races (Monaco, Silverstone and Budapest). However, an important event happens in July. Following the problems at Silverstone, Pirelli reverts to tyres built around Kevlar belts as in 2012. A good news for Red Bull, much less for Ferrari, that is no longer competitive. After the summer break at Spa and Monza, Vettel wins both races. It is now clear that the world championship is won, and Sebastian in the following races, is virtually unbeatable. He and his Red Bull have no rivals.

Brazilian Grand Prix – Interlagos(between lakes): winners, podium and pole position(last 3 editions)
Podium 2010: Vettel(Red Bull) – 2° Webber and 3° Alonso. Fastest lap: Hamilton – pole position : Hulkenberg 1'14''470
Podium 2011: Webber(Red Bull) – 2° Vettel and 3° Button. Fastest lap: Webber – pole position : Vettel 1'11''918
Podium 2012: Button (McLaren) – 2° Alonso and 3° Massa. Fastest lap: Hamilton – pole position : Hamilton 1'12''458

This will be the last grand prix for the v8 aspirated engines

Pole : Sebastian Vettel
Team Battle : Paul di Resta > Adrian Sutil
Grid Position Charles Pic : 21st place

Vettel beats Webber to US Grand Prix pole :
Guess who qualified third for the United States Grand Prix? It was easy to predict that Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber would grid first and second, but not so easy to guess who would start third. It ended up being Romain Grosjean who was third fastest in his Lotus ahead of a fleet Nico Hulkenberg in the Sauber.
Qualifying 1 :
The ambient air temperature at the start of the 60-minute session was 81 degrees Fahrenheit (27 degrees Celsius), and the track temperature was 86 degrees Fahrenheit (30 degrees Celsius.) Max Chilton got things going in his Marussia. He was first on the track and first to set a time with a 1:47.022. 4 minutes into the session, Nico Hulkenberg turned a 1:43.698. But many drivers were setting times now, and Valtteri Bottas shot to the top after posting a 1:39.825 in his Williams. 6 minutes into the session, Fernando Alonso (Ferrari) beat that with a 1:39.658. The Red Bull drivers Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber remained in the pits. 8 minutes into the session, Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) went to the top with a 1:39.153. Moments later Bottas beat that with a 1:38.773 . 10 minutes into the session, Romain Grosjean turned a 1:38.676 in his Lotus. With 8 minutes remaining in the session, Webber headed out. With 7 minutes remaining in the session, Vettel joined him. The top teams all had their drivers on the hard compound Pirellis. With 5 minutes remaining in the session, Webber clocked a 1:38.493 to take over first place. Every driver except Grosjean was on the track at this time. Vettel crossed the line with a time of 1:38.516. Some of the drivers were now on the medium compound including Jean-Eric Vergne who moved into sixth with a time of 1:38.88 in his Toro Rosso. Back at the front, Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) was now fastest with a 1:37.959 on the medium tires with 2 minutes remaining in the session. Esteban Gutierrez was second after turning a 1:38.082 in his Sauber. In the final seconds Bottas claimed the top spot with a 1:37.821. Hamilton, Gutierrez, Webber, Hulkenberg, Sergio Perez (McLaren), Heikki Kovalainen (Lotus), Vettel, Jenson Button (McLaren) and Grosjean rounded out the top 10 The six drivers eliminated at the end of Q1 were: Adrian Sutil (whose Force India stopped out on the track), Pastor Maldonado (Williams), Guido van der Garde (Caterham), Jules Bianchi, Charles Pic (Caterham) and Chilton.
Qualifying 2 :
Vergne was the first out for the 15 minute Q2. He turned a 1:38.696. Moments later his teammate Daniel Ricciardo set a 1:38.804.
But Hamilton and Bottas easily beat that with a 1:38.104 and a 1:38.140 respectively. The drivers were using the medium compound Pirellis with the white sidewalls. With 9 minutes remaining in the session, Paul di Resta moved his Force India into second place after clocking a 1:38.139. With 7 minutes remaining in the session, Vettel and Webber had yet to post a time. With 5 minutes remaining in the session, the Red Bull boys were on track while Perez grabbed second with a 1:38.116. With 4 minutes remaining in the session, Grosjean went fastest with a 1:37.523. With 3 minutes remaining in the session, Webber beat that with a 1:37.312. With 2 minutes remaining in the session, Fernando Alonso (Ferrari) grabbed second but that became third as Vettel took top honors with a 1:37.065.
Nobody went quicker in the lead group, but there were changes in the order behind them and so the top 10 at the end of Q2 were: Vettel, Webber, Alonso, Bottas, Grosjean, Hulkenberg, Hamilton, Gutierrez, Perez and Kovalainen. The six drivers eliminated at the end of Q2 were: Ricciardo, di Resta, Button, Nico Rosberg ,Felipe Massa and Vergne.

It really was no surprise as Red Bull teammates Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber topped Free Practice 3 for the United States Grand Prix. Jules Bianchi set the first time, a 1:43.098 in his Marussia. And Daniel Ricciardo set the second time, a 1:40.098 in his Toro Rosso.
12 minutes into the session, Ricciardo had lowered the best time to a 1:38.810, but then Adrian Sutil beat that with a 1:38.559 in his Force India. Re: Formula 1 General Chat & Discussion

Newsupdate :

Button hit with grid penalty for overtaking under red :
Jenson Button has been hit with a three-place grid penalty for overtaking under red flag conditions during Friday morning practice for the United States Grand Prix. The McLaren driver was found to have passed another car after the session was red-flagged because of a problem with the medical helicopter. The incident happened just 14 minutes into the delayed session and has led to the 2009 world champion being punished under Appendix H, article 2.4.4.1 of the FIA International Sporting Code. This states that when the red flag is shown "overtaking is forbidden and drivers should remember that race and service vehicles may be on the track, the circuit may be totally blocked because of an accident and weather conditions may have made the circuit undriveable at racing speed." It is the first time Button has been hit with a grid penalty in 2013.

Sebastian Vettel goes fastest in second F1 practice :
Sebastian Vettel returned to the top of the timesheets during second practice for the United States Grand Prix. The Red Bull driver posted a 1:37.305 on the Medium tyre to lead team-mate Mark Webber by just over one tenth of a second, with Mercedes duo Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton occupying third and fourth. In a pleasant contrast to the opening session, the drivers enjoyed all 90 minutes of scheduled action this afternoon. During the Hard tyre runs, Vettel quickly asserted his authority, eclipsing the pace-setting time posted by Ferrari's Fernando Alonso in FP1. As the switch to the Medium rubber arrived, Vettel maintained his advantage over the field and ultimately ended the day 0.115 seconds ahead of Webber. Mercedes drivers Rosberg and Hamilton emerged as Red Bull's closest rivals, while Heikki Kovalainen starred en route to fifth position during only his second session with the Lotus team.
Sauber's Esteban Gutiérrez and Nico Hülkenberg continued their strong start to the weekend in sixth and seventh positions, while Lotus' Romain Grosjean, penalised McLaren driver Jenson Button and the aforementioned Alonso completed the top ten. At the tail-end of the order, Charles Pic and Giedo van der Garde comfortably led the battle of the sport's newest teams. Perhaps concerningly for Marussia, Max Chilton and Jules Bianchi were 8.9 seconds and 10.6 seconds off the ultimate pace. Chilton's late final corner spin and stoppage – after his brake pedal jammed shut – was the biggest incident, with the majority of the afternoon session void of drama.
