Re: Your All Time Favourite Tunes

here's a few that aren't my normal fayre, but songs I always enjoyed - the sort that once you've listened to it, you just have to put on again.

the first is a strange one for me as to a some extent synthesised 80s music spelt the end of the great rock epoch of the late 60s & 70s...
maybe it was the sexy singer, the pert braless boobs, the breathlessness of the English version (although it sounds just as good in German) or maybe it was the armpits (couldn't find that version!) But I had the 12" and played it continuously for a while...
heard it in the supermarket yesterday and it brought back so many memories
so heres Nena with 99 Red Ballooons

and I was reminded of the second by an advert on tv - was never really into R&B but this is a classic feel-good song - maybe a bit out of season - but featuring a superb guitar solo by Eddie Isley.

Couldn't find a decent 'live' version so just sit back and listen to The Isley Brothers version of Summer Breeze

and while thinking of summer, this is a perennial favourite - reminds me of summer and makes me think about girls - which was all I did when I was younger (still is to be honest!)

so heres Mungo Jerry with In The Summertime

and another 'laid back' favourite which always makes me smile - from the soundtrack of Up in Smoke with Cheech & Chong. Not that I condone taking drugs in any way - did far too much of that myself to recommend to anyone else - look where it got me! but I love the sequence with the car - put it on full screen...
so heres Low Rider

Re: Your All Time Favourite Tunes

thanks Schubert - spot on!
I have it on mp3, cd and vinyl but was disappointed about youtube...
I put together a Morgan Preece montage and put it to the sounds of Lay Lady Lay but when I tried to post on youtube it wouldn't let me as it was 'copyright' and even when I removed all reference to the song from the title & tags, it still wouldn't accept it - so wasn't surprised when I couldn't find this!

but anyway, its a great song and although I don't live in Bobs world, it has so many parallels to my life - strange that I can find it both a happy and such a sad song... not many pieces of music can do that to you!
always good to hear it again - thanks!

Re: Your All Time Favourite Tunes

Only just discovered this thread - one side of my musical taste is great rock, but as I get older it doesn't really 'fit' me that well anymore, but the music I keep coming back to are songs that tell a story, or at least make you think, and especially if they move me...
So here's a selection of my favourites, starting with THE song of my life, Tangled Up in Blue by Bob Dylan (although I prefer the slower album version which I couldn't find on youtube - as if he's not rich enough already!)

Family Snapshot - Peter Gabriel

The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald - Gordon Lightfoot

Oh Well - Fleetwood Mac with Peter Green

Biko - Peter Gabriel

Losing My religion - REM

Don't Give Up - Peter Gabriel & Kate Bush

Re: Your All Time Favourite Tunes

Excellent choice again, Leah. Thumb up Here´s one of my favourites from the nineties:

The Return of the Space Cowboy. Smile

During their first two albums "Jamiroquai" was operated like a real band, and genius
bassist Stuart Zender had a big influence on the sound, before everything became
singer Jay Kay's personal ego-trip and most founding members left.

Fascinating video too, this one. Click picture to see it.
