My perplexity about having two buttons is that someone could misinterpret or take it personally, the thanks button is the more polite option cause we thank people for sharing their thoughts, opinions, of course videos and for taking part of the life of this forum

I cannot see any sarcasm or irony though, as I do not see the necessity to make fun of it. Sorry to say. |

So going by the overwhelming comments in favour of the two buttons Lets have a think about a change, or we could put it to a vote and then hope Admin see's the result

A "Thanks" button just gives an acknowledgement that the post was considered worth reading. Anything more could be covered in a follow-up post. |

I have made and make mistakes to press the button
for what? airplane crashes or a member is dead, etc .. hey l in this moments we must ignore this button,of course we can all answer, that is not the problem, but without the like sign. that´´s easy and costs nothing |

alex25 wrote:As much as I personally like the idea of having two separate buttons for like and thanks, I think it would add a bit of confusion for most people. I see your POV Alex but, the reason the dislike button was abolished is through it was misunderstood for what its use was for or abused. I think 2 buttons will not add to confusion but more the option of thanks just replaces what the original dislike was intended for. The dislike button was a war starter and was used to hurt members posting and was basically abused a long way from what it was intended to be. There was no confusion of how they used that and so, a basic thanks button would suffice. Basically it would just be a rewording of the dislike button I remember when the dislike button was used, we had a troll or two and due to how it was setup, the troll would have been the highest thanked person on LSTV as like and dislike both counted as a like. I think there is no confusion of how it would be used and just less chance it could be abused |

dazaman wrote:Now the point of having 2 buttons is not to add more likes/thanks but it's more about the wording and accuracy of why you pressed the button. I still see it as a likes/thanks button but, like with what i'm writing now, does this warrant a like or a thanks. I post info and really it's not like but more a thanks for sharing this info or, thanks for sharing your thoughts. A video maker/capper on the other hand would deserve a like of the content they posted. As much as I personally like the idea of having two separate buttons for like and thanks, I think it would add a bit of confusion for most people. The only simple solution I can see, would be to replace the like button with a thanks button, as already suggested by some. After all if you like a post, you are bound to want to thank the poster, while the opposite is not always true as we have seen with some recent sad events. |

Do I like it or not, that is the question, what is the right way to thank or not to praise, preferring to thank you, than to be completely ignored!(Sorry bad English,I hope that you understand what i mean)

The thanks button works much better than the like button in my opinion

This will not add to anyone getting more likes than previous but more about why we press the button on a single post. If there's an argument on the forum, I would probably press the thanks button for the person who ended it. They did a service and thanks was required but I could not like such a post. I hope I have explained it well enough to understand |

dazaman wrote:The like button is a positive view but with no other options! We tried the like and dislike buttons and maybe one of the first to try these options I was not a fan!!!!!!!!!! The dislike was just as rigid as the like. I think if Admin could add just a plain old thanks button too, this would help with lets say, news items you're glad you read but not happy with what it actually was. This would add to the members like count but as a thank you for sharing the sad information (which quite rightly we have had a lot of recently as pointed out ) the “like” button is sometimes “the only way members recognize you saw something without writing or sharing something.Which means we’ll click it even when we don’t like something as a nod of recognition. So, instead of Like it we could rename it in "I read it". Or if possible, that you can lock/unlock the like button before you posting something. So if you don´t want that people can push the like button, it don´t appear. |

Well, just speaking for me. I also sometimes find me being in trouble with myself for the 'Like' button. For me a 'Thank you' button would make more sense as many times you either do not agree with the contents or the writer, but still may appreciate the initiative being worth a thanks.
Which way ever. If changing from a 'Like' to a 'Thanks' button or have both it will not change that many comments are liked only because of the writer and not the contents. Or vice versa, The author being the exact reason not to hit 'Like'. Am not free of that attitude myself, even when trying to be as reasonable as possible. You cannot like everything, Thanks god tastes are different, otherwise the world would be very poor. But as you cannot like everything you may still want to thank someone, as mentioned above, for his contribution. This possibility is presently not given. Would 2 buttons help with that ? I do not think so, as people are already too lazy to hit only one button. What will they do when confronted with 2 ? Or even having to invest time to think which button to hit. Either they klick none or both which basically makes a second button void. Ask me ? I'd prefer one button to say thanks rather then like. Saying thanks is polite and honors the writer and/or the comment. A 'Like' contains and conveys an emotion towards the author which I believe prevents many people from klicking it. If you find this comment erratic, please bear with me and accept my apologies. It is 3 in the morning and I did not sleep since 21 hours. My 2 cents. P.S.: Shouldn't all this be moved to the 'Thanks/Like Button Issues' thread? Believe it is not off topic, and worth the discussion. |
